Wasn't the 3000GT more a competitor to the Nissan Z?

3000GT was raced against the Skyline in some racing series in Japan, I think, under Group A regulations. They made a Jackie Chan movie about it.

No - it never raced in Group A. It raced in Super Taikyu endurance racing, which is more production-based.

I think history will regard the 3000GT/GTO as the poor imitation of the more-successful, better-resolved GTR. Had all the same sort of systems as the GTR, but it managed to make for a numb, detached driving experience, and it was too heavy.

Yayyy. Less Japanese cars. Sorry for all of you that like them but I can't stand imports.

Gee, we can't tell you hate the car.

To each their own. I quite like it. If I ever get the funds to build such a project, you can bet I wouldn't hesitate.

It's just that I think shoving an EVO drivetrain into it would be a waste... it would be fun, mind you, but it wouldn't be better than an EVO.

Now, if you were to turbocharge the V6 that's already there...

Or better yet, start over with entirely new motor that was designed for high boost turbocharging. Now that Evolutions 2.0 motor is no longer relevant as the WRC cars motor, they can take it to new heights since the Germans are catching up and even exceeding the performance offered by the Japanese machinery.

I don't beleive in buying anything that wasn't made here in the U.S. But that's just me.

You know that there is Japanese cars that are made in the US ? Not all are made in Japan or other foreign countries.

It's not about making it better at all. It's about making it what it should have been in the first place.

...but then it's still FWD and still nowhere near what it used to be. (GSX model in particular)

No, he doesn't. Just like most other arrogant Americans.

Wasn't the GSX the only AWD model? It used to be a FWD sporty compact coupe and got bloated over the years.

My goal would be to build one similar to the Ralliart concept, except with an Evo X drivetrain and make my own 4th Gen GSX.

Why? Hell, why not? Yes the "realists" here like niky don't like the idea, but if you built and showed it off at local events, I bet you couldn't find one person who didn't think it was cool. It would be unique and different. Exactly what I like. ;)

Can't agree more.

Says the American.

Not all Americans are arrogant, unlike yourself.

Wouldn't matter. I still stick to Ford, GM and Chrysler. I like their designs and performance better.

My Japanese car is made in the USA, while my friend's American car is made in Mexico. And this is even before where the American car manufacturers buy their parts from all over the world to put together their cars, maybe in the States, maybe not.

And the car this thread is about, as Pupik noted, it's as Japanese as a banjo.

I'm not taking sides, or trying to start a debate. Just pointing out how whacked this "Japanese car", "American car" thing is. :D

P.S. This Japanese guy loved Berettas back in the 80's. Yes, I hear they were piece of crap.

You obviously don't realize how many things you use on a daily basis weren't made in the US. The computer/smartphone you used to type that arrogant and ignorant message, was more than likely made in China.

 Yes, I do. But 40 years ago, nothing was made in the Leadland (was China). That's why I hate any modern car by any modern manufacturer

By the way-I'm 13 and I don't have a smartphone, I have a normal cell phone which I use for calling my parents (which I have no need to since I live with them), I don't text or anything.

You do know some of you beloved Ford, Chrysler and Chevrolet vehicles are not made in this country, right?

Yup. I've got an American vehicle physically made in Canada. It was still designed here.

Just as a point of reference, those numbers are changing much faster than I had expected. The majority of GM's best-selling vehicles (Silverado, Cruze, Sonic) are produced in the US, as are those made by Ford (F-150, Focus, Mustang). Chrysler is still producing most of their vehicles in Mexico or Canada, not much to argue with there.

The parts themselves... Well, that seems to be more negotiable.

40 years ago, which is 27 years before you were born, 'Murican cars were made in 'Murica.

Perhaps coincidentally, they were also terrible as a rule rather than the exception.

So with that said, what do you think about the new NSX?

It was designed, and will be built right here in the good 'ol USA.

Same can probably be said for many other non-American cars sold in this country.

Did you know that the Toyota Tundra has more domestic (US) content than any other mass produced vehicle? Eighty percent of the parts used are made in America and all are built in America. These are 2009 numbers.

I think the thing that brought this issue to the public was how Toyota Sienna was more American than Ford Mustang? It was quite a few years ago.

I personally have no issues with some people preferring domestic cars. I don't think that's being arrogant. However, you also have to remember that Big 3 has been very eager to export American jobs overseas, and it doesn't stop at just assembly, or parts.

It's very competitive out there, and they all do what they feel they must do. ;)
