Beginner Sector 4. How? Just how?

I've tried and retried but I can't get below 2:31, let alone the 2:30 required for gold. I feel as though my driving line is pretty spot on and I'm struggling to find room for improvement. I've watched a couple of YouTube videos, both of which were done with a wheel, whereas I'm using DS3. The thing I have noticed is that people only beat it by half a second so I guess it must be hard.

I just find the act of repeating something endlessly with little improvement so frustrating. Especially considering this is only the beginner series in the AMG driving academy. I've never claimed to be good at this game but I am persistent and I'm determined to get all gold trophies... somehow.

You reminded me its the only special event i have to gold,i think im on all silvers,i remember them being annoying too.

Not knowing more of where you're struggling and on which specific one (Dry? Wet? SLS? Classic Gullwing?).

The dry with the Gullwing or SLS is fairly straight forward.
If it's the wet with the old Gullwing, turn off all aids... including no TCS. It's harder to control, but the TCS will make you lose a TON of speed since it'll catch on any little slip. You will be slipping everywhere.
The wet with the SLS is harder, but again, turn off the aids. If you absolutely need TCS, set it to just 1.
The wets need larger braking areas, and knowing your going to understeer contantly.

Can you get back to me/us with specifics? Name the areas where you think you're losing time. :)

As he said Beginner Sector 4

Last Sector from Brünnchen to the Finish Line with the SL300 , dry.

I know your frustration very well. With the old gullwing I found shifting abit early very beneficial. That is shifting when the little red indicator just starts to flash, rather then winding out the gears. Give us alittle more detail as to your settings and weather it's wet or dry, and we'll be glad to help any way we can. Good Luck

My settings which helped me get a 2:29:960 with the DualShock 3.
ABS - 1
Controller Steering - 7
Everything else off(although active steering might help you a bit depending on your style of driving)

The first few corners I was extremely light on the brakes and had the 300SL slide a bit while feathering and jamming the throttle at certain points during a corner when I felt the car straightening out/or gaining traction. You can take the last corner before the long straight without braking at all and accelerating through but keep your inputs steady and feather the throttle if need be.

Sand trap 1 speed - I was able to maintain 80-85mph(160+km/h?)
Sand trap 2 speed - Speed did not go below 69mph(139km/h)

Good luck! 👍

Wow... totally missed the OP's first sentence. Sorry!:dopey:

Ddrizle said you can stay wide open after the long straight. That's true, but if you find yourself not being able to control all the way up to the last chicane, just trail brake a little. That's what I did.

But still... if you feel that you're losing in a specific area and can name it, we'll give you many ways to tackle it!

2:28.997 within the 1st try after nearly 1 year I did this the last time.

DS3 (D-Pad , X and Square)

Edit:

Driving Aids : ABS 1 only

Don't lose heart, the early challenges aren't any easier than the later ones. In fact, the dry ones are much harder than the wet ones. In the rain, you basically just have to keep the car pointed in the right direction the whole way to get gold.

There's always time to be found at the Ring.

I found it really hard to gold until I saw that the TCS was on, so I turned it off and in one or to tries I got gold. Another hint (which you may know already, but I'm gonna share it anyway) is to find a line that enables you to accelerate out of the corners. It's better to enter the corner slow and leave it fast than to enter the corner fast and leave it slow.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, much appreciated.

I watched a few YouTube videos and I can see that I'm losing speed in the corners but I feel as though I'm driving to the limit and if I go any faster I'll understeer into the grass/sand. I use the Audi R8 V10 sign at the beginning of the long straight as a checkpoint, generally aiming to pass it at 1:34.

I found this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvSqLU9ZQY4 (on a side note: how do I embed YouTube videos? Never works for me) which was somewhat depressing 'cause this guy drives all over the place yet still gets gold. Swear he's got some nitrous boost going on.

I might try to upload a replay of my best lap, see if that helps. I think I've got the driving line nailed but perhaps I'm worrying about it too much and as a consequence, driving too slow. I'll keep trying, and thanks again for your help.

EDIT: Forgot to say - I turn off all aids but have started using Active Steering set to Strong, which seems to have helped a little.

You're welcome! I sometimes find I'm driving way too slow when I feel like I'm driving "to the limit". What I'm actually doing is driving too comfortably. Drive each corner harder and harder until you do pass that limit. Then you know to back it up a touch.

This would be great.

Two other tips I'd consider: After the first right, you come to Eiskerve. You need to break early, before you turn left. This will help you stay to the middle/left side of the road when you get to the crest, instead of cutting the crest to the right.
Also, the final sweeping right-hander prior to the long straight (Dottinger-hohe) There is a major bump on entry on the inside near the kerb. Stay to the left-center to avoid the bounce and rebound.

I basically did this as well, got gold just last night. Also, if you keep the car straight for as long as possible you can brake a lot later after the long straight, it feels like you're going to go off but you can keep the throttle flat until you get into the last little kink in the road just before the sharp right.

You might know this already, but ASM slows you down ALOT so turning that off will greatly improve your time. I couldn't get gold in lots of challenges until I turned off the ASM

Ha! I did it! Got something like 2:29.7XX (with gold being 2:30) so a bit close but I'm so relieved. After that the full lap race was stupidly easy; I just wish the Sunday drivers would move over and let me past. I noticed that there's a couple of cars that are miles ahead when you start the full lap race and seemingly impossible to catch up to. I got a time of 8:45 (with 8:49 needed for gold) but I was still a long way off catching them. I'm just wondering if it's possible to over take them, 'cause surely they wouldn't there otherwise? I'm sure there's someone who's a pro at Nurburgring who could do it...?

Just take it easy :)
See the ai replay and compare to your race where u loose time (look at speed coming out of corners)
You can do it !

(I found the full lap in the rain the most difficult. keeping that heavy sls off the grass for a whole speed lap.)
It still it one of the most fun challenges in the game. if it was to easy it would be no fun :P.
