Considering where you want you product to be placed is something that happens before hand, not afterwards when it's already mostly been developed. That only needs to massive issues down the line if there really is a change last minute, that goes for mostly anything too, not just this game. If they're considering this option so late in the game, it really doesn't seem like a good thing - If they just switched to this recently, that also isn't a good thing. How do you not consider it when you start planning a game before he next gen consoles are out but after the dev tools are in circulation? It has to be a consideration, and you can guarentee Sony will have had a meeting about it at some point and considered it.
No, that was exactly the exact opposite of what I'm making it sound like. I don't think it's simple or menial, that's why I think "considering" this late in the game is a problem. I think I painted that pretty clearly. The anecdote doesn't really fit in game development, as these are things that are long, long planned in advanced. You don't plan on firing a person on their introduction to the company, and the start of their career. You make it sound like considering something is something simple and menial, yet it is exactley what it sounds like. I had a member of staff who I considered giving another chance to before settleing on giving them the boot. It was big decision and ultimately the right decision but another chance was considered.
