Alright, thats it. Time for a new PC.

Yeah, It's been 1 1/2 years and it's about time for a new PC.

I guess my price range is anywhere up to $1,200. It might sound cheap, but hey...

I guess my prefrences are...

AMD processor 2.2Ghz to 2.8GHz
At least 512mb of RAM.
40 gig HD
52x Cd-rom is fine Or DVD rom is good too.
Regular, average CD-RW.
Floppy drive, of course.
Average sound card. Soundblaster is fine.

And the age old question...What video card?

Radeon 9600 Xt or 9800. No Nvidia.

What I'm trying to say is that I basically need to find a site that can build this system or something similar.

And they must be well known, and have a good reputation on customer service Etc.

Thanks in advance,
Akira.

If you're buying Athlon, get a mobo with the nForce2 Ultra chipset and the SoundStorm. Then you can skip the soundcard....

Any motherboard with the nForce 2 chipset is pretty fast for the K7 Athlons. I believe Gigabyte is the only one who has Serial ATA on their nForce 2 boards.

Check out Tom's benchmarks before you make a decision.: http://www20.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030721/index.html

I read some of the user reviews on toms hardware and most people said it was great. Apart from one guy who said that it was too complex and the manual was ****ty. I downloaded the manual and it looked just fine.

Ahh, just read that benchmark test.

Well i'm impressed with it, looks like i'll buy that when my money comes through. It's not going to be used for games, well much. I think it's about time to ditch my mighty (saracasm) IBM 300PL.

Try Direct PC.

Didn't know about them until I did a google, they had the top banner for google so I tried them.

Let me tell you a bit about what I put together:
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Athlon XP 2800+ Barton
512MB RAM
80GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache
52X CD drive
52x32x52 CD-RW drive
ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ES 5.1
Floppy drive
400 watt PSU

(Case, of course, you could easily change it.)
Windows XP Pro
Probably a few small other things, but you pretty much get it.
If you feel like messing around over there I'll tell you what model I started out with. I went to AMD Athlon XP PCs, then I selected the model Tower XP-500B and customized it.

Total price: $1,164. Might want to check into'em.

1 year warrenty, although for extra $ you can make it 2 or even 3. No clue about the reputation, I wouldn't imagine it'd be too bad, though. I'd check into it, maybe I will later.

Actually, yeah. If I were building it, I would do an Athlon system, but you could certainly do something nice with that much $. Do you have a friend that does this stuff that might be able to build your computer? You could do a pretty nice shmeal...
