Are you about that speed, I don't even think there's anything called the Peugeot 405 in 1972, only a family hatch about 15-20 years ago. Can you show me the exact page were you saw that?

Misunderstanding on my behalf, it was the WM Peugeot that set the speed:

www.lemans.org
This road, which is for 362 days a year a public road from Le Mans to Tours, is the site of many speed records which challenge the imagination. The fastest recorded maximum speed was the 405 kph of the WM Peugeot, in the year the French manufacturer launched its new model, the Peugeot 405(1972). Older fans may also remember the 300 kph of the D-type Jaguars in the mid-50s or the 387 kph reached by the infamous Porsches in late 60s/early 7os. The Mulsanne straight has been the site of many records and unfortunately some tragedies, especially before the armco protection was increased.

Yeah and it definatley wasn't 1972 either.

What would happen if you'd place a SuperGT Supra in the GT1 category? Awesomeness?

No, epic fail. GT1 cars aren't equal to SuperGT cars: The former has slightly more power, but the latter has vastly more downforce. A slightly prepped GT1 Maserati MC12 participated in practice for SuperGT, but they pulled out since, despite the power advantage, they lost over a second in the corners.

Well, I'm just quoting lemans.org itself...

It's 1988.

I was scared to say something like that Metar, thanks for doing it for me.
I gets really annoying the amount of people who just assume:
GT1-GT500
GT2-GT300

Please refer to my post where I ever assumed a Super GT car was equal to a GT car.

Right here:

Which implies that you assumed the two classes are pretty close. Well, they are on a geologic timescale.

SuperGT have nothing to do with "European-style" GT racing: While GT cars are modified roadcars with pretty basic racing-preparations, SuperGTs are full-blown spaceframe silhouette racing cars, along the lines of DTM or Turismo Carretera.

:dunce:

I asked a question. I never made an assumption, you turned my question into an assumption. If you expect every member on GTP to have the exact same knowledge as you do on aerodynamics, well then you are expecting a little too much of GTP. I've got better things to do then studying aerodynamics and viewing race channels the whole day, so pardon me for asking a question on a fact that I don't know everything about.

The Supra won't come back to Le Mans because Toyota are planning to return in 2011 in LMP1 with a hybrid (so the rumour goes). Hopefully, GreenGT will join them :mischievous:

Back on topic: I just can't wait for tomorrow :nervous:

Unfortunately, I can't see Toyota joining any other sport other than Formula 1 because all the attention is being put in that sport. Toyota has such an enormous budget used in F1 that I couldn't imagine them starting to develop an all-new LMP car. I would've loved Toyota rather not caring about F1, and that they continued with the TS020 that was a quite revolutionary design and a dominating car pasewise., not mentioning their WRC program. If only Toyota had fixed their gearbox reliability issues, they could've easily beaten Audi's new R8 car in 2000 before they went off for Formula 1. I can only hope Toyota will return to this sport.

On the start then. I won't be able to catch the start and the firt 2-3 hours, which hasn't occured to me in 3-4 years. But I will be able to view it through the evening if the stream link provided by Earth still works tomorrow 👍

The TS020 was an amazing machine 👍 I may miss the first hour, but hopefully can watch it streaming live from my laptop from the 2nd hour onwards. I don't think the start will be of huge importance, after all, it is a 24 hour race. Things usually settle down after the first few hours, it can be a bit of a Grand Prix in the first hour :)

I saw the second half of "Truth in 24" earlier tonight! To me, Audi's going to win this race. The only thing that can defeat Audi... is Audi. Unless Audi just has the worst 24 Hours of Le Mans in history, there's no way Audi's going to lose this race. However, I am hopeful of Peugeot putting the skids on Audi's dominace of this decade.

As for the other classes, I'm really uncertain of LMP2 and LMGT1. I usually go for the Risi Competizione Ferrari, but never count out Flying Lizard.

It is 50-50 between Audi and Peugeot for the win. I'm hoping for a Lola-Aston Martin win. A car that looks that good has to win something.

It is possible for Ferrari or Toyota to make a LMP1. They are spending something like €400 million a year in F1. They will only be able to spend €100 million next year so why not spend some of the extra money on a Le Mans project? Wishful thinking I know, but possible all the same.

That's a fact I totally forgot about! 👍

Just saw the Lemans legends race!!...fantastic to see all these beautifull old cars drifting around the circuit!!!...:bowdown::bowdown:

cant wait untill the start of the main event now...lets hope it will be close and exiting fight!!...👍👍👍

spyrrari.

This is all according to wunderground.com:

Saturday is expected to be dry, but there's a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday in Le Mans, France. Pick things up around 2:00 PM local time in Le Mans...

2:00 PM Sat. - mostly cloudy
5:00 PM Sat. - mostly cloudy
8:00 PM Sat. - partly cloudy
11:00 PM Sat. - partly cloudy
2:00 AM Sun. - cloudy, 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms
5:00 AM Sun. - cloudy, 20% chance of rain
8:00 AM Sun. - clear
11:00 AM Sun. - Clear
2:00 PM Sun. - clear
5:00 PM Sun. - cloudy, 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms
(after 5:00 PM Sun - more rain, rain likely deeper into the evening and night)

If this ends up being the true forecast, then teams are going to need to be on their game. I personally dislike thunderstorms at night. Darkness and rain mean hell for racing drivers because you have darkness AND rain. It seems like the rain may affect the conclusion of this race including the halfway point. You don't win this race... you SURVIVE it.

Just waned to show up on the list of Le Mans fans.
I'm a fan of that race since I got aware of its existence which was about 20 years ago - yeah I loved racing since I was a little kid, too bad I choose finance not racing :P
Back in that time there was no Internet, streaming, even eurosport!;) so I only could here some news in public TV, later there where some fragments of the race shown, and it got better and better every year.
This year I'm trying to beat my record in time spent watching it ;) - already seen that 6h practise session and 4h of two quali sessions on justin.tv (unfortunately they cut out that channel today :( ) warm up and legends racing today - and that already makes my record :P
Can't wait for the race.

My money is on Peugeot.

There is no team from my country so I support the best looking car yet having some chances of winning - as for beauty contest the best looking cars this year are in my opinion:

1.Aston Martin #008
2.Peugeot #7
3.Audi #1

The best looking in my opinion so far was that "flying" Mercedes C something - sorry do not remember exact name - would love to own road version of that car :) Bentleys were nice too and Toyota GT1.

I have a few questions on Le Mans itself:

If I bought the most expensive ticket could I go around PIT line or only somwhere near "the paddock" ?(what ever it means exactly...)
Is it possible for amateur person go a long way from 0 to driving for example an LMP2 class :D car ? considering no money for your own car :) (yeah I know I'm naive :) )
Is there any Le Mans fact book you guys would recommend ? with results, names, cars pictures and specifications ?

As Le Mans and GT fan I couldn't miss the bout of watching an original, used in races Mazda787B car - a beauty, on the exposition in MAZDA museum in Hiroshima, Japan - there is a lot of '60-'70 beauties there but this one is the best - first time I was so close to LMP car... - I will upload pictures soon, will post info here.

Sorry for not changing my avatar for this weekend - I'm little bit lazy :D

Cheers and hope every one will get the chance of watching it now that justin.tv is down.
Fortunately there is one more page that still works sportzone.tk - I hope the traffic will not be too big :D

Sorry for such a long post :)

BDW: Sparks from under cars looked beautiful (at the end of 2nd quali session, watched from the drivers perspective) - would be nice for GT5 to support such a graphics "fireworks" :) considering there will be day time change in game - but that was only digression, I do not want to start any GT discussion here :)

BDW#2: If I were Peugeot driver that windscreen wiper would pissed me off totally :) I understand that due to windscreen shape it is impossible to make it "lie" like in normal car ?:)

Edit: Changed spelling.

They can if they pull out of F1. The only way Audi will be beaten is if more major manufacturers participate in the future IMO. Face it, Audi's dominance is partly because they have never had any true works competition. Sure they have had Dome before but they are a small operation & Panoz gave it a shot. Pescarolo & Peugeot have come the closest as everyone knows already. If more works competition participates, I think it will put more pressure on Audi.

Only 50 minutes to go :)

so, who's watching the whole race?

I can't!:ouch: I've got some hectic school assessments coming in the next week.

I have't been following it (was on dial up speed until this morning) but I am hoping for good placings for car no.s 008, 8, 16, 25, 66, 68, 80, 81, 85 and 87. Does anyone know if any of these cars are out?

This is it guys *excited*

I agree about Audi's dominance, I haven't watched the Le Mans 24 hour race live for a significant number of hours since 1999, the last year of true competition. Audi's achievement is still formidable though.

Normally a manufacturer in F1 wanting to compete at Le Mans would have to leave F1 because of the spreading out of resources between the two projects but not in this case as they have to drop down from a budget of €400 million to €100 million. That effectively mean they are going to have to make 75% of their personnel unemployed. What I'm saying is that rather than doing that, they could keep the personnel and use them to initiate a Le Mans project.
