I've heard rumors that it is possible to smoke the competition upwards of 20 seconds in things like a civic or a fit. I wanted to see it for myself, and was wondering just how many people here have done it, and if there is anything I should know before trying.

Hey, I noticed your post and to answer you question, I highly doubt that. Although there are some considerations to take in effect. Are you talking about the S Class event or just a quick race on beginner difficulty? I have been playing Gran Turismo since the very first one came out on PSONE and I have a lot of driving hours, I have a DGFT racing wheel and the lowest powered car I could do it in was a Subaru BRZ GT300. I was fully tuned at 424hp and 539pp, I was pulling 8 and a half minute laps but when I had to pit is what killed my positioning because I couldn't keep up with the Xanavi Nismo and the others I came in third place. That car hugs the track like crazy if you know how to drive, I did win it once and I was by 10 secs. So to answer your question, I highly doubt it with the Honda Fit as it is top heavy and low powered on inclines. I suppose if you had a good, lightweight Civic that had a awesome tune it may be possible but I wouldnt count on it.

I remember someone posted a while ago they beat the 24 Minutes of Nurburgring in a Civic, Fit, Prius, classic Mini, among other cars.

I don't know about all that seems kinda far fetched if you ask me considering the top speed and accelerations of the cars listed. They may accelerate quickly but not as quick as the GT300 all the way up to GT500 classes. Even with a fully tuned Civic your looking atleast a 9 minute lap with a clean run compared to Xanai Nismo which is in the race running an 8 minute or so, plus that's almost a 400hp difference for both fully tuned. A Xanavi Nismo alone is 812hp at 650pp.

It's doable with many cars. I just finished first in a Honda Odyssey the second time tonight with more than 25 seconds ahead of the BMW McLaren F1 GTR.

Mind you it is a stripped out turbocharged minivan with full racing suspension. It probably wouldn't be a comfortable daily driver in real life.

Point well taken guys, thanks for the pictures keep in mind this is a game, I'm just stating in real life I don't see this possible as it has been proved in GT6.

That just shows how bad gran turismo is!!!!:ill:

I did it last night in a 515pp civic type R EK '97. It is very possible to have much more than a 20 second gap, if you don' t crash like I did (several times).

Do you guys use racing soft tyres? I have only done it once, in a Skyline and my race hards only got down to 9 after 2 laps before I needed fuel.

Yup. The trick here is to use racing soft tires and never pit for fuel.

The AI slow to a crawl after the first lap. They will still speed up if there's another car next to them. For example, I would be in big trouble if the top two AI cars were in proximity and racing each other.

I friend of my dads had a dodge van in the late 60's. He drove into an auto cross event and entered his van. He had stiffened the suspension and had good tires and knew how to drive. The only car that beat him that day was a race car that was towed in on a trailer.

Some of the fastest cars on Nurburgring trackdays IRL are often the locals in old golfs on slammed suspension, local knowledge and bravery counts for a lot on the 'ring!
Then I need some practice. For now, let' s take a vote on the car I use, it's between:

Ford Focus (Your pick on year and other stuff).
Mini Cooper (Again, you pick year and stuff).
Toyota Vits/Yaris.
Nissan Skyline.
Mazda Miata/Mx5/Eunos.
Other (Please Specify).

Vauxhall Tigra

Let us know how you get on Dagger, My plan is to work my way down to slower cars.
I wish the camber adjust worked right, would make tuning for RS tyres a little easier.

Challenge can anybody try to do it in a Fiat 500
If you can I  you

P.S - I would have tried if I had my gt6

I didn't get to try last night, and I'll be busy this weekend, but maybe tonight. It's between the Vauxhall and the Mini, leaning towards the Mini.
