Since I've started using Content Manager I don't even see the car preview photos anymore. :D But even when I did I never really cared about what they looked like, in fact I might actually prefer them to look different than Kunos so I'd know they were mod cars at a glance. Eh, sounds like a cool improvement for those who enjoy it though, that dude is always making great improvements to CM. 👍
Yeah...He's always doing something crazy with CM. I had to post a request to him this morning. I just realized that you can disable cars and tracks. All that does is it creates a new folder in your assettocorsa\content\ directory called \tracks-off or \cars-off and moves whatever you're disabling into the appropriate folder. I can see various reasons this could be handy -- for me it is a godsend because once you hit a certain amount of cars in your \content\cars folder the game refuses to start. It just hangs when you try starting. I know because it happened to me twice last week. :( :embarrassed:

So, I thought my troubles were over, I wouldn't have to manually move cars - cars I'd probably forget about if it weren't for CM and this new feature. The problem is, I don't actually keep my vehicles in content\cars\ because I'm a hoarder and my C:\ wouldn't have enough space. So, I had to make a symbolic link on my D:\ drive. Unfortunately, this causes a problem when trying to disable cars.

Knowing @x4fab he'll probably have a fix 5 minutes after he gets reads my post. He's a programming machine. 👍

Silly me. I forgot to show a picture of that new Content Manager Showroom. You have total free camera movements as well. Personally, I don't think I'll be using this -- although, @BrandonW77 you said something I found interesting. Maybe I'll stop using the Kunos Preview view for mod cars and switch to something like this for mod vehicles. I'll tell ya...Well built mod cars like the Porsche 911 below look gorgeous when inspecting in this view...especially if you throw a 4K skin on. I typically stick with 2K - but I did download a couple of 4k skins.

@ALB123, I still think it wouldn't hurt for them to at least say something regarding the car making the cut or not.

They showed they're capable of such with the 911 RSR, it was going to be late - "hey guys, heads up...", can't be much harder for them to go "hey guys, quick statement...", can it?

I've already been through the silent treatment with PD, I don't want the same happening again. :sly:

Yeah...I see what you mean. I don't think they'll ever be totally transparent when it comes to releases, but it would be good to know if they're still planning on certain releases that they've advertised. I do agree with you there. 👍

EDIT: Oops. Has Kunos given any hint of when the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is coming?

When I mentioned the new Content Manager Showroom, I should have realized there was more to it than just a typical "look at my purrrrty car!" view. Let's say that I look at my Diablo SV in the new CM Showroom. In addition to all the typical zoom, rotate, pan, activate lights, doors, etc... if you click a part of the car it is going to outline the part of the 3D model that comprises what you've clicked. In the imagine below I clicked on the passenger door:

feAUnAk.png

See in the box labeled "Tools" it tells you the name of the object in that 3D model. You can click on the names and stuff for even more information. Well, do you see those sub-listings under the category "Textures"? Those are the various bitmaps that the game engine uses to apply to this part of the car I've selected. What's so cool about that, you ask?

I'm going to switch to selecting the car's rim, just to make this easier for me to explain. See the white outline around the object I clicked on?

ulXv8Qt.png

Do you see in the Textures category it lists txDiffuse? There is a file called wheel_lod0.dds that graphically maps to the Lambo's rim when visible in the game engine. If you click those three dots "..." it's going to actually show you what's in that particular 'wheel_lod0.dds" file, as shown below:
SkbyEMC.png

That's it. That's all that was made in Photoshop to give the rim the appearance it has. The bull is on the center cap. You can see the front view of the lugnuts and even a small section of rivets that just get repeated around the rim to give it its style.

Click on the View Mapping button and this will pop-up:
mQiIpnB.png

See the little icon of a 3.5" floppy in the lower-right corner? You can export this mapping as a jpg/png/tif whatever you want. Now you could go into Photoshop and make your own rims using this mapping as a template for the different individual pieces that get stored onto one .dds file. You need to install the free nVidia .dds plugin to open & save .dds files, of course.

Photoshop .dds plugin: https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop

Gimp .dds plugin: http://registry.gimp.org/node/70

Anyway, I thought this was pretty cool. Good ole' x4fab! :D

EDIT: I should add that I just stumbled upon this when I clicked on part of the car. That was about 10 minutes before I made this post, so if there are any inaccuracies, please don't shoot the messenger. :nervous:

Pretty cool, @ALB123. And you should move this to the PC Mod thread maybe. :)

I'm a bit late to the Porsche party. Been away from AC for a while. But boy oh boy was I in for a treat. My favorites so far:
1. 917 K
2. 962C Short Tail
3. 911 R
4. 919 2016

Apparently I have a sweet spot for old H-shifter cars. The 917 K was just incredible for me. So much fun. And that sound!

I hear you. I love the older cars in Assetto Corsa. I can't stand the fact that I don't have an H-shifter. Shifting with the "paddles" on my DFGT seems sacrilegious. It probably doesn't really translate to controller users, but the FFB feels fantastic on these older rides. You really feel the sway of the car.

The modern cars and especially some of the modern road Porsches are lovely with the H pattern. Like the Carrera and GT4 road car. Especially the DTM Alfa Romeo and BMW M3 E30.
:banghead: I want to drive them ALL with an H Pattern stick. :grumpy: :(

What is it with Americans and Manual gears? I've driven them for every mile I've ever driven a car in my life. I couldn't care less about them in a sim. Too much like work.

According to Google, only 3.9% of cars in America are manual transmissions. They're fairly rare over here, I've met lots of people who can't drive one and a lot of car models you can't even get in manual or are very hard to find. The one good thing is that a lot of car thiefs apparently can't drive them either.

I'd like to get a stick-shift for a sim for use on cars that actually came with manual transmissions. You know, to be a little more accurate with the car we're trying to simulate.

Ahem.... mm... Where can i find this Diablo for AC on PC? :D

@Kobhalt - It's still a work in progress. I've got a lot of it ready to go, but there are still certain performance characteristics that I'm trying to make more realistic. I enabled brake temperatures/brake fade as well and a lot of those parameters are still a little tricky for me to get right. I think I'm there, but it still requires so testing and tweaking. As soon as I'm satisfied, I will definitely post it for you to download. 👍

I thought you were going to appreciate that fix. I know you've been unable to sleep at night, tossing and turning over the incorrect pitch of the La Ferrari coasting sounds. Hopefully the night terrors will finally end! ;) :D

I know we laugh, but at least we know the KS sound guys really care about their work and improving it. I totally respect what Fonsecker and the other big name sound mod guys are doing, but I've always been happy using the stock car sounds.

What do you guys think about the v10 tires now that they're on every Kunos car? I've been driving the Lotus cars a lot lately and I'm finding them to be more enjoyable now. The front tires are more responsive and I'm getting more force feedback telling me what's going on. You really feel it when you're just starting to go over the limit of lateral grip.

@Orayani - I used to care about terms like that and I still probably do still use them from time to time (old habits...) but most of that crap is just fanboy chest beating. There isn't a single "sim" that truly reproduces 100% of real world physics. There's just too many variables involved in the real world. Now, there are some of these games - that's what they are, games - that are more focused on "realism" than "fun". After that, it's all a matter of personal opinion. Sure, there are some things you can actually measure, but a heck of a lot of it is opinion.

I keep reading about that. So many saying Assetto Corsa is a simcade game while iRacing they say is full sim.
Fear from iracing fan boys, then again if i paid £14 for one Porsche which could buy you 20 in AC I'd be trying to call every other game arcade whilst my sim of choice which is fleecing me is the only real sim.

I did fancy iRacing once years ago until I seen all the purchasing for cars and each track when you could put all that money towards hardware. Oh and the stupidity doesn't end there. If they update the car to new specs for a series, the car you previously bought cannot be raced online. So you've wasted your money. You want to race online with the newer car against other people, buy that car again.

Something feels very special and addictive about Assetto Corsa though.

Really? On top of that they already charge as much for one asset as for entire packs in other games? :odd:

I think iRacing is fantastic. If you're into straight up virtual racing and you're looking for a well organized platform with as little trolling as possible, I'd say iRacing is your best bet. You're going to pay dearly for those luxuries however. But, if you don't mind sticking to certain series and don't mind staying with 1 car, besides whatever rookie type of car you need to build up your iRating or however they do it, it's not the worst thing in the world to pay a monthly fee.

For myself it would be a ridiculous waste of money because I can go months without "racing", but I like driving every day. Also, I know that there are some trolls on iRacing who will intentionally take you out because they blame you for a wreck in last week's race. Percentage of trolls to users must still be the lowest among the sims, I would think. Although, maybe not. The 35 people who are still playing rF2 probably all get along. :D :P That was a cheap dig at rF2. I know they have a decent, active fanbase. I'm immature...sue me. :)
