I don't mind it at all. It's just another way to practice the Freedom of Speech right that we all have. If I was driving past the church, more than likely I would look over and comment about the statue. In the us we have statues such as the statue of liberty, Abraham Lincoln, etc., What about Jesus, besides being on top of catholics churchs and in paintings? If you want to call that Idolitry, you might as well dub all of the sculptures that men put thousands of hours into and the paintings Idolitry. If I were Jesus (no offense meant to any christian on this message board :nervous: :D), I'd take it as a compliment.

Ok, I can understand your point of view. However there are two things that I see wrong iwth what you said.

1) The second commandment:Exd 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:

2) Nobody knows exactly what Jesus' face looks like. At least nobody that's alive today. It's too bad too.

But as far as all the other depictions and Christ on top of Catholic chuches. Well, one of my favorite paintings is the one where Jesus is knocking on the door and the people aren't letting him in. Excellent portrayal of the gospel and it doesn't show his face.

The catholic church thing, well. I'll just leave that one alone.

We don't know what Jesus used to look like, but one thing we do know, or at least can know, is that he didn't look like the image most people have of him. He didn't look like what he's being portrayed like in any statue or movie or whatever. He's always being pictured as a white man with long brown hair. Well he was born in Nazareth, if anything he'd look like an arab. Or maybe he was black. Who knows.

His mother being pictured as a white, blonde woman is nonsense as well.

Yep yep!

If I was Jesus I don't think I'd be very happy about being continually reminded of crucifixion...

Then you don't understand the point of him going to the cross.

Another great blanket statement...

The Words of Jesus Christ:

Mar 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and [of] the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Paul speaking on the knowledge of the cross:

1Cr 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

So, why wouldn't Jesus want to be reminded of the cross again? That was the entire point of him coming here. To be the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. Whether you believe that or not is irrelevant. The point is that Jesus was born to die on the cross and be risen in three days.

No, Jesus was born to try and save mankind, allegedly. The Romans decided to crucify him not God.

Ok, so you're going to just refute the bible and what Jesus was? Cute. I gave you direct scripture to exactly why Jesus was crucified and you just deny it.

You're partially right though. But the way Jesus saved mankind was to die on the cross and shed the blood of the spotless(sinless) lamb. That is what takes away our sin.

So, he did come to save the world. Simply not be the standards that most of us would use.

It wasn't pre-ordained that he would die on the cross, that wasn't God's plan.

Why not remember him with symbols of loaves or fishes? Rather than reminding him of being nailed to a cross?

Yeah, you completely dissmissed what I posted.

Now since Jesus was the son of God, he knew the future. So he KNEW he was going to be crucified and he knew that he was going to rise again.

I'm not saying that people should have crosses all over the place. I'm saying that Jesus saved the world through the cross. I could give you a boatload of scriptures for that. Old and New testament, I'm quite sure you would dismiss them just as quickly though.

Where does it say in the Old Testament that Jesus would die on the cross?

Where does it say in the Old Testament that Jesus would die on the cross?

Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Okay, having checked several times just in case, the words Jesus, cross and crucifixion do not appear there. Not even backwards.

In fact I can't really see how you could stretch them to incorporate Jesus dieing on the cross at all.

well...jackthehat, if that isnt talking about Jesus, who is Isaiah talking about?

heck, read the whole chapter of Isaiah 53 and if that isnt talking about Jesus...

1 Corinthians 2:14, But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

it always makes me want to cry when the unsaved try to use scripture to refute biblical christianity in itself...but as that verse said, spiritually discerned...

Who knows? But Jesus was only ever documented posthumously.

And I'm sorry for making you want to cry. I'm a bad unsaved heretic, heck, why not stone me to death for having the audacity to be free-thinking...

Thanks for making ME laugh. Do you know the first prophecy of Jesus is in Genesis right after the fall?

Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou [art] cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

But you don't see that either.

Jesus is prophicied all through the old testament. If you want to say that the Bible isn't true, well whatever. But don't say that Jesus hasn't been part of the Word of God from the beginning.

Oh yes, that so clearly has to refer to Jesus Christ....

If I showed you all the times that the law(old testament) was quoted in the grace(new testament) you'd be shocked. Jesus quoted many of them himself. Even about his death. But I've showed you that and you totally dismissed it.

Isaiah 7:14, Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

and dont even try saying well why isnt Jesus called Immanuel? that thinking is legalism at its finest. Immanuel means God with us, Jesus is a transliteration of the Hebrew "Joshua," meaning "Jehovah is salvation," i.e., "is the Savior,"

just another name for Him, like the Messiah, the King of the Jews, such as there are many names for God like Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim, etc...

Everybody who brings up bible quotes has absolutly no idea about how language is working.... well...anyways believe what you want.... I don't care.... :)
