I was luke-warm on this game, but today it may have convinced me that this is shaping up to be something incredible. FM23 had an update yesterday, and my PC is having problems with it, so I decided to see what other titles I can get into. I had ACEVO on the back burner since t it launched into the Early Access program but, I never really gave it much of a chance. When I tried it, I was met with all kinds of performance issues, like having to change my resolution from 5870 x 1080, to anything and then back to 5870 x 1080 just to get an image to show on screen. Then the game didn't like my GPU because, it did its best to give me a slide show, no mattet what settings I changed. So, I sidelined it for a game that mostly worked. Funny how the roles have reversed when it comes to ACEVO and FM23's current state of performance.
So, today I started finishing up licenses, and I did a quick 10 lapper at Laguna in a one make Golf GTI race. First off, setting a single spec race up in Forza takes an act of God. All the cars will be different, no matter how tight you clamp the P.I. or jostle the settings. All the cars will not be exactly the same specs. ACEVO, its just a toggle on the bottom of the race setup screen.
Then I got into the race. I couldn't have been happier with the handling, and the A.I. Granted the A.I. isn't the best ever, but its a heck of a lot better than whats on offer on FM23. I wasn't torpedoed or shoved off the track.
Then the track limits, act like track limits. Its a level of sobriety that I wish was in FM. In FM you can have 2 in the dirt, and as long as a piece of 2 tires are on the outer edge of a rumble strip, it flies. ACEVO you cannot go outside of the white line. Yup... Sobriety!
I don't know if they updated the physics, but the GTI felt amazing. It was responsive, well mannered, tossable and a joy to drive. Its going to be hard going back to FM.
Kunoz is cooking with this game. Its going to be my main racing title once its fleshed out a little more. I'm really looking forward to it.
