Dear GTPlanet members,

a few weeks ago, I got the chance to attend the Assetto Corsa launch event for the console version in Vallelunga. Here's our interview with Marco Massarutto from Kunos Simulazioni talking about the console version, delay of the launch, drifting and virtual reality.

In addition to that, we asked Aris, who is in charge of the physics model and the user interface (UI), about the new UI on the console version and if the UI of the PC version will be adapted to it as well. Furthermore, he indicated that there will be "suprising news very soon" regarding upcoming Formula 1 models in Assetto Corsa. Aris also explains, how they managed to reduce motion sicknes with VR.

Read more about the event the interview on my blog. Please scroll down for the English version. ;)

If you have more questions to the Assetto Corsa developer team, make sure to post them here and I'll try to get an answer from the Kunos Simulazioni team as soon as I see them again. :)

Enjoy and cheers,

Kevin

Watched this yesterday and was impressed. Good work! Subtitles were a nice added touch for those that have trouble with accents and because of the background voices kind of muddling things a bit.

Still, Assetto Corsa is one of the few racing sims that since the beginning provided a simple click option for “lock onboard camera to horizon”. This systems feature seems to help a lot with motion sickness in virtual reality.” He also referred to an article about this by a company that helps real drivers to develop their driving skills. Make sure to check out the link on Paradigm Shift, it’s an interesting read!

Simbin's GTR2 had this feature as well, way back in 2006. It's called "World Movement" though:

I'm kinda annoyed as well that some things have to be delayed to match the console release (FXX K, VR support). I mean they are a small team so it's always going to happen, but the initial promise was things for console and PC will keep moving forward at the same rate. They hired 505 Games specifically to deal with the console porting so the core team should be able to continue whatever work they were doing.

The news about F1 is interesting though. I bet it's gonna be Ferrari's current F1 car (or a few years old), as the F1 license is still held by Codemasters and there's no way they can get the other's (Lotus is a stretch). I'm already surprised by how many F1 cars there are in AC (60s, 70s, 80s, and Exos). Personally I'd like to see some 50s and pre-war machinery :D Haven't had many of those in sims.

Thank you for the link from GTR 2. That's really interesting! As far as I know, 505 Games is the publisher of the console version of Assetto Corsa, handling distribution, marketing and PR and not directly involved in the developed of the game. The team at Kunos Simulazioni encompasses about 30 people, however, the core team consists of 10 members. The porting of the game is also done by Kunos Simulazioni.

Just found this interview yesterday after taking the Oculus for a test run Saturday. Everything looked great and no motion sickness for me, and I'm easily affected. It's good news that VR is coming to AC soon. The bad news for me was at least a 970 graphics card is required. I see a computer build in my future.

Thanks for the interview mate !

Just one thing... Massarutto says that he can play for "HALF HOUR" with any kind of problem, not "HOURS"
 is this VR sickness so hard to deal with ?

Depends on the person, some are more susceptible to it than others. But apparently recent updates have made it much more tolerable even to people who have the motion issues.
