I just completed Grand Valley 300km tonight.
I used the Gran Turismo 350Z RS that I won from something. Fun car. The only mods were Racing Hard tires and suspension so I could put a little more camber up front. I drove from the cockpit view the entire race -- I miss my Z.
Total time was 2:11:10.604, fastest lap around a 2:04.3xx. Pitted twice (laps 21 and 42).
Out of curiosity I checked my car's HP before the race (did the oil change) and it was 395 HP. After the race, which showed as 183.5 miles, it was down to 377 HP. Did another oil change and it was back up to 395. Apparently oil changes every 150-200 miles is a must (at least after Endurance races).
Same car and also did it yesterdat at night!
Nissan 350Z Stock (no tune at all) and Sport Hard tyres.
I was racing against other 350Z and basically Lancers (some Celicas and Accords also)
ABS=0 (F.3/R.1) on the first 12 laps but I had to change to ABS=1 as I was spinning sometimes, thus losing a lot of time, at lap 18 I was 1:15 behind the leader and I started panic, hence I focus 100% and after pit on lap 21 for fresh tyres (sports hard again) I was lapping much faster, time after at lap 43 I pitted again for another set of tyres and more fuel. At that time the leader also pitted and then I regained the lead.
Interestingly though was to check how before lap 40 I had difficult to catch up the leader but once I was first after my second pit stop it was easy to build up a good lead, at that time I did not wan to risk anything, but is it possible the former leader could fade away mentally after losing the lead?
All in all I was enjoying the race a lot (somekind of a sesonal event after my spins, I had to come back from last to first), all the time focus, I mean never bored, at all.
Fastest lap 2:09.XXX, average lap times 2:14.XXX for a total of 2h 18 minutes more or less and a lead of 20 seconds.
My 5 last laps were done with ABS=0 and drifting a bit.
I chose this car basically for its engine sound and cocpickt view, handling is also good.
This race could be harder for sure with another car but if you try the whole race with ABS=0 your braking distance is higher (in order to not spin). As I said I couldn´t hold ABS=0 the whole race is so demanding...
The difference on lap times are so noticable with old and new tyres that it is very important when to decide to pit.
I played a bit with brake bias and the tyre wear was also noticable, if you notice that your front tyres are going off then set brake bias to the rear and viceversa.
The only thing I did not like is how much the field spreads over, that is, all cars across the circuit and actually not close racing. And of course there is always that car which is faster than the others by far, in my race a Lancer GSR-4.
Ah something I did not notice before this endurance race, the lapped cars move to the right or makes your life easy! Well actually I think we do not need this kindness but it is a feature that gives inmersion to the race.
Cheers
