Thanks to Malc01 I did a superb race in the Epson NSX. The AI cars really were Super GT/JGTC cars + 2 LM cars. It was a nice battle! :)

Glad you had a good race, did you enter at 560PP on RH
What PP / tire changes did you make if any?

I've been ruining a number of tests - various PP and Starting Tire choices.
{all on Race/TC/RM cars - full details to come later}

There is a pattern but I don't yet fully understand it.. :(

Couple of finds though

If you want to run a race vs mainly Rally Cars on SM;

At these entry PP & Starting tire choices you will get 12:
No the magic number, 15 yet :(

485 PP on SH
450 (or 440) PP on RH

for a real challenge
415PP starting on Race Soft Tires.

I downtuned the NSX to 560pp with the power limiter, entered the race with RH tyres, started the race without changing anything. :)

Thanks for the update :)
Glad the race was fun without needing to change anything, if you drop the PP anymore the grid starts doing weird stuff.

Has anyone tested the PP / Tire Combos I listed,
Ive been starting races but not seeing if they have been competitive etc

Maserati Gran Turismo. Spa Francorchamps. 30 laps. One pitstop is required. Enter on Comfort Hard, Medium tires. You will have a field of BMWs, Ferrari F40 '92, Maserati GT, Jaguar XRK and so on. Nice opponents. Then switch to Comfort soft and race. You might not win it, but 3rd place is garanteed.
I was fighting for 3rd position 3 laps chasing XRK.

Well, the Maserati is on the arcade car list so the AI will always be the same even if you max tune it. :)

I highly reccomend you, guys to set the AI agressivety around 4 - 7, this will not make them slower but you would not be slammed by AI in corners or while braking.
Let me remind you that AI strength and cars they use depends on mode you choose before creating a race.
Agressivity is how agressive they are when turning, braking.
Agressivity doesn't slow them down. I have tested LMP field on Le Sarthe, AI driver made even better lap time when it was set to 1. When I changed it to 10 they did a few hundred of second worse.
If you set up you car to be competitive this will be rather enough for a nice race, set AI agressivity to 4-7 and clean race will be garanteed.
Another words, less agressivity means AI driver to become more sensitive which is necessarly for what we are looking for, competitive and clean race in Arcade mode. Good luck!

Good to know, Olegonic, I'll have to give that a try, thought, I've never had a major issue with the AI during braking or cornering.

^ Shem. Do you mean whilst you are in front of them? I don't have much trouble from there.. But I have all sorts of issues when I'm closely following those clowns and they brake way early, gas, coast, gas, brake on turn-exit(!), right in front of me. It's hard to avoid them when you're trying to drive like a racer and they're doing that crap.

Either way, great thread mate! Even made the Weekly Rewind. Proper.

What a great idea! This is an awesome thread. I browsed through the various tracks and decided on Top Gear Test Track, the length of which is 2.82 kms. Upon a quick calculation, i i decided on 71 laps with tyre/fuel depletion, full damage everything. I figured i'd call it the Top Gear 200. I chose one of my favourites, the Buick Special and chose Sports Softs. 3 laps into it and... 1 problem: Where's the pits?!!

I am a fan of the arcade portion of the game. I just wish there was an update so we could earn xp from are great races.

I agree. That's why i'd never bothered with arcade before now. I just considered it a waste of time. This thread is encouraging, but we should still be rewarded by PD for time/effort spent.

XP, credits (cash), mileage on cars and overall profile mileage (which it may be counting in arcade), refresh UCD, etc...

All of these would be very helpful. Sigh... I guess becoming better racing drivers is our only reward for now. :sly:

It would be nice if, like the old GT days, A-Spec points could be gained from Arcade Mode racing.

I would like to see one day....The ability to scare the hell out of AI chasing them down during lap or two and they finally make more mistakes. But it has to depend on AI drivers constancy, of course. Forgive me if I made mistake on word "Constancy".

580 PP Camaro 2010 RM on SS tyres gives a nice SuperGT grid with some slower LM cars on the N24 Nordschleife.

Started the actual race on SHs and was chasing/being chased by a (white) R8 LMS and a Mazda LM (must note the exact model next time) for several laps.

I kept the Camaro stock, also gear ratios, which made me top out on the Döttinger Höhe just shy of 280 km/h and had some very good overtaking on the GP course.

The grid stays the same, just the starting order changes so you might have to restart a couple if times to have the R8 at the front.

Best race in a long time as the Camaro is quite a handful and there's zero room for mistakes, yet enough competitive back markers to keep things interesting. Quite a hoot that car!

Well after around 3 weeks of on and off testing of PP and tire combinations (prob 150ish!)

They change the base PP for a number of cars! Grrrr ;)

Though happy to confirm the "perfect grid" still happens at 560pp on RH :)

haha! never thought of that. Apparently, neither did PD. The area to the right of the start/finish line would be a logical spot to set up some makeshift pits. Must not be a lot of people doing long races in the TGTT or they might've fixed this in an update..

Must look into that! Reran my 580 pp SS race yesterday - grid was unchanged but the faster r8 took off never to be seen. I managed to finish 3rd after 10 laps however. The race was a bit dull compared to my last run, but laps 9 and 10 were quite interesting as I was being chased by two other cars.

But thanks for the info, will try it tonight!

If it turns into an easy run;

re try it entering at 545PP on RM - for the same grid - then switch back to RH

Not really "easy" as such. On my first run the faster R8 was stuck behind the Mazda LM and we made a nice trio for 5 laps until I blew it. And the sun went down too early too. I'm playing in 3D and the shading from the glasses makes night pitch black.

The second time, same cars but different position on the grid, the R8 managed to sneak by from the start and the SuperGT Lexus SC430 was just too much on fresh RH rubber. Finished 3rd, but only just. Was lots of fun the last two laps, only in between a bit dull. Well, dull because no other car in sight. But I prefer SS at most on everything below 600pp. When do we get 128 cars on the grid for the N24? ;)

Have a question - "the faster R8" - what car does this refer too?
If you mean the RX-8 LM - Never really found it to be quicker?...

I tend to run around 21 lap races - mixture of tracks - though im not yet a 'Ring runner

What are you running track and lap wise?

& to be very specific when I say 560pp - i mean the very lowest Power limiter possible to just edge into 560..

All I get are Gt500 cars and the 2 Mazda LMs

There are two Audi R8 LMS on the grid. The coloured one has been always the rabbit, the one in Playstation livery always much slower. And there are two LM cars, though rather slow for a LM spec car.

It seems we get the same grid at 580 PP (me on SS tyres initially) then? Going to check that out, and finally write down a full list of the cars.

Usually I run 10 laps on the N24 Nordschleife or about 29 on Fuji, tough on Fuji I prefer cars >600 PP.

At with my car set 560PP

and

entering the race on race hard tyres - I dont get the 2 Audi LMS Race cars

Just GT500 and the 2 Mazda LM Race cars.. (which are very much in the realm of a GT500 class car)

Yes, that's what I meant. Me at 580PP and SS seems to yield a very similar field as your 560PP and RH tyres. Anyway here's my grid

Motul Autech GT-R '08
CLK Touring Car
RX-7 LM
R8 LMS (that's the rabbit)
Tom's SC430
Xanavi Hiroto GT-R '01
RX-8 Concept LM
Castrol Toms Supra
Takata Dome NSX '06
R8 LMS Playstation
Denso Dunlop Sard SC430
Me
Penzoil Nismo GT-R '99
Woodone GT-R 08
Loctite Zexel GT-R '00
Calsinic Skyline '00

That was a pain to type on a phone ;)

One aspect that helps for a better race is doing a pace lap. The AI seems programmed to take it very easy on cold tires. It's just way too easy to blow past a bunch of cars on lap 1. Generally I'll start in last, letting the 13-16th place cars go past. Plus if the AI is set to 10 and full damage, they get pretty pushy on a tight turn 1 on lap 1.

It's rewarding if you race like you would following typical clean Online Racing Rules. No dive bombing or other questionable pass tactics. Otherwise it's just too easy to push a slow AI off track. I try and make it more interesting by trying to not make any contact at all. It's not for everyone, I just like to drive that way for the challenge.

Running Custom tracks is good too to get out of the rut. Been running ANNIHILATOR50's tracks the last couple days. Using a stock premium Honda NSX street car CS or SH tires no ABS with 75kg ballast.

What you said and not wanting to finish 1st. I had far better races fighting for places 4 to 7 than going for a win. Most times there's a nice train further down the grid and damage set to high keeps one from playing dirty.

What I found a lot of fun is racing FGT's at Nurburgring GP/F. Very agressive AI, plus some drivers sometimes go off at the Schumacher Esses causing crashes which look quite realistic and are fun to try and dodge. I suggest downtuning your car a bit for better battles. ;)
