Supreme Court upholds NY prosecutors' access to Trump's tax returns, rebuffs Congress

It strikes me as odd that the same two Justices dissented in the two rulings, in Trump's favor against NY prosecutors and in Congress' favor against Trump.

I also think both rulings are fair. The ruling against Congress may seem like a blow to investigation, but it was adventurous to begin with.

Of particular interest to me, however, is that Trump's appointments Gorsuch and Kavanaugh joined the majority against Trump and in favor of NY prosecutors. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out; they were "disloyal" and he can't fire them. Does he rail against them on social media? I have no doubt he wants to, but people around him would likely rather he didn't.

...

I've copied the full article above, but maybe give The Hill your click anyway, and the article links to the full decision where I have not, instead opting to keep it clean and easier to read as I usually do.

He's already bitching on Twitter about it.

The saving's grace of Trump's supreme court appointments is that neither are actually Trump lackeys, they are federalist favorites. I assume Trump thought they would be loyal to him but I think he misunderstood (revealing McConnell's enormous intellectual advantage over Trump). Despite Kavanaugh's suspicious past, both of them at least seem ethically moored to some set of principals (and the constitution) rather than to the man that appointed them.

Can someone explain what this accomplishes? I mean genuinely, can someone give me a plausible reason for doing this? (Other than making Stephen Miller hard I mean)

International Students Blindsided By ICE Rule Change

I'm sure Canada and Europe would love to take our higher-ed business. Is it good news for the USA if our Ivy League schools start opening satellite campuses north of the border? Is it good if we have a massive brain drain? Is it good if we lose tens of billions of dollars due to loss of international students? Please Trump supporters, explain this away.

And has been for hours. Hours. Amazing.

This put a grin on my face:

Taking advantage of a public health crisis for the nationalist agenda. Nice.

Trump and education sec. Betsy Devos (arguably the most corrupt person in his cabinet) threaten to drastically cut funding for public schools in the US if they do not reopen, and also claims that the CDC guidelines for schools that do reopen are "too tough and expensive".

That seems to be his thing, threaten to withhold funding from something that refuses to bend to his will. Public schools are so underfunded now they probably won't know the difference.

IMHO it's manufactured conflict. The feds fund less that 10% of schooling. It's mostly paid for by state and local sources.

Trump just loves to create division, tension and maddened conflict. IMHO, you are not going to believe the division and conflict that are going to come from the November election.

This may be especially true if the election is close. Trump is single-mindedly moving toward a position of stealing the election if it's close. He'll challenge the results in close states due to "fraud" and then the challenge could ultimately end up in congress, where he can be handed the presidency. He has been systematically positioning toward that already.

In order to avoid being caught up in a civil war, would you abandon your job, your home and your community in favor of starting over again in a safer location? Or would you side with the dominant force in your community, whichever one it was, in order to keep your family safe?

Didn't I politely ask you to stop making posts that are worded like this? You sound like you write headlines for the National Enquirer.

Bali.

We all need to stop taking the easy way out....we need to make and take tough decision, standing up against the established corruption, and start by kicking that MFD trump of the the white house....

trump and his fools and family are all devoided of any human soul, they should be banished from society... They are toxic.

... then I never saw real communist
I'm still interested in the supposed communist in the United States, to which you referred, who purchased an offensive statue of Lenin.

Or are you dodging the solicitation because responding is likely to compromise your position?

You mean my tongue in cheek position? I know the story behind Seattle statue.

I would think that more interesting would be comparison of offensiveness of Lenin and Roosevelt statues, no?

Ah, the sarcasm defense. It's having a bit of a moment, isn't it?

I suppose that would depend on which Roosevelt. Wait, no, it makes no difference to me because I neither hold statues as sacred nor have any particular desire to see them removed or relocated, but I'll admit I've derived considerable enjoyment watching people lose their **** over the idea of their removal or relocation.

No, I responded to the bit that I responded to because it struck me as you slapping a label on someone with whom you disagree--even if that label doesn't actually fit--as you've demonstrated a propensity to do.

People are boycotting the brand Goya because the CEO praised Trump.
I wager they'll be okay. The people who announce on social media that they're boycotting probably weren't likely to purchase products anyway, just as people who announce on social media that they're going to go out and purchase products likely won't. No meaningful impact either way.

I'll go ahead and keep purchasing the products from them that I do because they're good products.

I said I know the story behind Seattle statue and I mean official story as presented on Wiki, which sound to me like bollocks anyway. One don't attract people who fled from eastern block to restaurant with Lenin statue, that's beyond ridiculous. So I used a bit of sarcasm and labeled him as I see fit. You know opinions, everybody have them. It goes without saying that I don't know him so truth can be anywhere.
