Leaved it a while to mention it, hoping someone else would, but on the first lap on the left-hander after the chicane I got hit from behind and the driver behind me just went through me and didn't stop (note: I didn't go off completely, went sideways heavily, losing maybe 3 seconds, so not a massive ask to get someone to wait).

To be honest, I'm not sure who it was, the person I thought it was said it wasn't them. Anyone? I was 4th at the time iirc.

This complaint has come up before and like I said last time, backmarker blocking is a viable team tactic but it is appreciated if people move over.

However, with the online system as it is, with sometimes horrible lag and regular random accidents, I will alter this to a rule after consideration.

Edit:
Announcement - NEW RULE ADDED:
Drivers are expected to allow faster cars past in the situations of being lapped, it is recommended that the slower car pick their place to allow the other driver past carefully, making sure its off the racing line and in a clearly visible place. As a general rule of thumb, the exits of corners onto long straights is a good place, allowing the driver behind plenty of time to realise what you are doing. Faster drivers must keep in mind this rule, as slower cars aren't always able to instantly move over at every corner safely.

Also keep in mind that the slower driver may not always realise they are being lapped, so I also ask everyone to not allow themselves to become too frustrated with being unable to pass and also for the slower drivers to keep a good track of their position and the position of the leading drivers.

Ta, that's a good rule. Please tell me it's dry at Istanbul this week Ardius?

BTW I had a thought about how to decide the weather. Why not just make it correspond with the actual weather IRL? If we decide to go by one weather site and make it our official race weather, that way we can check the forecast and predict what weather it will be and practice accordingly, always knowing though that there is a chance the initial forecast will be wrong.

So for example, today I can check the weather for Istanbul on sunday, giving me a good guide of what weather to practice on, then on race day we go by what the weather was in the afternoon as our race weather. I realise this is a little complicated at first but I think if we sorted out what website to use, exactly what time to go by and what the differentiator between light rain and heavy rain is, it could be quite a fun way to do things :)

I understand if we can't really implement it at this late stage, but I think it's certainly an idea for the inaugural F1 09 world championship :sly:

Nah, thats needlessly complicated, I prefer just selecting when we have wet weather as:
1. It makes a bit easier for people to practice for it.
2. I like having some kind of ability to be annoying :P

Oh, and Istanbul will be dry.

Hmm, but, but, but :indiff:.........

I think the whole point to what I'm saying is it makes it fun having that element of uncertainty there so that rain can be genuinely unexpected and challenging. Giving people a week to practice in certain conditions, results in everyone being adept at it and it not being especially difficult to drive in, in which case all the rain does is slow the lap times down but doesn't really add much fun to proceedings. My idea is based on real life conditions and IMO makes it seem fairer and less arbitrary.

Infact, I think it would even up the field a bit more. For instance, if I spend my whole time practicing in the dry and then it rains, I'm as unprepared as the next person and could easily be beaten by drivers who aren't usually quicker than me.

Besides I don't see this as being complicated at all. Instead of where you state the weather, give this link for the weather forecast: (this is just an example) http://www.weather-forecast.com/locations/Suzuka/forecasts/latest

You could put in brackets what the forecast is, in this case as you can see it would be dry but also you can see the website simply states light and heavy rain for other days. Then you would need to update it come race day as to what the actual weather turns out to be.

I'd like to know what others think of this suggestion 💡

This idea would only work if all drivers are very familiar with the circuits on all conditions (a Pro Series). If I become a Pro-driver, I would love to set up the race to variable conditions. I very interesting when goes from dry to wet, so you have to change tires.

But the problem is that last time I just announced the weather late, many drivers were completely off pace because they simply hadn't anticipated it. Now, I realise this is part of racing but here we're trying to have fun, not frustrate.
Wet weather still has an effect, even if people practice for it, mistakes are easier to make (especially with these horrible default setups) and the spray and extra concentration still play parts.

As for people practicing only one condition - if I made the weather random wouldn't the logical thing be for people to practice all kinds of conditions? The people that do practice seriously wouldn't be affected and those that don't would just be worse off.

I heard it's supposed to rain @ Monza in a few weeks. ;)

Nice:sly:

Here's an idea(assuming the game will allow you to do this): What about varying weather? That could throw a curveball into the race.

Varying? Thats impossible online in this game. Or at least I thought it was??

Haven't you noticed the game doesn't do that? Pity because it would be amazing if it all of a sudden started raining. Unfortunately for online racing it's either sunny, light rain or heavy rain.

I think its there, unless I'm losing my mind.

I'm 99% adamant it isn't.

Also - for UK people a heads-up:
BBC have put up the full highlights shows for the 1994 and 1986 Australian Grand Prix on red button and on their website!! I don't think I need to tell you all to watch them now! Off topic, but its so awesome it needed to be said here!

Boo, we get 30 seconds of coverage during the speed report here and 80 hours of asscar. :yuck:

Well if you can get around the BBC's formidable region detectors, you can watch it on their website, but I don't know how much effort that takes.

There's always youtube, apparently obssessed motorsports fans are in droves there:crazy:

If you need to learn the circuit to be competitive takes a lot of time practicing. If you through unexpected rain in addition to learning the circuit, you are reducing the number of happy drivers on the grid and increasing the number of crashes. We all race for fun, but I would like to believe that I'm not competing just to fill the grid. I can practice an average of 4-5 days a week (roughly 30 laps a day :yuck:). This is just enough to battle for 4th or 5th (I shouldn't expect a better finish)

I'm racing my first championship, if there would be a next one, I will be able to race under any condition. But we all know that that won't be possible.

I would like to know the weather in advance to practice, so I can fight for 4th or 5th happily :)

Well I've been meaning to switch to Manual gears and I finally dusted off my v*gina and took the leap. A few turns on istanbul the auto is useless, especially T8. Went from High 1:29s to High 1:28s right away. Best in the 20 laps I just ran was 1:28.095. Looks like I have about second to pick up as well. I'll be happy with mid 1:27s I think.

Right you are. What you have online that may be confusing is "random" on the weather which randomly picks the weather for that race but not randomly changes it during the race.

I agree. "SPEED" should change their name to "NASCAR" with the amount of coverage they give it. Before FOX bought the channel we could see racing from all over the world. Over the last few years they covered less and cut down most of it to high light shows and then I noticed this past winter we had nothing. No V8 Supercars :grumpy: no DTM :grumpy: no British Touring series :grumpy: Just the same old 🤬 they show all year long :banghead:
I think if I win the lottery I'll start a new station and call it Motor Racing Television (MRTV) for all us racing addicts :sly:

If naybody is interested I'll be in R130 practicing Istanbul :scared:

Just got through with a few runs averaging in the mid 1:28's :) ran a couple of sub 1:28's :D with a fastest lap of 1:26.629 :sly: .............. aided heavily by the draft of ZERODUCK

Or someone could buy up Speed from Fox, I would be willing to do that if I have the amount of money to do so.

Ok, Ok ,

This seems so much fun , can someone tell me how I can enter, Im sure I wont be bad at all ,,
maybe itll make me a better driver too.

BR Alireza

Hey Alireza, you have a PAL version of the game don't you? There aren't actually any seats left unless you fill in for GT4genius while he's away, but I think thats only for the next two races.

Well, we have seats to fill, so all is left is to turn up on the day 👍 I'll PM you the race details (password, etc) here on the Sunday. And for now I think you can fill in for GT4 Genius.

I know its a long way off yet, but will there be a place available for me to race in China on Easter Sunday?

Until this race at least anyway, sorry I missed this Genius, of course you can come back to drive at China 👍

I just noticed both drivers championships are separated by 1 point thats crazy , what are the odds of that looooooool QUACK QUACK

Indeed, its becoming quite the championship(s)!! And might I add, with a points system and not a medals system (Bernie take note please).

I think we have potential for both to go down to the last race, the constructors can easily change too.
