350PP Autumn Ring Quick Match (normal car, comfort soft)

Seems like the lap times you can do may be affected by other cars in the QM - tonight there was a Japanese racer in a Prius, and he won every race. He was running 4.55 race times, and I couldn't get below 4.57 (he passed me every race like I was standing still) - as soon as he left the room I won the next race in 4.51.......

The event settings say "Boost: Weak". This seems to remove grip from the leading car(s). Might reduce power slightly as well.

If two drivers are driving fast and clean at the front, it seems the effect is reduced or switched off.

I think it works a bit like an extended slipstream. If you are more than 1 second behind the leader, the leader is given reduced grip and power. When you get within 1 second, the effect wears off by the next lap or sector. (Not quite sure which.) The further behind you are, the bigger the effect.

That's why best lap times are usually much slower in the Quick Match than you will achieve in Arcade Mode Time Trial. Remember to give your tune extra stability because of the grip loss the boost system will create when you get the lead!

Autumn Ring Demands Classic Sports Coupés!
Saw this classic car being used to good effect by a couple of drivers yesterday. Looked very tail-happy so I decided to try it for a challenge. Found a 'grip tune' which made the car very tight, hard to turn. Went from there to create something nicely balanced.

Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 Duetto '66
Original tune by feydrautha! Small changes for agility and low power.

No rear wing! Does not need it and that tail is a defining feature of its beauty!

This tune is balanced for elegant and agile driving instead of stop-and-start qualifying laps. Higher power and higher ballast might be faster but much harder to drive, because the boost system takes away your grip.

I tried one of the old Fiat 500 models because I saw one getting over-run a few days ago. Fun car but a bit slow! If you have average drivers without GT Planet tunes, you can get 2nd.

Boost wears off when you get within a certain distance. Not lap or sector, as far as I can tell. Been in online lobbies and it never seems to be by sector or lap, just proximity.

Just confirmed the boost does 'boost' your car if you are a long, long way behind. Did a 1:34.2 lap using my Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 Duetto '66 a couple of races ago!

(After being rammed by USA and AUS drivers who got no penalties. Driving like bulldozers. Sort it out, Polyphony. This is worse than GTA5.)

Alpine A310 1600VE '73 was the class of the field, beating a quartet of Elise '11 and a 111R! Excellent driving from @choroQ_supreme from Japan. Wish I could find the tune they used. Similar pace to the GSX-R/4.

It was ChoroQ that kept beating me in his Prius - way faster than anybody else, he must have a whole raft of great tunes!

And another thought, I wonder whether the boost is what makes you fast sometimes when you're in one of those buggy QMs where it shows you as a lap behind even when you've won? Maybe during the race the system thinks that you're a lap behind, even though you may be in the lead, and gives you a boost accordingly?

I've been having a blast running my '11 Elise in the 350PP QM's. I can usually run a sub 5:00.xxx race with a best of race time of 4:52.xxx. My lap time are consistently high 1:34's to low 1:35's. Unfortunately, there are a lot of really bad drivers out there who constantly try ramming into other racers ruining good races.

I've seen a couple of French and Spanish racers who can run a sub 4:49.xxx races. Incredibly fast and smooth drivers but next to impossible to keep up with. I'm usually able to run my fastest races following someone else.

Yeah, I've seen the boost when running at the back.

My QM lap record is a 1:32.851 achieved on the second lap while running in 10th place after being punted on lap # 1.:irked:

Still wasn't fast enough to catch any leaders:(, but I did manage to recover enough to finish 4th:)

Good fun!

I've been loving this event so far 👍 I wish PD had events like this at 400, 450, 500 & 550 all as well, all the time!

The Elise's are a little frustrating...but it's satisfying to beat them with a "slow" car :)

Cars I've had a lot of fun with:
-Bluebird 510
-MX5 '89
-CRZ
-2000GT
-Mazda Demio (think thats the one...small little FF premium Mazda)
-S14 Q's
-the old old BMW convertible thing

Some tips:
-learn the multiple lines through T1. Utilize the camber of the corner to find extra grip off the inside line, and use it to get good exit speed into T2.

-learn how much corner cutting you can get away with through the S-curves. You can save a lot of time by hammering the curbs through turns 3, 4, & 5.

-getting a good exit out of the second fownhill hairpin is key. Brake/lift early to make sure you're one the right line, then go full throttle through the apex.

-the corner after pit entry is very important too. Use the "slow in fast out" technique here as well, and keep it floored all the way to turn 1.

Lastly, in these under powered cars, try to make your steering inputs as smooth as possible. Jerky movements cause the front tires to push and scrub speed...which can lead to a few km/h difference at the end of a straight. These cars are all about maintaining momentum.

I've taken a couple of days away from this QM to see if things have calmed down-yeah right
Done and done with this-even in what seems like a clean room,it soon goes to 🤬 as soon as you dare to overtake,or even if you are ahead at the start, those that drive clean when in front soon turn into ramming/barging morons.
Quick match BATTLE-at least PD got that right.

This QM is good fun, even with bugs and all. Here is a quick tune for an unlikely car.:)

This car gave a few of the Elises a good fright. It's more competitive than you would think.

Had a blast last night running this in my matte pink Scion Xb. I managed to run a few mid 1:38s with it and was getting a lot of 2nd place finishes even starting at the back of a pack of 14. I will post the tune if anyone wants it.

THe last couple nights a Brit has been using a GSXR4, so we can go back to complaining about that car rather than the Elise I suppose. He must of had a worn out car needing an oil change badly to make PP. proud of himself I'm sure.
My best lap is a 1:27.7 in warm up, best race lap is 1:33.xx. Best total is 4:53.0xx.
This is a fun one, with the usual ton of bugs.

Still been lucky enough not to have come up against a GSXR4, but did see a very well driven (or well tuned) VW Sambabus tonight - he embarrassed a few other cars by finishing second a couple of times, in an average of 5.01........

It is a fun QM if you can avoid all of the drivers trying to ram you off (why do they honk their horn when they get a penalty for ramming you?). I tried to have a nice steady evening, by allowing faster cars past, and overtaking only when I could do so without a touch. I'm still amazed at how the speeds vary from QM to QM though - first one tonight I couldn't get below 4.55, the second one I won 2 on the trot at 4.51, the next one nobody won a race at less than 5.00, and the last one I was running 4.55s again! Same car, same tune, same lines etc.

I did just manage a new personal best of 4:52.xxx, also had quite a few good races, some I won, some I didn't. But a lot of clean racing.
I will add that a little rubbing or taps are part of real racing, I don't mind those. It's the ones who use you to turn, or you feel turning into your rear bumper to try and spin you that Get on my nerves. Sometimes I've had fast guys do it. Really odd, because it means the racing doesn't matter to them, just being annoying is their entertainment. Like the ones who drive backwards during warm up? Or during a race? lol

I built an Alpine A310 and did well with it. Best of a 5:00.1xx. That was after some SERIOUS tuning to get it driveable. Looks cool with paint and wheels, but no where near my two Elise's corner speed. It just slides too much if you don't slow WAY down. Fun though...until two guys spun me out by leaning on my bumper in corners, which is easy with this car. So I switched to the Elise, found them upon re entry and they bailed after one race.

I also just tried a Vauxhall VX220 and it was the best non Elise car for me so far. I ran a 4:56.2xx with it and beat a field of 7 Elise's and a few other cars. It also required major tuning and weight balancing to get it hooked up. But it slid much less mid corner than the alpine did. I'll post the set ups if anyone is interested, lmk.

It's strange that the VX220 is so difficult to set up, given that it us only a rebodied Elise - wasn't as popular in real life as Vauxhall thought it would be, most buyers preferred the Elise (greater street cred, apart from anything else).

To those teasing us with the possibility of tunes for less used cars...

...do it! Do it now!

(Pretty please.)

Haha.

Here is my VX220 setup:

It was a bit loose just now. Had to raise the front to 80 and shift the ballast forward to -14. Helped reduce the over rotation on entrance it had suddenly.

It would appear the GSX-R4 illness is spreading it seems to have reached New Zealand now. Just a little over a week since it started in Brazil. If they would just flag it as a tuner it would render it pretty much harmless, but that might take a minute or three.

What I have decided to do, is anytime a GSXR signs in, I'll sign out. If enough of us do it, they'll be driving around by themselves with no one to race.

Well, if that's the same NZ fellow I was up against an hour or so ago, either he can't tune or can't drive. I beat him every time in my MX 5, as did a couple of Elises.

I am shamelessly using my GSX-R/4. I am after the credits.
I have noticed my winning rate is slightly down compared to my Elise. From 90ish% to 5-60%.
Could be because of all the hate it gets from fellow racers... Wrecking the Suzuki seems to be much fun for many people. I recently experienced some guys in Elises that would wait until you almost lap them, just to completely mess your race and use the huge boost they get from being so far behind to prevent you from winning. Great fun.
Now, I have tried to go back to normal cars and I can't drive them at all anymore. Even the Elise.

Try the Honda Civic Type-R (EP, EU) '01.
By far the best FF-car I tried in i this QM. Late last night i ran a sub 1.36.xx and a total time around 5.05. Had some close races with the Elises.

Now, I am an average driver and a lousy tuner. I took a Toyota Demio-tune (posted earlier in this thread), applied it on the Honda and played around with it. So theres definitely room for improvement.

That come from behind boost is strong with a fast field. I was using a Citroen C3 last night. On a good day hitting all of the apexes perfectly, I can get high 1:36 lap times. I found myself up against a GSX-R and a couple Elises. After a few races I was in the mid 1:35's and hit a 1:34.9xx The next race I got my fastest lap ever, at 1:33.417, total race time was 4:57 something. 1:33.417 in a C3.......and its NOT my driving.

So, I've been running a modern Abarth 500 detuned here, and have had wildly-variable results. I'm sure this "boost" concept has something to do with it. In testing solo, outside of the event, I was running consistent 1:38's and 1:39's, and on the field I was able to go just a bit faster.

I found the car was quick enough to keep up with almost all of the Elises except for the very fastest ones, and detuned GSX-R's, but unfortunately I had the TCS turned up without knowing it. After turning it off the car is definitely a bit quicker, so tonight I'll try again and see if I can squeeze out a first place finish or three.
