Whatever the real reason, from the sounds of it the moment with Merkel was certainly awkward. Then again, Trump seems like an awkward guy to begin with. His mannerisms and facial expressions imply that he doesn't seem comfortable in his own skin, at least that has been my observation.

This. She's stiffing him for a ton money she owes for NATO.

When they provide 16% of the total budget already (the second highest of any of the 28 countries including USA, naturally) you can see why the GDP calculation rankles a little.

The other issue which raises its head perennially is that no NATO country (except the USA) has bases in the USA. That's not true in reverse, not by any means.

Yeah, Trump is a fish out of water. Not a true politician as he lacks the essential tact, as well as the urge to "press the flesh" (handshaking). Like Forrest Gump, he finds himself rather by accident in a position he did not really expect. I don't think he likes it all that much. It's proving to be much harder than he thought, what with the Deep State and other Republicans dogging his every move. I think he's really frustrated by the courts thwarting his travel ban so far.

Should he survive assassination and impeachment, I think it's four and done for the Don. The tragedy of it all is, now every egotistical billionaire in the country fancies themselves presidential timber.

Trump is a self admitted Germaphobe with borderline untreated OCD and he has called the practice of shaking hands "barbaric" saying he fears the Flu and all sorts of other things. I'm fairly certain that Angela Merkel know this already and that is probably why she asked him if it was ok, which is very courteous of her.

Yet he's proud of his ability to grab women by the vagina? That sounds somewhat backwards.

Also, remember that Trump is the guy that people have made fun of for legendarily long handshakes, like his classic with Shinzo Abe.

Trump lies to justify whatever he wants to do. If he wants to put it around that he's a germophobe to explain not shaking hands with Merkel, it's almost certainly just another lie.

Warren Harding II?

The President pulls people towards him during handshakes. It sort of makes him look dominant but mostly makes him look like a bully & a 🤬.

Maybe he didn't want to look ridiculous by either physically bullying a little old lady or by noticeably changing his dominant style while he shook hands with the leader of the free world.

She's the leader of the free world?!
Tell me more!

She's about to lose her job?

And it seems to me the "free world" is systematically becoming less free. And she is the face of one of the reasons why?

I'm not sure there really is a leader of the free world but it's a term that's used a lot. If there are candidates for it, she'd be one of the names considered.

Trump shakes hands for so long to partially steal the souls of those leaders he comes in contact with, to extend his life. Merkel clearly doesn't have much soul to give, so Trump decided to forgo said shake.

According to Trump, North Korea is "acting very, very badly":

http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2017-...korea-leader-kim-jong-un-acting-badly/8368826

Really? I use stronger terms when one of my Year 8 students is acting out in class, and they (as far as I know) don't have a nuclear arsenal.
Will loud noises and stinking smoke soon be issuing from the Korean peninsula? Will a dab more radiation soon be wafting west from the far east? Is this going to be fun and games like the good old days, or will there be worrisome aspects along with the fun?

The FBI is investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russia and possible collusion.

They better find something. It'll be deeply embarrassing if they don't. It'll be deeply embarrassing yet justified blow to the office of President of the United States if a sitting president is caught in an election corruption scandal with a foreign power, but still... it'll be equally embarrassing if they do all this digging and come up with nothing. And it will be all the FAKE NEWS Trump needs to ride a propaganda wave for the next 8 4 years. Sad!

Say they do find something and Trump is removed. Does the sound of option B aka Pence feel any more secure? He'll be an actual professional in addressing everyone but I thought the Left weren't keen on him either.

Is his campaign as Vice President different from Trump's or would/could they both be removed?

Step on up, Speaker Ryan...

I don't really know how the system works fully down south there, but Pence ran with Trump so doesn't that imply he was part of it too? Why would you keep the Vice of the guy who colluded to rig the election, he would have probably been in on it too? In my head an entirely new republican convention would need to be called, if not entire election.

Ok, so, if Trump is found guilty of a crime, it would then fall to an impeachment process to remove him from office. The election, as I understand it, is over. If the House and Senate decided to impeach and remove from office (respectively), they could also separately impeach and remove Pence if he was also convicted.

Pence is far more conservative than Trump and a fervent born-again Christian. But as you suggest, he has the tact Trump lacks, so would be a suitable President for Republicans if not liberal/progressives. There has never been any allegation that he is tied up in Trump's Russia connections in any way, so would not be affected by that.

I doubt that any real evidence is going to turn up connecting Trump to Russia in any improper way. So far there is none produced, but we will see as investigation progresses.

If Trump is proved to be doing wrong vis-a-vis the Russians, then it would be up to House to impeach him and Senate to convict. If convicted, Pence would automatically become President.
