Anyone else notice the Top Gear reference?

Anyone who watches Top Gear (quite a lot judging by GTP's TG fanbase) may remember when they raced a Mitsubishi Evo rally car against a bob sleigh in Lillehammer, Norway. It was first shown in 2004-ish and then repeated in 2006 for the Winter Olympics Special.

Anyway, the track that the rally car used can be driven in DiRT 3! I've definetely driven it in Trailblazer; I'm not sure about rally. Anyone else notice?

I noticed when I saw this:

Haven't gotten that far in the game yet though.

Yeah i noticed that straight away when i saw the achievement/trophy and im glad finally someone else has noticed it. I've done the race and it is really good, you use the Mini WRC in the DiRT Tour Event for it. You can take most of it flat out and getting a platinum seems quite tricky at first but after a few goes you soon get it. It's also good that you can actually see the people pushing the bobsleigh at the start and when the 2 tracks meet you can see it racing down! :)

I noticed it when I saw a) the start line and b) the map at the start line. I recognised it instantly. It would be good if someone could find out what the stage is called.

I did wonder if you could bobsleigh yourself, but the TG connection didn't occur. D'oh!

Nice touch.

The name erm you just have to go to one of those speed events and you can either pick DC compound or "Bobsleigh Run" i think that's the name, just that. Not sure on the official name though :S

It's not the exact track, but has a similar feel and idea to TG's. That said when I was doing the trial in Single Player (Time Trial Mode) I struggled to beat the Bobsleigh, not sure how to gain time either. :indiff:

I managed to beat the Bobsleigh after about 8 attempts. I had to blitz the stage to get anywhere near the target time, but I managed to beat it by just under 0.2 seconds.

I think this challenge is actually happening in the upcoming series. There's a trailer just released and features Team GB Bobsleder Amy Williams and a clip on a Mini Countryman with James as a passenger on an ice rally stage by the looks of it.

They've done it before. It was either Hammond or May driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo ... something against a four-man bobsleigh team.

There was a pro rally driver behind the wheel, not a TG presenter. I believe May rode shotgun. It was an Evo VI I believe. It will be cool if they do it again with a Countryman.

Yes, the latest Top Gear trailer for series 17 does show what appears to be the Mini Countryman Rally Car (being driven by Chris Meeke I presume) racing against British Skeleton Bobsleigh racer Amy Williams.

It was Henning Solberg who was driving the Evo Rally Car with James May as the passenger.

Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its bobsled time!

Finally beat this, and it sounds like perfect timing with TG doing a closer version of it next week. Was really hard when I tried it awhile ago, easier after I learned more and played around with the vehicle setup.

Top Gear aired the newest version of this today/yesterday, May did a nice little feature that had a short background on the original Mini Cooper S and the new one.

The mini won by a couple seconds, but apparently Amy Williams said with smooth ice she could have won by five seconds. If and buts were candy and nuts.....hehe
