How do you not consider it when you start planning a game before he next gen consoles are out but after the dev tools are in circulation? It has to be a consideration, and you can guarentee Sony will have had a meeting about it at some point and considered it.
Considering where you want you product to be placed is something that happens before hand, not afterwards when it's already mostly been developed. That only needs to massive issues down the line if there really is a change last minute, that goes for mostly anything too, not just this game. If they're considering this option so late in the game, it really doesn't seem like a good thing - If they just switched to this recently, that also isn't a good thing.

You make it sound like considering something is something simple and menial, yet it is exactley what it sounds like. I had a member of staff who I considered giving another chance to before settleing on giving them the boot. It was big decision and ultimately the right decision but another chance was considered.
No, that was exactly the exact opposite of what I'm making it sound like. I don't think it's simple or menial, that's why I think "considering" this late in the game is a problem. I think I painted that pretty clearly. The anecdote doesn't really fit in game development, as these are things that are long, long planned in advanced. You don't plan on firing a person on their introduction to the company, and the start of their career.

Ah, ok I misunderstood what you were getting at.

I didn't mean that they just considered it now, but that it was condered at some point, likely early in planning/development. His comments give no indication of when this consideration may have taken place but it would be logical to have been earlier rather than later.

His comments could read that they considered those games at some point and will continue to consider certain games if they will be cross gen or not on an ongoing basis.

The anecdote wasn't intended to highlight when a consideration wold be made, but rather that you consider all kinds of things big and small, but it was in response to how I originally misunderstood your point so not releveant to what you were actually saying.

But to throw one pebble, what if a decision to make GT7 cross gen is the real reason for the delay?

You're definitely not wrong, I'm just thinking half empty, especially with how information about this game seems to be flopping left and right.

This was touted as an exclusive at first, so it seems odd to backtrack on what's been known to bring up something like that. On top of that, like you mention, the timing of the delay, and then this, it doesn't leave you thinking the best thoughts on the subject lol.

Can you link to the source of this?

Edit: I found some sources myself and it reads to me like it’s a consideration that they have made for some of their bigger titles, and will continue to make as they produce more games. I’m not wholly convinced by this statement that GT7 will be cross-gen though but I guess time will tell! As long as we get the full potential for the DualSense I’ll be happy!

I am reviving this thread because I have a question regarding my GT7 25th AE I ordered off Amazon.

I received the game on March 4th and used the enclosed digital code to download the PS4 version. As I don't have a PS5 I haven't touched the physical disc. After reading about people boycotting or outright returning the game over what has been happening over the last 24 hours I got curious about whether Amazon would let me return my order. And it turns out it does. If I wanted, I could send the game back and get a full refund.

What would happen after that though? Is Amazon staff going to test whether the enclosed digital code is still redeemable? Would they retroactively reduce the refund amount after finding out that I had used code? And what if the tiny piece of paper with the code on it was missing alltogether?

It's hard to imagine that I'd be getting a full refund and thereby essentially end up with a free digital copy of GT7, so it would be interesting to know whether anyone has had any experience with this kind of scenario before.
