If you have patience for the sales it’s €330,- for the Pico4 and €450,- for the Quest3, compare to those two, still think it’s a lot of money for the Pimax. But at least they show they are a stayer in the VR headset scene. Something you cannot say for all those WMR headsets, Star and HTC.
BTW has the service of Pimax been improving, as there was a couple of years ago lots of complains on an certain flysim forum.

But Pico 4 and Quest 3 have crappy compressed video over USB, whereas the Crystal Light has proper lossless video over DP. I found this to be an unacceptable compromise with the Quest 2 for seated sim racing in PCVR, the way the road ahead was a mushy 8-bit mess was enough to make me stick with my prehistoric Rift.
If the Pico 4 had DP I'd already have one.

@Masscot , Is this also happened to the Q3 because this does have the USB 3.2 gen2 version, while the Pico and Q2 are hooked to an older USB standard. For the rest I do not read about that limitation on the Q3 at a race sim forum from the Netherlands, only a discussion on what is the best Wifi6 or the cable.
My WMR headset can be used until the end of 2025 when the Win10 support is stopped, seems in Win11 this WMR is already being removed??? Who knows by that time the Pico5 is releasing, the whole Pimax is too expensive for me, I preferably will go for a better Vcard.

I'm also sticking to Quest3 for now, and saving my money for a 5080 card or 5070Ti or the likes...

Question: what does this "Mirror texture" option do in Assetto Corsa Video Settings?

I do not see any noticeable difference, but I don't know what to look for ...

Doesn't that just mean that your HMD display is mirrored to your monitor?

that's it indeed! I never guessed it since the word texture threw me off... anyway, and now I know why sometimes I don't have my in-game screenshots working :)
Thanks!!

Hi,

as someone always looking for the best visual clarity (but on a budget),
I'm using a Quest3 atm , and have achieved amazing visual quality now (real game changer compared to my previous settings !)

If you have a Quest3 (or 2 for that matter) give these settings a try!

Here's the main things I set :
1) Meta Link set to highest resolution and on 72Hz mode (EDIT: you can try 80 as well , but then in step 3 set Pixels per display to 1.8 instead of 2.0 to compensate - if you do get Application Frame Drops -> check w Oculus Debug Tool - Performance graph turned on)

2) in Oculus Debug tool setting FOV Tangent-multiplier to 0.7; 0.4 , giving a huge GPU headroom saving! (MUST DO in order to do this)
and always turn Asynchronous Spacewarp off !

3) in AC Video settings I'm using Oculus Rift rendering and have Oculus pixels per display set to 2 (have a 3070Ti, if you have lower try lowering this if you have not enough headroom, if you have a higher GPU make this 2.5)
PP , Anisotropic filtering and MSAA turned off.
set Mip LOD-bias to -1.75 (or somewhere between -1 and -2 as for prefference - you can change it in-game w the graphics app and see immediate effect. Too much negative bias results in more shimmer, but gives a sharper image.)

EDIT : here you can download my video settings if you want to try them

4) Turned off CSP Weather FX , to use the vanilla weather implementation
(this removes for me micro-stutters that I always had before when using Pure or SOL, almost no more application frame drops which I think were the measure for the stutters)

EDIT : here you can download my CSP settings if you want to try them

So with my 3070Ti I'm able to get the absolute most out of the Quest3 like this and still have +- 50 percent headroom and most important no application frame drops (thus no micro-stutters perceived), while having a very nice image quality and details.

ps: I must say , turning off PP effects does tend to leave you not seeing the brake lights on some car mods, but it is fine on others...

Do please publish your CM preset settings from video and CSP. What are your Nvidia Control panel adjustments?
PPfilter is indeed a troublesome thing same as who needs SOL/Pure as you are only a nice weather driver.
LOD bias to negative does give me instant shimmering and I’m allergic to shimmer/jaggies. 🤮
For users facing performance issues, could also experiment with lowering shadows, reflections, smoke en mirrors.

I've added them in the original post ...

Anyone here interested in the Pimax Crystal Light? Starting to think it might be time to upgrade my trusty old Rifts.

Yes. Just ordered the Pimax Crystal Light with Local dimming to replace my G2
Excellent. Any idea when delivery will be? (I'm not even sure when shipping officially starts).
Please share a comprehensive review once you are up and running.

Also, what was the total paid in GBP, including any delivery, taxes etc?
Thanks.

Hi. Pimax Crystal Light with local dimming and controllers was about £905.00. I ordered the controllers as it will be easier to sell at a later date. The pre order shipping for the local dimming version is now open and is about 5 weeks . I’m tracking so if it changes I will let you know. The sooner the order is placed the sooner you will get one.

hi! I was also looking into that one, but then again , with 'only' a 3070ti , I think I'm already stretching it to the max with the Quest3 at it's full resolution... (and it looks amazing already).
But from a Rift S I think I would upgrade already (since the resolution on that one is way less then the Quest3).

I do think it's a bit risky to pre-order ... (although some VR channels already have got early models and review them in positive way),
think still better to wait till they are actually sold and being reviewed on youtube by the masses.

ps : also since the controllers are being sold seperatly , and they seem copies of the Quest3 controllers, I will wait to see if someone can get the actual Quest3 controllers to pair with the Crystal Light...

Which will be better choice then (PSVR2 or Crystal Light) ?

The resolution on Crystal ( 2880 x 2880 resolution per eye) is higher then the PSVR2 ( 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye)...

I use Oculus debug tool to set FOV in order to be able to obtain best Quest 3 graphics settings possible with only a 3070Ti, and it looks amazing!
If the PSVR2 will not have that FOV trick up it's sleave , it might be a step back...
Anyway I hope the adapter will be available soon so we can find out!

Yes, lots of things to consider... and we don't even know how well PSVR2 will work on a PC... if at all. Plus, we have no proper consumer reviews of the CL either.
Got a feeling I'll have one or the other by the end of the year though.
The reduced resolution of PSVR2 doesn't really worry me as my 4080 probably couldn't run the CL at full resolution anyway... and either of them will be a huge step up from the Oculus Rift CV1.
I am very much enjoying being able to race 40+ car grids at night in the rain with max settings at a rock-solid 90fps though. It's nice knowing that the graphics won't stutter no matter what I throw at them. That'll all change with a higher-resolution headset.

Hi. Yes the rift cv1 was a good headset. I went to the rift s after that then onto a G2 that’s when I went from a nv1080 to a 4090 to run my G2. Hoping I can get the performance from the Crystal light without having to cut things back to much.

OLED is great I know that from my Odyssey plus, but fresnel lenses no.
Ah yes, forgot about those.
Shame, as you can get barely-used PSVR2 headsets for around £200 from console owners with buyer's remorse due to lack of decent PS5 VR games, so assuming the PC adapter dongle will be ~£50, the PSVR2 could be a very cheap option.
Having said that, if you don't race much at night then fresnel isn't a huge issue.
I do sometimes race at night (in the rain even) in my fresnel CV1 and I can't say that glare or mura has ever bothered me that much.

If you do not know better, then why bother. :D
For me the closing of WMR by Microsoft, could be also a starting point for me to get a Q3, Pico4 or PSVR2. The only VR hardware that are not on that price range my wife seems to have problems with. 😎

Wow, Crystal Light is getting some really great reviews. Looks like Pimax might have finally sorted their shizzle out.

Just to confirm, was that the absolute total or are you expecting additional ~25% for VAT and import duty?

Think I will first invest in upgrading my 3070ti , and only then (and if the wife still permits it) will I upgrade to the latest and greatest headset (maybe it'll be the Crystal Light , maybe there will be something even better by then 🤷‍♂️)
On the 3070ti I can only push the Quest3 to smooth 80hz visuals (w FOV 0.7; 0.4 and without PP effects) , so I doubt updating the headset first is the best idea. (esp not knowing if the FOV trick can be applied to it - if not I sure don't have the GPU power to get the image as good as in the Quest3).

This brings me to a question for you all : is NVIDIA still the best way to go for AC with VR (or VR in general)? And if so, why?

(I remember when I bought my first PCVR game pc (w 2070s at that time), it was overall recommended to go team NVIDIA for VR, so I did...
But I don't remember the actual reasons behind it... and wonder for next gen cards is this reason still gonna be there?
I'd like to know if the Radeon RX 8000 series be a good upgrade for my 3070ti as well (as it may launch sooner then NVIDIA's 5 series and be less pricy as well).
