Well erm when I do this it often won't go into photoshop very well and the colours are all messed up. Usually.
I know what do you mean... the image quality is a crap. I only was able to take 1024px screens with 4x of external antialiasing, and that's cheap.
Anyways the new patch is very inspiring! If do you want to experiment a bit, try the following things:
- Gradient map B/W at 50% in soft light blending mode
- Adjust levels (Specially light up the midtones)
- Play with color balance values (Don't overdone it)
- Burn a bit the photo edges to kill the original flat look
Don't expect miracles... I couldn't apply curved blur to the rims with so poor resolution.

alex - when taking pictures in pc games, youve two better options than print screen > photoshop.
a: most pc games have a screen shot button, usually f12. its usually listed in the misc section in keyboard settings. the pictures will either end up in a custom folder in my documents > my pictures, the main game folder, or in a screen shot folder in the game folder. pictures are usually in bmp format and sometimes you can change where the pictures are saved too.
b: programs like fraps. unregistered, fraps will let you take pictures in bmp format and make videos up to 30 seconds with a water mark. registered version will let you take pictures in any format and videos as long as you want (iirc) also, its a very small file and uses up an unnoticeable amount of resources so the game wont take a performance hit. you can also set the "take a picture" to whatever button you want. though, try not to set it to something used by the game/s.

The following images was smashed by other wonderful photos and never won anything, so this dusty graphic design is dedicated to that crappy sucess
