Luv2drive I'm glad you enjoyed the car and that it suited your driving style. I've always felt my tunes were more suited to the average GT5'er than the real pro's because I abhor oversteer in my own driving preference so everything I touch ends up as neutral and balanced as I can get it, which usually suits the vast majority of people but ends up a little sluggish for the top dogs. Glad you enjoyed it and it's comments and reviews like this and others, that make the time and effort worthwhile.

Johnnypenso you bring up an interesting point in "sluggish for the top dogs". If I'm reading between the lines correctly I think what you're saying is that the cars that have the extra oversteer in doing so make them faster for someone skilled enough to handle them.

I'm definitely interested in being educated on some of these things and what it will take for me to be able to handle the oversteer, get my lap times down and get closer to that upper echelon. One thing I started to do a better job on during all of this testing is not go to fast into the corners. The only issue is finding the balance to not be too slow and conservative

Of course it just takes practice but I'd be interested in knowing some fundamentals and/or tricks that would help move to the next level

Looking forward to the next round!

That's almost exactly what he's saying. Generally speaking, "fast" drivers tend towards looser cars. Not sideways-everywhere-no-matter-what-you-do, just with more of a tendency to oversteer.

And then they push them until they stop turning.

Finding out how fast you can take a corner is practice and not too much of anything else.

The best advice I've ever heard is "if you have to countersteer, you're sliding too much", and "don't hit the gas until you KNOW you won't have to lift back off". The latter is something I've not fully grasped yet myself (usually due to not being on the right line when I get back on the throttle or due to peaky power delivery) but the few times I've concentrated on it, my lap times fall fairly dramatically.

Absolutely impossible for me to make the Round 2 deadline.

Chances are I won't even be near a PS3 until after it, much less near a working one... So unless someone wants to spit feedback at me so I can do a blind tune... I'm out.

Eh…Praiano? Roj? Or has he disappeared off into the world of Skyrim?

Oh, and one thing, are we allowed to use the same car? Or do we have to cobble something up from scratch?

Top 10 finish, nice. Glad and sad to see that I'm only a second or two behind you. I dare say with a few more laps, you'd have been into the 8:25-26s ;)

I have definitely improved since I started this shootout, although I certainly still have a long way to go to get into the same league with drivers here like mike_gt3, CyKosis73, and Praiano.

I really loved this car as well. It was quite a surprise having not driven it before. Great handling. Very nimble and quick

Glad this event has improved your enjoyment of the game, that's what it's all about :) Also glad you enjoyed the car and managed to effectively get me through to the next round (along with some able assistance from Golden Goldian). If I'm brutally honest, I was hoping for someone like you to be testing. Whilst it's nice of you to count me in with the faster drivers, I don't belong there. I can drive my own car very quickly, but I can't match the pace of CSLACR or Praiano, in any of the other submissions (much less the alien-space-demon that is known only as 'Mike'). I too have primarily driven FWD cars my whole life, and as such am much more comfortable driving them than I am RWD. It takes someone like you (and me) to place a FWD car as high as you have. Thank you kindly.

In the meantime, once I've picked my chin up off the floor, I really ought to be sorting something out for the next round. Thanks to all the testers from Round 1, it must have been a marathon for you all...

With all the settings you have at RKM motorsports you could build something with them.

If you have no way of getting to a PS3, I will help you out. Just tell me which car you want.

I've not disappeared into Skyrim, I've just been playing more Skyrim than GT5 because there's nothing to do on GT5 until the new seasonals come up. :P

Eh, good point. I've been pretty much static in GT5 as well. Get on, pick car, change car after 5 minutes of sitting around, have idea, lose idea, change car, get bored, bug Mafs, off.

Haha i do the same pretty much hahaha

Yea…They really didn't give A-spec enough thought…I just get on, mess with the odd spring rate figure and then change cars…

And can someone answer me, are we allowed to run the same cars as the 1st round? I don't see it written in the 2nd post.

Yes, Miss Lovato allow the to round 1 cars.

I think you're on to something there Onboy.

Meh, I might do something Roj does and do a EK9 instead to make going on GT5 something slightly more productive, but if it works, then it works. Shame that means I'd have an entry by effectively spending 2 minutes buying parts and balancing the ballast, hardly worthy of being in the 2nd round, but hey…

I'll try and place my Merc on share for you to check out Onboy as a possible option. Just a very rough tune so you'd have to actually figure out what to do with it to make it work if you wanna use it.:D

I've built a 420PP '98 Civic Type R, very swift, very swift indeed...

190E? Or is it what something like the epic oversteering thing that is the A Class? :D

As expected of the Civic Type R. Especially since it's the EK, which are the second best after the EPs.

Kompressor?? To heavy not enough grip for the ring !!
Hey, I'm in the top ten already, screw the laptimes now, I've got my promotion, now back to building crap cars which are mildly amusing to drive in their own crap way.

Well with Round 1 vehicles allowed...

I might just slap a supercharger on Poomplex Derkhead and call it good, so long as I can make it duck into the rules.

As for the issues with the increased power and slight lack of grip resulting from it? Or is it good enough to hold its own, even with the unintended power addition…?

I don't think it's any of your fault that the S15 isn't the fastest kid on the block here. I tested it myself (as well as had a 450PP/S3 version) and while the balance that can be achieved with it is a thing of beauty, it's not a "fast" car. It doesn't quite have the grip, and it doesn't have the go to make up for it. I personally think the RX-8 was an "easy" way out for me; it's about as glued as they get... As evidenced by how it's doing on the time boards despite having the straight line speed of a shopping trolley. I reckon at any type of tighter track it would decimate.

I was pressed for time in tuning and had never driven the Silvia before and it was one of three or four I test drove, I liked it, so I ran with it.👍 I already had a feeling from the posts that were coming up I'd be a good 5-8 seconds behind. I tested out one of the old Civics and got it a couple seconds faster, all gained on the last straight but it was not fun to drive, couldn't quite get it to get the grip in front I wanted. I looked for an RX8 I could squeeze into the regs as it's one of my favourite cars to drive on sports tires and a killer at 450pp, but my garage was lacking:grumpy:

I've since picked up a new one and tried to tune it at 450pp on SS tires and it drives beautifully, but it's almost a second slower than the best cars on a medium sized track. Still fun to drive so I'll keep it around:)

There are several guys here that are far more experienced at the 'Ring than me, I'm just getting into the 'Ring myself and like every other track, there are subtle little nuances to the surfaces, grip levels, curbs, entry angles etc. that pay off real dividends in time. Especially important are the corners that enter onto long, flat out sections, so pay special attention to them. I don't know their names but there are several of them and much time is won or lost in the exits of the corners onto these sections. An extra km/h or 2 exiting those corners pays dividends for several hundred metres or even a km or more. I was able to run 8:29-8:32 pretty consistently in the Silvia so I think I'm getting the hang of it. Practice, practice, practice.

While it's beneficial to run against your ghost for a while to see what differences can be made in cornering and exit speed, running online is a different experience altogether and my suggestion would be to run offline with a couple of compounds harder than you intend to use offline for a good comparison. It won't be perfect as I feel offline even with harder tires is more forgiving but it allows you to run against your ghost so when you are head to head and nail a particular corner or section you can see the advantage instantly and that really helps, plus you can watch replays to study your own technique and see where you can take better advantage of the track.

So who all is testing round 2?
I assume Praiano and Mike, pretty sure I'm going to (as long as I get the chance) Anyone else or no?

We need drivers top three votes for favorite car btw.
A favorite car can be your favorite because you like the looks, sound, handling, paint, whatever you like.
Which car you want to take home. ;)

1. raVer's Merc 190 E
2. Praiano's MR2 '97
3. MotorCityHami's Miata

My top 3 cars

1) Praiano63, best over all car, fast as hell and a little play in the back for some nice slides
2) Rotary Junkie, anyone got some goo-gone to unstick that rx-8?
3) Xdesperado67 just based on looks.. I am a sucker for a toyota 2000gt

Yes, Miss Lovato allow the to round 1 cars.
(hint)

:)

With an award winning smile like that..?? I'll give it a go, 10 cars is less time consuming that 29..!! :sly:

{Cy}

Not a 100% sure I will have time but I will try to find some for testing so you can add me to the list.

Looks like there will be enough time for me to test the 10 or 11 cars in round 2. 👍

I also wanted to thank everyone that drove my Mazda. Got lots of good feed back and I think I know where I can improve in my methods. Mission complete for me. :sly:👍
