Multiple people claiming that Iran has offered a bounty of 80 million for Trump’s head.

George Lopez has offered to “do it for half”.

Wtf timeline are we living in??????
Are we living in a timeline in which every site you visit and every post you make goes into a permanent record?

Yes, I believe so.

It’s a funny world we live in. I got banned from twitter once for jokingly telling someone to kill themselves. Yet the same platform is being used by Trump to threaten the bombing of cultural sites (he’s since doubled down on this threat, siting terrorist tactics as justification for stooping to their level), used by the Iranian government to put up bounties and broadcast parliament sessions where the whole caucus is shouting “death to America”, regular people and some verified accounts wishing for nukes to be used on Iran because head-ass reasons, Iranian accounts talking about all the American blood they’re going to spill, and freakin George Lopez openly saying he’s willing to kill the president of the US for 40 million dollars.

It’s...it’s almost like these social media platforms don’t care about “policing hate”, and just care about generating clicks

The funniest part so far though has to be Michael Moore sending a personal message to “Ayatollah Khomeini”, who died in 1992, apologizing on behalf of America...and advertising his podcast at the same time....a podcast that opens with music playing, something the current Ayatollah Khemeini has a fatwa against. Is this real life, or a monti python sketch?

Montrose is it? I am reminded of Montrose's toast,

“He either fears his fate too much,
Or his desserts are small,
Who dares not put it to the touch,
To win or lose it all.”

At times of great fear and anger, people with little to lose make impulsive comments and commit rash actions. As if everything was now on the line and the end-time has come to turn the cube, and let it all hang out on one final apocalyptic toss of the dice. In such times of great madness, the best of us need to double down on calm, cool and collected.

Pfft.

"When you need a friend through thick and thin...don't look to those above you.
When you're down and out, ain't no doubt...nobody wants you.
But you're rock candy baby...hard, sweet and sticky."

So we've gone from impeachment to assassination... Sounds legit...

Trump is threatening non-military targets and is also effectively refusing to remove troops from Iraq at this point, and this comes off the back of ordering an assassination of a foreign leader. At this point, it seems like Trump would have Trump killed.

Montrose and Defender were already in the area having performed escorts during the latter part of 2019, they're redeploying into the Straits. Neither of our aircraft carriers are in the region, I think Queen Elizabeth is in the South China sea while Prince Charles is still parked at Portsmouth having its ears trimmed.
Can confirm. Crossed the Solent yesterday, very much a carrier in the harbour.

I doubt they will see any action without complete assurance of air superiority, given Iran has an air force of sorts.

I saw some announcement that the Navy would "protect British shipping" which I take to mean some WW2-style convoying. I highly doubt a carrier will be asked to take part, they aren't exactly practical escort ships.

LMFTFY

Anyone with shares in Raytheon and Lockheed Martin will have been delighted since the US airstrike.

I personally feel this is more a result of a wider, emotionally detached world of "sensible time sensitive investments". People who wanna make money off stock are gonna take advantage of any global event that changes the business landscape. I don't feel that necessarily means that Trump acts on their behalf.

From where I sit, heartless war profiteering is a companion to every conflict.

War has always been a racket. Always will be.

Clearly that doesn't count. This is Murika, not NK. We aren't the out of control country threatening everyone, poking all the bee hives and bears with sticks....

The US apparently also has the right to occupy any foreign country indefinitely in spite of anything it does, because ... well Murika.

Trump threatens Iraq with sanctions if US troops are expelled

This is really Trump (the "peace & prosperity" President) with his out of control ego threatening everyone.

I think I'm now to the point where it's all just too absurd for words.

I also wonder if Trump realizes that attacking cultural sites, while against international law, is also a really good way to breed terrorist. You know that Archer meme about ants, well...

I mean for Christ's sake, you know who destroys culturally significant sites? ISIS. I'd like to think the leader of America, despite all his flaws, is better than an organized terrorist group.

If Trump goes through with overstepping Congress, destroying cultural sites, and essentially occupying Iraq against its will, it should no longer be a case of impeachment, but war crimes. And the sad part is, this asshat is going to get elected again for a second term because the Democrats are going to rig the primaries to get Biden the nomination.

To be fair to Trump, he didn't say cultural sites. He said "sites ... some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture".

A reasonable person would infer that means that the targets may include purely cultural sites, but a man who once tweeted the word "covfefe" can't be taken at face value. He may have meant "society" rather than "culture" (things like power stations), or he may have meant sites that have a military or governmental function and are important in the state's culture, like the White Palace and the Marble Palace, much like the White House is in the USA.

Or he might blow up an 8th century mosque. It's hard to know for sure.

Hold on a minute. I don't know if the DNC will try & "rig the primaries", but it's not clear that if they did & Biden won the nomination that would mean the Trump would win the GE. If Trump wins the next election it will be because enough Americans support his point of view & policies.

Libertarians ... & a lot of other people like to claim that it doesn't matter which of the two major parties you vote for.
I think this is patently incorrect. The Democrats & Republicans may, in some respects, act in similar ways, but do you really believe that Al Gore, if he had become President, would have blundered into Iraq? Do you really believe that HRC would have reneged on the Iran nuclear treaty & be threatening Iraq's "cultural sites". Do you really think Biden would continue the the belligerent nationalist policies of Trump?

Obama is potentially guilty of this as well with drone strikes. I imagine Regan isn't in the clear either.

In my opinion, Trump only won because he wasn't Hillary. If the Democrats had picked nearly anyone else, they would've beat Trump. I don't think Biden has enough support to beat Trump either and moderate Republicans will still link him to Obama and vote for Trump just because he isn't Biden. The Democrats need a moderate candidate, preferably someone who's reasonably young to get people under the age of 40 excited enough to vote.

I'll give you Gore, I don't think he would've ever gotten involved in Iraq. I still feel like Bush the Younger did it to finish what Papa Bush started. Clinton though? I'm not so sure. It might not have been Iran, but I do think she would've gotten the US involved in Syria. I don't think she would've been bat:censored: insane about it, but I do think she would've got us into a conflict somewhere in the Middle East.

I think Biden would be pro-war as well. Afterall Obama continued a conflict every single day of his presidency, despite campaigning he would get us out of a war. I think Biden would do the same thing.

As for it doesn't matter who you vote for, I still stand by it. Gore was a bit of anomaly, but for the most part, the candidates over the past 40 years or so have been rather pro-war. As weird as it is for me to say, I wish Gore would've won. I'm not sure he would've made a good president or not, but if he delivered on some of his promises we'd be in better shape. I think his link to Clinton hurt him though.

As a European I'm more than aware of Obama's foreign policy 'issues' but Bush's illegal war in Iraq and all the fallout of said war was the most well known to me, and surprisingly brought up his dad too...

Iran is momentarily paralyzed, incapable of taking any revenge action. They are trapped between the angry base and the thinkers at the top who are rightly worried about losing their empire. Their very first concern is their defense, since the US has so obviously penetrated their communications.
