Making headlight glass to look convincing is a pain in the a**, and so is working with the node editor
I would make a basic circle and then add a bump map. It would be much easier than to try to model every detail of the glass.
Thanks, however that is similar what I've done so far. I've made the headlight bezels as in the pic with the chrome material. View attachment 420876
In front of those comes the lens, indeed a basic circle but with added thickness (I didn't use the solidify modifier, just extruded the faces), basically I followed a bit of this tutorial (http://www.dmmultimedia.com/3dtips_04d.htm).

So I finally managed to add the normal map but only to the inner faces of the lens, because it is advised above in the linked tutorial and the results were better that when the normal map is applied on the front faces. However it still looks bad, mostly due to materials I think.

Lens material is a mix shader (glass and diffuse). At first the glass looked right with a mix of glass and transparent shader but for the normal map I followed this tutorial (http://www.youtube,com/watch?v=Cb4U_WFln-w), and it seems you have to have a diffuse shader in the mix and yet when I add that it looks worse. At this point I guess bump map and a normal map aren't the same thing.
^ Well I stole your node setup and now it looks closer. I noticed my normal map gets mirrored on both sides of the lens so it still looks off but when i figure that out it should look ok. Thanks for the help View attachment 420990
For fun, I tried to create my own stock car for "NASCAR Racing 2003 Season." This is NOT the car I use in the game, but it was one I created for fun. The figure expressed here is that of Pusheen the Cat. The #18 relates to the calendar day Pusheen was born (February 18). The image is from one of my Facebook albums. I tried to find as many different pictures of Pusheen and her silly/cute ways to adorn this Toyota Camry. Speaking of the Camry, this is a livery I created for the NASCAR Generation 6 mod. Take a look:
I rarely do fan-made material, so even making something fan-made is new to me. Thanks for reading and viewing!
Bonus points if you know what the modelled object is
My grandma's telescope?
I don't know what your grandma's telescope looks like, so I can't say you're wrong
Anyway, it's the top of a bassoon.
"Your grandma's bassoon"?
j/k Anyhow, the model is looking great; really digging the fine gold text. Is the wood texture going to receive a deeper looking brown? I think it will help give it a richer colour.
I'm currently working on a 488; as you can see the model is still being constructed.

Question, I'm searching for a stand alone or pluging for CFD Simulation (wiki for people who doesn't know what CFD means) on a car. I have Sketchup 8 and Rhino 4 on the computer installed. Does anyone know what's the best and easy way/programm to learn a CFD programm ?
It is because I want to know what I could do to make additional parts on a small combo-transport vehicle like a Renault Kangoo for a better fuel -/- mileage efficiency.
This s the free model I want to use for some tests :
