Have you maxed all the settings out? It looks basically perfect on my PC, which is 2 year old hardware that wasn't top end 2 years ago. It runs perfectly smoothly. It looks much better than GT7 to me, and I'm not talking about the difference in contrast.

Resolution resets to Native whenever you load into a track (yep a bug), you need to set your required resolution from the pit-lane and it will stick with that until you load into a new location.
yes I did that already, it seems the game run better on windowed mode for whatever reason. here's a clip of me changing settings in game and the FPS that I got.

how did you find out it was stuck in 4k?
It's very possible. What are your system specs? I'm running a 4090 / 13900k combo. I'm also not running in 4k. I'm running 3 - 1440p 180Hz monitors. I'm not using any dynamic scaling features (native resolution only).
First of all, there is no interruption of the image when I try to change from 4K to 1080p. But also, when I check the settings of my monitor, it tells me the signal coming in is 4K.
On Windows, change your display settings display resolution to what you want the game to run, then load up the game and it should work at the correct resolution you want then.

Same for Asetek. On Discord they say they are working on it and will probably be done by Monday or thereabouts.
They've said that the price may increase as the game gets more added, so unless someone intends to never buy it, by buying it now, you get the full release more cheaply, and you get to try it out early. And I agree, Kunos' track record to date is a big factor, I wouldn't have bought a new game from an unknown studio on the same basis. They've been in this business for a considerable time and I think they care about their reputation, it's very unlikely the game won't be brought up to a decent standard by 1.0.
One thing I saw recently was some data that said frame rate 1% lows have improved from generation to generation more than average frame rates, so it might be that it runs best on 40 series cards. We're very close to 50 series release, and I'd expect a 5070 to run the game very nicely at 1440p. On a 4080, the game runs far better for me than Forza Motorsport does, in terms of absence of stutters.
That might be DLSS. DLSS Performance produces flickering that is absent with DLSS Quality, for example. Based on the Digital Foundry video (which I watched at the time, but can't find now because they release so many videos!), the new Nvidia transformer model that arrives on 30th Jan should give a very noticeable improvement in DLSS image quality.
