Touring type cars on short to medium tracks can be some good racing. Used an Evo IX RM bone stock at Cape Ring South and Nurb GP/F. Ran SM and SH tires. 15-20 laps. No aids and I'm just learning ABS 0. Set up race with SM tires that way you get race cars not street cars. Mixed up fields for sure with TC'S, Rally cars, Tuners and SEMA's too!

Had a great race at the Nurb that way. Passed 5-6 cars then got stuck behind a slower moving Subie Rally car with a Renault Trophy Car trailing him. Passed both then the Renault outbraked me after drafting down the straight. Running without brake assists made for some braking errors and I never made up any ground. Finished 5th about 20 seconds behind a front runner S2K race car. But it was great trying to run down the Renault much like trying to run down a friend online that you just can't catch!

Twin Ring Motegi 35 laps
Calsonic GT-R '08 - new, no oil change, stock w/90 kilos ballast, BB 3/2, RH, 583pp
No aids, no ABS, heavy damage, tire wear, cockpit view, shifter on left (US of A  )
Full field of premium GT500 cars (8 GT-Rs:odd:)
AIs set to Pro(A) 10
Notes:
Margin of victory was 1.5 seconds.
Racing was always close; had to maintain concentration.
It was not a rabbit race. 3 GT-Rs were together for about 8 laps before one got dropped. About lap 15, the car running 2nd passed and dropped the other car. I was no more than 9 seconds back.
My best lap was 1:54.447.
2nd place was an Advan Clarion GT-R w/ 1:54.127
35 laps can be done with no pit stops. It does get interesting.
No tire, pp manipulation required.

I tried Fuji , Suzuka and Spa with this recipe but they require more ballast. I only did a few laps of each to get a feel of them.

Protip: Get a small desk fan and place it beside your PS3. :)
Even better: If you lay your PS3 on it's side you can plug a laptop cooling thingy into one of the USB ports. I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the largest reasons that my fatty hasn't died.

I've had some fun races with low hp race cars. Setting up with 400-450 pp on Race Hards so you get a race car field. Switching to Sports tires. Using Toscano Touge style tracks night/day settings. Hud off and cockpit view. You lose track of where you are in the field or your lap. Just driving in the moment.

Thanks again for starting this thread, I had never set up a decent Arcade race before seeing this. It really shows how GT5 is a game that needs a self starter attitude to get the most out of. If more folks would race in Arcade, they could get out of the chase the rabbit Aspec rut. Be great if this could be a sticky with a list of race possibilities and ways to set up a competitive field.

The important thing is keeping this thread alive! :)

It IS alive as long as it's being viewed.
I've been racing in Arcade mode for good half a year. Forgot when I was in GT-Life.
My new possession is hotlaping on Nurb, using CS tires only, NO ABS, grip -real, No Assists to compare/match real lap times.
For example, HONDA NSX-R, stock, no oil change, CS tires - lap time 7.56.xxx it is even better than real life because we have to go additional 200 meters. When he hit the finish line on video at 7.56.xxx, at the same place I have 1.52.xxx.

I've found that the Toyota GT86, or whatever the free bonus car was, brings up a good selection of opponents.

The last race I had with it was 28 laps of High Speed Ring and 10 of Le Mans and every minute was pure racing.

This thread is great:tup:
Been using the track creator combined with arcade. Bone stock premium Lotus Esprit on SS tires brought up some good opponents and no rabbit. Enjoyed learning a new track and trying to claw my way through the field!

This! I've used ANNIHILATOR90's tracks that are featured in the latest edition of Weekly Rewind. Been using some underutilized cars: RM editions like the EK Civic, Silvia, Acura NSX and Evo 9. All stock with added ballast. No aids. Sports tires, seems like I set up on SS then drove on SM's. You get some mixed up fields for sure on different compounds. Running unfamiliar tracks is a nice way to mix it up especially when they're so well designed.

I found my love for the Fuji track after watching this year's WEC and SuperGT races, and there's some good races to be found there. Tried the Viper ACR, the Honda S2000 and the Jag 220 LM. At least one if not two AI can catch up on the main straight and it should make for some good races that evolve over a couple of laps.

Should be even better on the layout missing the chicane.
I'll report back when I found some golden tyre/ballast combos. Btw I run all cars stock, so with tuned cars the mileage will vary considerably.

Anyone know if there's a way to do SuperGT in Arcade while using a car from my favorites? I want to use my ARTA NSX but it gives me all sorts of random opponents. The only way I get all SuperGT cars is by using Arcade version and those of course don't allow for any tuning (was going to add my body weight as ballast)

I've run some good races with the Premium NSX's. Not sure about Standards. Best to setup the race with stock power and RH's. That should give you a full GT field. For whatever reason, when your car is tuned higher than stock and/or with grippier tires you get those weird fields. I've run them on SS tires with 75-90 kg ballast for closer races. Fully stock cars seem to be a key to getting the best lineups.

Another thing that works is using the first lap as a parade lap otherwise it's just too easy to blow by the AI on lap 1. Usually I'll lay back and start in last to avoid the turn 1 AI carnage-especially with heavy damage on.

Edit: You're right. Just tried different set ups for a premium NSX on Motegi and Fuji. Got mixed fields with both SS and RH's. That's weird, I could have sworn I'd had a complete GT500 field before on Fuji. I think I used the premium 97 Castrol Supra on RH's.

The only ones I've found to work with a full SuperGT line up are the Epson NSX and the Impul GTR, if I remember correctly. This is a bit of a nuisance as I too would like to race more SuperGTs in a full grid of them but using any other SuperGT car will bring a mixed grid of race cars from different classes unfortunately.

Tips for making the race a bit more difficult: ABS 0, as is done with real life SuperGT races. Add a ballast of your weight. Play fair; don't cut corners or make dangerous manoeuvres. Try to incorporate a pit stop bringing tyre wear a fuel depletion into the race.

Thanks guys. In response to ncrthree, the ARTA NSX I was using was stock all around, the only discrepancy is the slightly higher HP since I used it to run the Suzuka 1000km endurance race. I had tried limiting the engine power back down to 493 and added 100kg ballast and same result though.

I already run with all aids turned off and ABS 0 at all times, even on cars that would have ABS in real life. It's more fun for me and I think it's been explained elsewhere on this forum that the ABS in game is a handicap that doesn't simulate how actual ABS works.

I did 18 laps at the Motegi road course using the arcade Tom's Castrol Supra 97' with the mentioned settings as well as playing fair/safe, tired/fuel on, heavy damage and AI on 10. I was easily in 1st by lap 9 though and then the AI couldn't keep up, even after I got distracted and overshot my breaking points twice putting me in the sand both times.

I did notice while I was working my way through traffic that twice when overtaking the AI they still didn't want to give up the inside line and turned right in to me, and to be clear I was being very generous and only passing when I thought there would/should be zero risk.

On a side note: I tried using a very mildly tuned premium Nissan 300ZX (only suspension and exhaust) and it kept giving me AI driving all sorts of supercars... Ferrari's and other exotics. All road cars at least but I just couldn't keep up. I tried entering using SS, then SM, then SH tires but got the same results each time. :(

It is hit and miss. Not all combos produce a good race, sometimes the cars and track don't match up well.

Well the SuperGT race I did was a lot of fun at least and now I know how to fiddle with the game to get a better racing offline. :)

I used to occasionally play arcade, but my biggest problem was that I picked up so many bad habits trying not to rear end the AI while driving in a pack. The way forward for me is definitely collecting a group of like-minded friends for serious racing thrills and unfortunately the only real way to do that is dive, shoulder-barge and bump through online lobbies to find them. =/

Serjury

I have found if you set any race car (or RM Car) to 560 PP and race hard tires
you get a very constant grid of Super GT cars (plus the 2 Mazda RX LM cars)

You can then apply any setup switch you wish.

Does anyone else know of any good values for PP that generate constant grids??

That is really useful information. I'll be giving this a go soon. Cheers. 👍

Works every time!

Depending on the amount of PP you have, there are different types of LMPs to race:

670PP: Newer open-cockpit LMPs
680PP: Open-Cockpits & Group C (50 / 50)
690PP: Open-Cockpits & Group C (25 / 75)
700PP: Group C
710PP: Group C & Escudos/7s (90 / 10)

I copied the above settings from MasterSquid4 in the link. It was in the Race Reports thread. I haven't tried any races yet to confirm.

Thanks for posting up the Super GT setting Malc01. Funny, I set up a race with a '10 Camaro RM on SM's fully stock and it gave me an almost full GT500 field. Meant to post up the PP here but didn't remember to write it down, doh.

Glad your liking the GT500 set up

My real challenge was to get grids with one tire choice (or maybe 2) for a realistic race.

Would love to know if you can find a sweet spot for

1) GT300 type cars
2) Rally cars that always run on SM tires on the tarmac tracks
3) or some combo of the above ;)

Ill have a test of the LMP stuff
but as you see on MasterSquids thread I' m at GT & touring cars fan

I've updated the OP with some of the new tricks for forcing a race the way it's wanted. 👍

Woot :) Made it to the OP ;)

Thanks W3HS

I'm testing a number of different combos - aiming for great grids like the GT500 one.

Can you and others test this one;

Race car (or RM?) 485 PP on Sports Hard Tires

I'm getting 12 Rally cars running Sports Mediums - including the Group B monsters ;)
[The Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 and the Renault R5 Maxi Turbo - Very Very Quick Cars!]

Let me know if it works out for you too :)

Just want to thank the OP, this is one of the best treads I have read in a long time, been playing most days since release until the last few months where the Seasonals seem like a chore, do the race, tick the box get the gold.
Now I am back behind the wheel and enjoying some great racing as it should be, as said you still have to tweak a little but when you get it right it's a lot of fun.
Have followed the guidlines in this tread and it works great, will definately post some of my races as I experiment & find some good combos, thanks again !!

Merc SLS AMG, Comfort soft tires. You will get full pack of supercars on Sport hard tires. Add some ballast and I bet the race will be interesting.
P.S.: Useless to say AI strength-10, Pro mode, Assists+Abs off. No oil change, no tuned.

Same thing happens with the Toyota GT86 or whatever it is. Full grid of high end GT cars. Great fun. I used SH though because I was running 30 something laps at HSR.

Comfort Medium is a MAX spec of tires wich GT86 can be equipped with. Try them.

I had a pretty hardcore race and still came in second after 30 laps while running SH tyres. Would it even last an hour at steady pace on CM?

I'll give it a try when I can, but still think the set up I had worked well, and I wasn't holding back; an hour of near perfect racing lines, braking and cornering and shifting still left me only a second ahead of 3rd place.
