Actual Racing Series in GT5 thread

I was just thinking -

Instead of these "make believe" series that have been in GT, how about trying this game to some real series like -

ALMS

FIA GT

WTCC

LMS

and with the appearance of the Ferrari F12007 car, F1 World Championship!

All these series run some great tracks around the world, I would love to drive a GT2 spec Ferrari F430 or BMW's new M3 GT2 car at Spa or Road America in either the ALMS or FIA GT series.

Anybody feel the same?

Great Idea, I was hoping for this thread after the US release ;) but oh well.

Since there are custom cars now, they could qualify for ALMS FIA and so forth. Someone should start this after the Euro release. It would be a lot better if GT5P will have private rooms. That way no more Time trials, Just pure racing with each other :)

I've always felt that. As much as i love a JGTC car mixing it up with DTM car or what have you, I would rather much see those cars compete against the cars that they would have in their respective series.

What I really would love to see is Le Mans with both LMP1 and 2 prototypes, as well as GT classes in the same race, and you can pick which class you would want to race in.

GT4 had both JGTC and DTM in there, just with different tracks. Deutsch Touring Car Meistershaft ring any bells? And Japan GT Championship was the JGTC. ALMS was sort of there in the form of the American series with all American cars. Le Man series was half the Extreme Hall with all your Le Mans cars like the Speed 8, R8, and Sauber C9 racing against each other. The could add a few like WRC and V8 Supercars but a few of the main series are already in there.

Edit: And don't forget the endurance hall either.

I think that in order to do this they would have to have a wider selection of all the cars in each series. But we do have enough from each to make something of it.

However, doing this and using the actual league names would require licensing from the leagues and probably all the tracks. That would require a lot.

As already pointed out though the GT series has done a decent job of somewhat recreating the different leagues with what is available.

If the GT series ever had all the associations and materials necessary to create official recreations I think it would be awesome.

I imagine they would have to be in their own separate halls and it would be cool if each race was real-life length, like ALMS has a 12 hour Sebring race, the small sprints at the various tracks, and Petit LeMans.

The problem is that every race would be considered endurance races by GT standards and I know some people already complained about some of the race series having 30 lap races and just taking too much time.

It would also be nice if you didn't have to finish the series before being able to go do other stuff.

Or maybe scale length races?
Possibly, kind of like 24 Hour LeMans did?

I would prefer realistic lengths, but then I never like doing less than 10 laps with a friend unless time dictates it be shorter.

That's too short of a list

Swamping us in pics wont be necessary Moto. This all would be nice but GT5 wont be perfect as much of you expect it will be. PD is trying to cover the broad band of motorsports. Maybe if you want one type of series to race in GT is not for you. It would take too much to focus on one league, championship, series, etc. There are games dedicated to one type of racing though like F1, GTR, WRC etc. All good games and complex to develope because of the true to life detail of the series and series content. I would rather see more of a majority of cars (factory, concept, racing, etc.) than see 20-30+ dedicated to just one series. Its not like your going to beat the championship over and over agian using each 1 of the 20+ cars so whats the point. GT is already taking a long amount of time to be completed and people still ask the impossible.

Guys,
I'ts going to end up the same as it is now with custom series. Someone picks a group of cars, tests and homologates them, and drivers pick which one they want, adjust to the proper HP/Wgt settings, and goes racing.

Now are you talking about online racing against everyone, or racing a track full of BOB AI's in single player? Single player can have SuperGT, LMS, DTM, and if it does get included, a Formula GT. That's it. The rest can be custom made.

Now what I really want to see is the ability to use your GTMode garage, including upgrades in Arcade mode events. THEN, you can create your own BTCC, WRC, SpeedGT, etc. I've tried it already with GT4, great potential, but GTMode custom races are a joke.

Historical F1. F1 has a rich history, and since the GT serie has become less of a driving simulator and more of a "history of motoing", I think the history of motorsport's top tier should be a part of it.

What about

It's all well and good to have a dozen individual racing series like that, but if they all made it into the game it would take the emphasis away from what GT is all about, which is racing any kind of car. I can see maybe one championship for each country, but having multiple historical ones in anything but Formula One would just be too much. You'd end up having more racing events like that than the actual normal-car races.

And we don't want that because that's what TOCA does.

I disagree, i think that GT has the capability to combine it all, Kaz has said before he wants GT to be a journey through the history of cars and racing is an important part.

Added to what you said, it's not like blu ray can't support the amount of data that will be required and there is no reason it would take what GT is about. GT has always had primeraly road car and well we need more. But it is good to add GT, Prototype, Touring, Rally, Off-road, Trans-Am, and other series to show GT variety.

I understand the comment about turning into Toca but Toca had some of the best racing because you typically were given a car you could only tune but not modify. For those of us that play games to be good and not destroy the competition with a much more powerful car.

With a field of 700+ cars, you can and should have it all i think. We've had it before.

I'm not saying Blu-Ray can't support the data, I'm saying that too many actual racing series will take the emphasis off the core gameplay. Look at GT4: there was only really six series that involved actual racing cars - the GTWC, SuperGT, DTM, Stars and Stripes, Real Circuit Tours and the Formula GT (not counting one-off races like enduros) - in comparison to how many "normal" race series? While theres nothing wong with your list, you've got another half-dozen racing series; most of them with sub categories, and more on the way. If the balance of normal-car race series to racing-car race series were kept the same, GT5 would be increidbly big. And while that's probably a good thing, ask yourself this: could Blu-Ray support all of that?

We could do all the popular series mentioned...

Selling over 8 million world-wide, getting licenses is NOT an issue.

I am sure Mr. Atherton would be more than happy to have the ALMS logo "For The Fans" plastered all over the game.

Why does the "Stars and Stripes" Championship can't be change to American Le Mans Series!

Its about location, not types of cars in a race.

GT5 won't be perfect for me until we can have 50 car fields at Le Mans and pick a class to run it, not everybody is interested in the fastest class there. I happen to be a much bigger fan of ACO/FIA GT1 and GT2 than LMP1/2, but I wouldn't mind driving the bright yellow DHL Porsche Spyders and beat Audi R10 just like it happens in real life though!

We need that Porsche license!

Great thread!
I think GT5 should limit the number of cars eligible for entry in each cup, especially endurance races.

the main problem in GT4 is that you can "Minolta" your way through all the endurances and cups, although you're racing against underpowered touring cars, JGTC cars or muscle cars.

If they make the whole game more like the Europe hall of GT4, it would be a much better game IMO! (i enjoyed racing all those different cars, you could really feel the difference between italian and french cars for instance)

Well now PD has ties with Ferrari, how about A1GP? Built by Ferrari..

Other than that, Simbin hold FIA GT and WTCC licenses so I dont think we would see those. But certainly LMS and ALMS. Super GT, DTM, the VLN Nurburgring stuff, Im certain we will see some Nurburgring endurance cars this time. Even stuff like the Mini Challenge would be great fun with the new bigger fields.

Why does everyone always forget Group-C racing series? Yes, that series that has been killed because with its growing popularity it endangered the Formula 1 series? That kind of cars which weighed around 1950 pounds while producing in excess of 8000 lb/s of downforce with their giant underwings. That kind of cars which rattled down the mulsanne straight with 245mp/h+. That kind of cars which lapped the Nürburgring in 6:11 sec. with an average speed of
200 km/h!
Here is a pic to remember that kind of forgotten series:
1986-porsche-962c.jpg

I would also love to see the IMSa series, IMSA prototypes ( Toyota Eagle, Jaguar XJR12 etc.), IMSA GTO ( Camaro, Ford Mustang) IMSA GTU (Toyota Celica).

And of course Pikes peak International Hillclimb, with different car categories: open wheeled, unlimited etc.

To be honest I am pretty sure 70% of our wishes here will not end up in GT5, PD seems to be MUCH more interested in their production cars compared to their last games. Maybe a few race cars thrown in but thats it.

One thing I think they need to do is have a wider variety of race cars and make them non-upgradeable. Notice I said non-upgradeable not non-adjustable. That way they could stay series true and you could have some series races. As for ALMS, Forza 2 has been proclaiming they are the "official racing game of the ALMS" and they backed it up by including a lot of the GT2 cars and tracks and sponsored the #61 Ferrari last year. But like with the other companies having the licensing to FIA this doesn't mean the licensing is exclusive. PD should really look into this a little more.

Who does the V8 Supercar licence belong to at the moment? I really want to see those cars on GT5.
IIRC, EA has the rights to make V8 Supercars videogames, but it's been years since they've made a game. I think a few GTP members from Down Under can help us out on this. But as far as I know, the cars and tracks have also been used in some of the Codemasters videogames in recent years as well.

The Ford Falcon XR8 V8 Supercar have been in GT3 and GT4, so it wouldn't surprise me if that car is seen again in GT5. Plus, I would like to see some of the other V8 Supercars and tracks - past and present - from that series as well.;)

audi s1 pikes pike, rod millen pikes pike celica, Peugeot 205 T16 Pikes Peak, Suzuki Vitara Pikes Peak, 2007 Suzuki Sport XL7 Pikes pike

i want these cars because the suzuki escudo pikes pike (dirt trail car)hasn´t got an real enemy in gt4, and these are cars from the same group. THE GROUPE B
