AI Rally cars faster when losing?

In the last two nights I ran the first five sections of the rally races. I used the Mine's Skyline, and the Impreza Prototype w/stage 1 turbo. The Mine's weighs in with 621 HP, and the Impreza weighs in at 383 HP.

I finished 12 out of 15 with less than a 2 second margin. two were between 2 - 3 secs and one was 3.230 seconds. I ran the Swiss alps against another Impreza Proto, and could baely stay ahead of it. I'd gain the lead off the line, but would never be able to increase the distance. I matched my lines nearly identical in each lap.

Has anyone else noticed that the AI never seem to get too far behind? The Skyline vs. Impreza dropped about 5-6 seconds off my lap times, but the distance between the cars never changed. I managed to spin the TME EVO on tahiti Maze, and was 6.4XX seconds ahead of it at the next lap time marker (Somewhere around halfway). When I crossed the start/finish line he had gained 5+ seconds. I compared my lap times, and I was a second faster than before (When he was down by a half second)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this mean he had actually gained 6 seconds in a half lap? How is it that He can gain 6 seconds in a half lap, but always being 1-2 seconds behind me?

Can someone give me a dissenting opinion?

Thanks,
AO

Well the AI does seem to increase when the number of laps go up. I usually have a close race with the AI on the rally cuz I use a barely modded impreza (old look 330bhp). On my previous save I used a fully tuned ford focus rally car and I was able to make quite a large lead on the first two races, but on the thrid race the AI car seemss to stick to you. This is another one of situations where you dont know how powerfull the AI car is so you just have to guess.

I've experienced the same thing, with rally and roadraces.
At one race, i had a 2 second lead after 6 laps. I couldn't get the gap any larger.
Then in lap 7, i let him pass me and he took a 5 second lead.
Before we reached lap 8!, i allready had taken over the lead again, but as soon as i had my 2 second lead again, he stayed there, 2 secs behind me.

In the options in the two player bit there is this thing called slow car boost. All it does is when one car is far behind it will give that car a power boost, and the car in front gets a power reduction(actually I think the cars get lighter or heavier not more or less powerfull) meaning that it makes it easyer for the loosing driver to catch up. Its very usefull when your driving against people like my friends who play the game, but not as much as I do, so it makes the racing more even.

Yeah but Im just saying maybe its enabled on the rally races against the AI cars. Maybe they dont want you to lap them???
God knows anyway. You would be able to lap them if you used a hugely overpowerfull car (escudo anyone?) but I always sell my escudo.

I'm thinking along the lines of Y2Tuscan, that the AI is given an advantage of some sort to keep pace with the player. What really gets under my skin is that it doesn't hold true when I'm losing.

I'm all for fair game play, but when the program gets to play outside the rules, it loses fun in the game.

I still think that PD missed the boat on the Rally section. Instead of 4 more rally tracks, I would have liked to have seen 4 more road tracks.

Later on I'll try to rerace that and save the replay. Watch it from the AI perspective and see if it's happening.

I seem to recall somone else having a replay around Apricot hill that showed the AI cheating.

Yea I know after a while the rally mode becomes a bit of a chore. It may be different in gT4 though. I was reading they are trying to create long winding tracks. So you could do a propper staged rally! now that would be cool

It lets you watch Television on your computer. Thats how I got that screenshot, thats my game stats

it was late, and nothing was on tv, and i couldnt sleep...what else to do but bang out that rally mode. i have 3 series left in professional, and i knew id have to do rally sometime, so i figure id get it out of the way.

anyways, i was on the smokey mountain II (2nd one), and i thought i would finish by pulling the e-brake and skidding across backward. after u finish, the computer usually straightens u out. i thought it was kinda odd when i kept skidding backward, and i realized i still had a lap left. Whoops!

i had a hefty lead, so no harm.

I fully moded my Escudo and hit the Swiss Alps against the Impreza Proto.. I lost against it by some 11 secs cause couldn't keep the #$%&*éé@ thing on the road !!! :gnasher
