Ring times are always bull.

But there's no need to "cheat". As people have noted, high performance tires nowadays are a whole lot better than they used to be.

And, as we all should have learned years ago, turbocharged engine mapping can give you "amazing" performance for the quoted horsepower, simply because you can have all five hundred of those horses over a much wider band. Which matters on a track like the Nurb, where you can hit some silly speeds down the long straights.

In the end, I'm not bothered by something with more quoted power and less weight than a GTR actually going some ten seconds or so slower.

The three engines specified include a 2.0 liter GME “Global Medium Engine” gasoline engine that offers outputs of 200hp, 250hp, and 280hp, a 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine providing 150hp, 180hp, or 210hp, and finally the “Ferrari-derived” twin-turbo 2.9 liter V6 engine with outputs of 490hp and 500hp.

Interesting; two different variations of the V6 engine, one with 490 hp and other with 500? What is the justification for having two versions of the same engine with only a 10 hp gap? From what I see, only the transmission is different between the two (MT for the 500 hp version, AT for the 490 one). And then there is a "DCT" version of the V6 model, which only makes things even more complex...

Well, regardless of this, the lineup does seem to cover a wide range of possible markets; lower-powered (and likely to be the cheapest) diesel versions, mid-range sportier models with petrol engines and of course the tippy-top, high-powered V6 Quadrifoglio versions. It's definitely being aimed at the A4/E-Class market, with all the associated risks behind that goal.

The autrotragic probably can't handle all the rampant stallions. It's probably going to be the luxury spec anyway.

I would guess the difference is from varying emissions equipment depending on which country it's going to.

Still, wouldn't it make more sense to include the "autotragic" as an optional? Why go through the bother of making a whole new version, when you already have the QV with the DCT transmission anyways, therefore making a less-powerful version with an automatic transmission meaningless? The only reason I can find for this would be the one you've mentioned, a possible, more luxurious version. But still, it's either that or Cracker's reason (which is also your own);

Or a limit to how much power that particular auto box can handle.

Emissions? I wouldn't bet on that to be honest, as Alfa would just add that information to all the QV variations, not just the "autotragic" one...

I'm stretching my neurons here, but part of me is assuming that the alphabet/number soup of engines over at VW that a strapped with a turbo might fit in, here. I had been under the impression that the 1.8T was available with a stick and the 7-speed DSG in the Jetta, but depending on trim, got a traditional automatic instead of the GLI's DSG. But now that the 1.4T has replaced the holy crap they still make that? 2.0L, I might be getting my products crossed.

Only other thing I can think of is the Dodge Dart, and its own weird case of mixing engines, transmissions, and trims. When the car first launched, you could get the 1.4T with a dual-clutch, a stick, and I thought with the 9-Speed ZF box... But I think all of that changed after the first year, when the 1.4T was limited to the "Aero" models, while everything else got the 2.4L and either a stick or that ZF unit.

... I expected a bit less than around $40,000 base.
275hp I4 isnt really the "Base" since there are reports of smaller 180hp variants being avaliable. but so Far the Base Alfa is equal to many Top of the line Non performance car trims of its class.

Did the Nissan Qashqai come with an auto, a manual and a CVT? - or was the CVT in place of the slush-box auto option?

I do suppose it works here, if this is what you're looking for... Went for a "Full Stealth Black" approach, and I like the results, with all due honesty.

The more pictures I see of this car, the more I expect to see BMW's kidney grille.. Surely I'm not the only one? It *is* very BMW-ish from the front..
