Trump loves power, money, and himself. And if he has to be an authoritarian (tyranny exists in many forms - not just Hitler) to do so, he will, and has stated as much himself. Not only that, but the EO he's issuing are already testing the water, and that's without the unaccountable power the SCOTUS handed the position.


On a high note, at least some of those from JAn 6 TRump issued pardons to have had some return to a moral compass. It may only be two, but it's better than none.

For as terrible as Trump is, declassifying the documents on JFK, RFK, and MLK Jr. is huge. The country deserves to know what happened, and it's been long enough that anyone involved in a cover-up is dead. Declassifying any file on UFOs and UAPs would be an even bigger deal. Granted, I do think this is to distract from Trump doing more asinine crap, but he's going to do that crap whether we are watching or not, so we might as well be entertained by all of these files while the world burns. If there is something within the UFO files, I'm guessing Führer Musk is chomping at the bit to get billions of that sweet, sweet military budget to build space stuff to protect us from the aliens.

Some way of formally detailing the effect of businesses on society and highlighting ethical practices couldn't hurt. I'm wondering now if the concept of wealth through prosperity is considered at all in business education. In the short term maximizing your own profit is best but in the long run raising everyone else up accelerates progress overall, or at least I'd think so.

The problem is that its not only best, its often the only consideration, particularly if the executives making the decision are beholden to shareholder returns. A totally unregulated capitalist system would be the most effective and fastest way to fully consume the resources of earth and make it an unlivable hellscape, and everyone would think they are doing the right thing. But now we have an entire slice of political electorate, who are petulant children, that act in bad faith at every opportunity. Trump doesn't want to drill in the artic (and everywhere else) because its necessary or makes sense, he wants to drill in the artic because its contrarian. The whole god damn conservative movement is contrarian simply because they have no actual ideas. Whatever the liberals want to do, we'll do the opposite because its the opposite.

We need to start thinking like this: How can we be good ancestors?

It turns out that shareholders often have no idea what's going on in the company, what's good for the company, where the company is going, or half the time even give two flips about the company. Trying to do and say things to get these people excited about buying shares is just the worst way to run a company.

From what I have read, the "comparatively low volume of still classified documents" wouldnt paint a different picture, so in fact it really would be done as a form of distraction.

I'm with you - but its the surest path* to BigWealth there is. As long as obscene wealth can legally be obtained (it can) and as long as people want obscene wealth more than anything else (they do) then its going to continue. It's just fully integrated into corporate civilization now. We either need to make obscene wealth less appealing (like a 100% tax on wealth over $1bn or something) or overhaul executive compensation with more guardrails, or enforce ethics. If we don't change anything, I'm afraid we're going to end up as a fundamentally unproductive, ethically bankrupt society, which just consumes and destroys the earth.

*What I mean here is that its a path that can be planned via business degrees, networking, rising through corporate ladders rather than the other way which is to be a very lucky AND a charismatic/charlatan salesman like Musk/Bezos/Zuck which requires immense will, a lot of uppers, and even less ethics.
