Of course they'll say that, Don Panoz is already on their back about them "Stealing his idea" (which ironically, it wasn't).

Regarding them "Focusing on their 2015 project", this is part of their plan: Garage 56 one year (to develop their Electric powerplant) and then a full, legal 2015 LMP. Not a waste of time considering that powerplant is what they'll bring to the 2015 car.
But the electric power plant they developed won't do crap on heavier car without the aero. Why wouldn't they develop it in the proper condition of an LMP1 legal car?

The point was to do the lap. Not ultra quick but race pace. The aero was proof of another concept (the Delta concept) in order to show how efficient it's possible to make a car.

Plus, it was a fans favourite, like the deltawing. The LMP, if it wasn't winning, wouldn't get the media coverage. See reference: Rebellion racing #12 before retirement.
Well the DeltaWing I would say is more polarizing because people seem to either love or hate it. But again, it relies on being light weight and highly dependent on aero that you won't see on a street car.

Because this isn't solely for hybrid knowledge. It's to make history, and set a world record.

Street DeltaWing being planned. Lightweight is the future of sustainable motoring.

"You won't see on a street car"

UK publication EVO Magazine already drove the early prototype for the Nissan Bladeglider. Which shows that Nissan is deadly serious about doing exactly that, bringing this aero to the road.

These mechanics are all asleep! On the floor, on chairs... Next someone will fall asleep under a car or while refueling.

hsv

But doing it for history is like I already said, to do that kind of stuff publicly is for the marketing rather than focusing on applying hybrid to an LMP1. And one isn't being planned to my knowledge, somebody made an internet concept rendering, but again Don Panoz owns the rights to it and Heaven knows Panoz isn't getting a street car off the ground.
