I can't wait to see one of these things in the flesh. I've seen some Alfa Romeos before, but I would be floored seeing this Giulia in person. It has that sort of charm and je ne sais quoi that just grabs you and entices you on just its appearance alone. If its exterior appeals to you, one can only imagine what it would be like to drive this bellissima beauty.

Looks like Alfa hit a winner with this car. Gorgeous lines, great sound, & the reviews seem to like it a lot. I love the fact it'll have an available 500Hp with 6-speed as well; something about rowing gears in a powerhouse sedan is such a soft spot for me.

A tiny Italian man driving an automatic diesel is exactly the opposite kind of review I need to see.

Pistonheads review severely criticises some of the cabin materials and the interior build quality.

Hopefully not representative of final production models.

I guess they are not used to bio composite materials. Remember the Interior is made of a Hemp Material. what i want to know, was there any rattles? Shakes? Squeaks?. would the Trim/structures flex with a push of a finger? non of the reviews had mentioned that, so how could they REALLY judge build quality?

This material is also lighter than traditional materials.

The cabin is spacious with usable room both front and rear and - getting sensible here - a decent sized boot. But the build quality of the cars at the launch event was, let's say, sub-optimal. Most seemed to manifest at least one electronics glitch and many of the interior moldings feel flimsy, the switches on the centre console wobbling noticeably under pressure. The central display screen looks like it should be touch sensitive, but isn't. Instead it's controlled by an old-school turn-and-click wheel.

Need to do better to compete with Audi/BMW/Merc/Jag.

It's face is so horrifying, like some mutated fish with two mouths.

The Giulietta posted early looks much nicer.

goggle translation
Their ancestors have defined the classic sports sedan format without question. Now take the new Alfa Romeo Giulia QV on the BMW M3 Competition . Which top athletes can be in comparison test prevail?
In our comparison test, the two sport sedans meet Alfa Romeo Giulia QV on the BMW M3 Competition successive now to be the reputation of their ancestors justice. Because the 1960s include the Alfa Romeo Giulia: It is fast, practical and emotional. Mid-1970s suggests BMW with three conceptually the same line, and while Alfa Romeo ever further away from the ideal of Giulia, BMW is building a legend: One generation after another top seller, the three makes all company car fleets mobile, he plays without complaint the family car - despite the 50: 50-balance, longitudinally mounted front engine and rear wheel drive. As early as 1986 there is the M3 an over-three, the anschärft hunters genes of compact Bayern ultimatum. Each edition of the M3 goes one better: faster, stronger, more competent.

IULIA QV IS BMW M3 COMPETITION DANGEROUS
Now, we will act, as the development of the Giulia would have gone further than it had ever given this tumultuous mid-size sedan from Italy. Probably the Giulia would be exactly as it now stands before us and BMW M3 makes the Quadrifoglio Verde trim the in our comparative life difficult: A three-liter twin-turbo V6 with 90 degree cylinder angle skin here 510 hp out of the rear axle - no wonder that a normal M3 with its 431 hp as it can not keep up and we have at least to put the 7300 euro expensive M Competition package. Incidentally, this 7300 Euro purely theoretical, because without a sound system is not the M-Competition Package available for purchase, and that costs more 390 Euro. So that makes real 7690 Euro. At least not just 19 hp more and a tenth of a second less from zero to one hundred in it, but also an adaptive sports suspension, fabric / leather bucket seats, rear axle, 20-inch wheels and optical nuances. To gain access to the powerful but nearly 307 km / h top speed of the QV Giulia, the so-called "M Driver's Package" must be purchased for additional 2450 euros - which then goes only to 280 km / h.
More about: Alfa Romeo Giulia vs. Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series.

THE M3 IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE EXPENSIVE - AND THE TEST WEAKER
At the end of so much is a M3 Competition hefty 82,740 euro - and with almost 11,000 euros more. Since eh everything Weißwurscht, we take for the comparative test even the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (3900 €) and the carbon-ceramic brakes (€ 7,300) to and equip with leather seats (1850 €) and a large Navi (€ 2,390) on. A few crosses on the price guide is from the formerly wiry Sport Sedan only one idea left, Parking Assistant with all-round camera plus concierge services Internet Blah make outrageously expensive M3 to luxury cruiser with a great name. And the visible carbon fiber roof clarifies where we are headed: precious, expensive, important - this car is now on the show mile stalling as much impression as before on the track - and now in comparison. The Giulia shows the M3 quickly as you can make it: carbon fiber, there are also the prominent lightweight material is presented but painted on the roof instead. Only the carbon bonnet makes it sparkle coyly - Angle. His place seem. Somehow sympathetic.
More about: Carabinieri love the new Alfa Giulia.

THE GIULIA QV INFECTED WITH THEIR PRAGMATISM
The option list of fast Alfa is also significantly shorter than at BMW: The Giulia is a modern car with a solid package of safety and assistance technique, extra charge are only a few chunks: carbon ceramic brakes there as in comparison M3 7300 Euro, navigation costs extra (2500 €), a leaden panoramic glass roof (1650 €) needs in a car like a man. In temptation bring us more than the Sparco sport bucket seats with a rear part made of carbon fiber (€ 3,490). A dual clutch transmission should be to have the Giulia QV later. Until then, we must be satisfied in Vergleichstets with the standard six-speed manual gearbox - and that is quite awesome: Precise klackend here is a transitional stage to the next. In Dynamic mode, the engine automatically when downshifting is declutching, when shifting the gears can be fully torn standing on the stamp. Again automatically takes the V6 for the duration of the shift away gas. And how then precedes! Panting is roaring Italian biturbo V6 going, pushes the 1655-kilo Giulia in each gear violently forward: the motor for pure driving pleasure from the very bottom to top out powerfully oppressive infernal flaming ensures.

THE TEST SHOWED THAT THE GIULIA QV SETS BEFORE THE M3
Subjectively, but also the nominally 60 PS weaker M3 is hardly slower. It benefits compared by the insane switching speeds of DKG and looks even included a little compromise in the net of stability control systems. But the M-Competition Package has one drawback: The large 20-inch wheels roll loud rumbling from, on poor road surfaces, even the Adaptivdämpfung not quite ironed out the dry response. Overall, the M3 Competition trim as an approved feiltes for track power instrument, the sheer variety of setup modes acts overwhelmed downright. Again and again, one wishes, the M3 could easily, out of itself be homogeneous and authentic: fewer computers, more car. Kinda like the Giulia. The sovereign is traveling with its direct steering and the balanced chassis off the track, it looks sophisticated, without overtaxing. It is versatile, but has maintained its strength of character

CONCLUSION
Technical, more versatile and more demanding than today was an M3 never. Then comes the new Giulia QV and makes for much less money and with much less ferocity exactly the same: a lot of fun!

Good Work FCA

Has production started on these yet? Shortly before I left Belgium just over a week ago, I spotted one in dark blue. Not sure if it was a show car, or an actually already sold unit. It does look rather striking, though I was not able to see it up close.

1st mont "Registrations" were about 800 units. with the 3 Series having 1136 units. Keep in mind the 3 Series is made up of Sedan Wagon and maybe Coupe variants and the face that they only pump out about 60 Giulia's per day.

Also keep in mind that these are REGISTRATIONS which EU goes by instead of "Sales" like the US does. these cars could be company cars, Demo cars, ect.

The 350 HP GME will use an electric assisted turbocharger, from what I can understand. Hopefully it will find its way to Europe and will be available with RWD later on.

What about less powerful petrols, to rival BMW 318i? A 4 cyl. GSE perhaps? Should be easy to make e.g. a 150 HP version with good low down response and punch.

Is that an electric turbo or an electric supercharger? I wonder if it's Valeo's system. They're already in the Audi SQ7.

I bet it's probably a hybrid, meaning an electric motor keeps the turbo "idling" at some threshold RPM and provides an initial torque ramp up until the exhaust flow velocity takes over during acceleration. If it was purely electrical, it would really have no business using the word "turbo" in it, as there would be necessarily a lack of a turbine.

That's not how it works. What you describe there is just a waste of energy. The electric compressor is placed in addition to a turbo and responds to torque demands. There is no other way to achieve its goal without massively more mechanical complexity. You should check out the latest Autoline After Hours where they interviewed the Valeo guy about all of this.

Been Tested in the Giulietta in 2014.

Alfa's version is a Turbo.

Ah, ok. It's probably the Valeo system them.
