Still boggles my mind that Republicans were so offended by the French's opposition to the failed invasion of Iraq that they actually thought we would rename french fries to "Freedom Fries". To such an extent that a literal US congressman, Bob Ney of North Carolina, attempted to rename french fries and french toast in school cafeterias.

Sauerkraut was known as liberty cabbage during WW1.

I can kind of understand wanting to avoid using German terms in a war against the German empire but it sure sounds weird to target those associated with a non hostile nation, that wants to remain neutral, for not being hawkish enough.

I know but the word "German" wasn't even in there. Might as well rename vodka "liberty spirit" or cigars "freedom sticks".

German shepherd dogs were renamed Alsatians for that same reason though. The name stuck "officially" until 1977, almost 60 years.

I don't think it had to be as it was so associated with Germany that "kraut" is used as a derogatory term for Germans over here. Maybe it was their national identity the freedumbers were trying to combat, not just the descriptor itself.

Vodka was originally marketed as white whiskey and marketers stressed its connection to pre-Communist Russia as opposed to the USSR during the Cold War.

The CNN report of a restaurant removing its bottles of French's mustard during Gulf War I kind of gives the lie to my argument, though.

Fun fact, French Fries aren't actually from France, they are in fact Belgian.

It comes from the verb "to french".

Normal people doing normal things.
Former President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform what he claimed was the home address of former President Barack Obama on the same day that a man with guns in his van was arrested near the property, federal prosecutors said Wednesday in revealing new details about the case.

Taylor Taranto, 37, who prosecutors say participated in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol, kept two firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition inside a van he had driven cross-country and had been living in, according to a Justice Department motion that seeks to keep him behind bars.

On the day of his June 29 arrest, prosecutors said, Taranto reposted a Truth Social post from Trump containing what Trump claimed was Obama’s home address. In a post on Telegram, Taranto wrote: “We got these losers surrounded! See you in hell, Podesta’s and Obama’s.” That’s a reference to John Podesta, the former chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Democratic presidential campaign.

Taranto also told followers on his YouTube live stream that he was looking to get a “good angle on a shot,” prosecutors said.

A federal defender representing Taranto did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment. But in a motion seeking to have him released pending trial, the lawyer wrote that Taranto was not a flight risk, had a family in Washington state and had served in Iraq before being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.

“Mr. Taranto has been available and in plain sight for the last two and a half years,” wrote the lawyer, Kathryn D’Adamo Guevara.

According to the Justice Department’s detention memo, Taranto’s wife told investigators that he had come to Washington this time because of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s offer earlier this year to produce unseen video of the Jan. 6 attack. Taranto already faces four misdemeanor counts related to the Capitol assault, when prosecutors say he joined the crush of rioters who broke into the building and made his way to the entrance of the Speaker’s Lobby outside the House chamber.

Since then, prosecutors say, Taranto has been active online, posting a Facebook video of himself in the Capitol that day and endorsing a conspiracy theory that the death of Ashli Babbitt — who was fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer as she began to climb through the broken part of a door leading into the Speaker’s Lobby — was a hoax.

The FBI had been monitoring Taranto’s online activities because of his involvement in the riot, and began searching for him last Wednesday after he asserted on his YouTube livestream that he was in Gaithersburg, Maryland on a “one-way mission” and intended to blow up the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The following day, he continued his livestream from the Washington neighborhood where Obama lives — an area heavily monitored by the U.S. Secret Service — and said that he was looking for “entrance points” and wanted to get a “good angle on a shot,” according to the detention memo.

Officials said he was spotted by law enforcement a few blocks from the former president’s home and fled, though he was chased by Secret Service officers.

Bringing cocaine into the White House while on an official tour and then leaving it somewhere in the West Wing would require extraordinary nerve and/or stupidity.
Much like the author of this story and it’s subscribed base.

A great article to highlight why NR is not a reliable news source. It took a story and decided to spin it as, “Lol, must by Hunter’s bc no way it could be anyone else”.

Leave your trash outside next time.

Who do you think Vegas would put the odds on?
The secret service already knows. There are cameras everywhere.

I mean, Hunter Biden and coke in the White House is humourous in a SNL kind of a way. Does it really hold any weight though? Probably not. Drugs are likely common in the White House though. I mean Don Jr. clearly loves nose beers and he was always at the White House. It actually won't surprise me if most politicians dabbled in some sort of illicit substance and Madison Cawthorn sort of confirmed that when he stated he went to cocaine fueled orgies.

In Vegas they say the house always wins. Must be because of all the sucker bets, maybe:
Politico
“Even if there were surveillance cameras, unless you were waving it around, it may not have been caught” by the cameras, added the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity given that it’s an ongoing investigation. “It’s a bit of a thoroughfare. People walk by there all the time.”
Cons will try their darndest to tie this to Joe though. Maybe it'll make us forget that there was an actual coke sniffing son of a former president acting as one of that president's political advisers.

This is now a completely normal thing to hear from a former President of the United States.

I suspect that the reason why the Satsuma Seditionist is so sure exactly how much coke was left there is because his kid told him.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has reportedly been ousted from the Freedom Caucus, the farthest right congressional faction of the Republican Party... for allegedly being too moderate. She is the first Freedom Caucus member to be voted out, and only the second to leave the group, after Justin Amash in 2019. According to fellow caucus member Andy Harris, Greene's alignment with speaker McCarthy, and support for a debt ceiling deal, has subjected her to criticism within the caucus. Yet, Greene sparring with Lauren Boebert on the house floor last week, in which she referred to Boebert as a "little bitch" for "copying" her motion to impeach to Joe Biden, was "the straw that broke the camel's back", according to Harris. Though her office has declined to release a statement, it is reported that Greene has ignored all subsequent calls from Freedom Caucus members since her being ousted.

Two words that almost never occur in the same sentence: "Greene" and "moderate".

Seriously, this dude is next-level scum and while some people are complaining about unsafe prisons, I can't help but think Nassar now knows what it's like to be penetrated without consent. Glad he'll survive though because being killed means he no longer needs to face the consequences for his actions.
