"DW Motorsports Update"
After more then a week of silence, driver of the #72 DW Motorsports car and team owner Dylan Wieloszynski says he's ready for tonight's race. He did a lot of testing last week following a 6th place finish at Daytona which he declined to comment on. But early this morning, he appeared from his motorhome and took a walk around the track by himself. When he returned to the garage, we were able to get an exclusive interview!
The Weekly Lug Nut: So what were you doing this morning?
Dylan Wieloszynski: Oh, I was just takin' a look around the track. picturing the racing line in my head and thinking about the race tonight.
TWLN: What about tonight's race?
DW: Well, mainly about were I'm gonna finish. I haven't had any good races since I started racing in the A.R.S. I mean, my best finish was in the Indy Lights series and was a 4th place finish in the 'PRE' season race. After that I missed nearly the whole season! I was lucky to be able to come back and run I the last couple of races. But alas, they weren't very good. I always seem to finish around 7th.
TWLN: Why do you think that is? Is it the cars?
DW: No. I believe it's me. I always seem to make little mistakes during the most critical parts of the race. At Autumn Ring in the Indy Lights, I spun by myself, TWICE, during the closing laps and went from a possible podium to a 7th place finish. Whether it's going wide on a corner and opening the door for someone to overtake, or just... I don't know. It's just something I've got to work on.
TWLN: How do you think your going to preform tonight? You haven't been seen on track since Wednesday of last week. Do you think your ready?
DW: I think I'll be alright. My car is fast, and I have experience here. Hopefully, I don't make any goofy mistakes and run a clean race. The reason I've been off track for so long is because for past races, I would be on the track almost 24/7. So I thought for this race, I might mix things up a little. See what happens.
TWLN: A lot of drivers have been complaining about the cars sliding thru every corner. Have you been having the same problems?
DW: The tire compound we've been using has a HUGE amount of grip when turning in. I started out sliding thru every corner, trying not to spin out, but I think we've gotten that tune out of the car for the most part. This race is gonna be one about tire wear. They're [the tires] good for about 3-4 laps, and then they start to fall off drastically. So I think the winner is gonna be whoever can manage their tires the best.
TWLN: We've been told that you've been offered spots on other race teams, and that you've declined all of them. Is this true? And if so, why?
DW: Well I've always been a rooter for the underdogs. The teams with one driver who are under funded. It's always a spectacle when a single car team is able to win a race, so I thought if they can do it, so can I. Another reason is that when your on a team with other drivers, they share setup tips with each other. But I find it more fun to try and figure things out for myself. The one thing that I really like about the A.R.S. is that all the drivers are good sportsman and are very kind. If I have a problem that I just can't figure out, usually one of the drivers on another team will give me a tip or two.
TWLN: Well we appreciate you taking the time to us and we wish you the best of luck.
DW: No problem!
