If you don't mind, I have a few questions, as I am also thinking in upgrading from my CV1 to a Quest2.
  1. Are you 100% driving in VR?
  2. From the reading I have done, when using Oculus link, their is compression and latency occurring, making Quest 2 not such a great option if your are only going to use it as PCVR. Did you ever use any other VR goggles beside your quest?
yep 100% VR, I haven't played a driving game in 2D since I owned an HMD (2014/5 I think)

I had a DK2
I still have a CV1
I never had the feeling that latency was going to be a problem (2070 Super + Ryzen 3600)

I would watch both these videos before deciding what you want. While I might be interested in a Quest 2 for clients to use to look at my work in VR because it's cheaper (price, construction), lighter, has wireless options, I am waiting for the HP Reverb 2 for my own use. For rigorous long-term use, better image and build quality, the Reverb 2 looks like the better option for me. I'm not buying one now, as I'm waiting for hardware and driver optimization, and availability of everything.

Thanks for the links. I am still steering towards getting the HP Reverb G2 when it becomes wildly available-(in stock) as a possible next VR headset. Currently have the Rift S and does what I need so far. HP has better lens quality-hi Res. I really dont need the mobility of a Quest 2 since all I do is sitting Racing/Simulation games. take care.

tested it.. it has no AI and no GrassFX.
Something wrong with the files or versions?
It was meant as update, so my archive just contained updated files. ;)
Updated and fixed, tweaked some things ...
Just extract that files in old track folder. :)

But nevertheless something went wrong with that grass, sorry. :(
@__EASY__ contacted me and I gave him the fixed config. He will surely post a new version soon. :)

... I said, "Honey, I think I'm gonna wanna get the Oculus Quest 2 for Christmas this year." She didn't even blink... so she's either good with it or she didn't hear me. Anyone using this for AC?
Yes and it's awesome, but Link doesn't work in 90fps yet, still waiting for the patch.

Awesome info!

For those above not made that I have converted source to FBX for:
Momiji Line
Happogahara
Hakone/Nanamagari

Others not listed:
Akina Lake (also Akina/snow)
Myogi Circuit (also Myogi)
Tsuchisaka Snow
Tsukuba Snow
Usui (Circuit Early)

Source 3D is complete and fairly mod friendly with arbitrary mesh names, but all material assigned. Trees need to be added to most, tree model is included. If anyone is serious to help convert any of these just PM me.

note: these are FRESH source pulls from original IDAS ZERO game sources

Akina from ID has been converted. But not as good as the last two, Tsukuba FL and Sadamine. The guys behind Gunsai and Iroha is working on their version of Harua (Akina) but haven't seen updates for it for a long time. I'm waiting for a proper Akagi and Hakone Turnpike. Love the Hakone Turnpike a lot! It would be awesome if they have merge Tsubaki line and Hakone Turnpike into one massive route.

I got one on launch day this week and I've been using it wirelessly with AC and it's phenomenal. Such an upgrade over the Rift S.

Great example of why AO is a necessity not an option, or should be anyway
Yep AO can change the car drastically the original car looked pretty much like an Hot wheels toy with AO it pretty much looks like the real thing even though the 3D model is a bit old it almost looks like the real thing the shadows and the shading of the ambient occlusion can really change the car drastically.

I have been driving 100% in VR for the past few years and have had the original Rift CV1, the Rift S, and the Samsung Odyssey Plus previous to my new Quest 2. With traditional PC VR headsets they make 2 connections to the PC. One is USB and is used for transmitting the head and controller motion and input to the PC. the other is either HDMI or Displayport to send the video to the headset. The standalone headsets when tethered to a PC work a little differently. Instead of just sending HDMI or Displayport video, they are doing some real-time video compression and streaming from the PC into the headset and this is done over the same USB cable that the motion/input is being sent over. This has the side effect of taking more system resources than traditional VR since you're also encoding a compressed video at the same time.

With the Quest and Quest 2 there are 2 methods of getting your PC games to your headset. One is the oculus link system which does everything over a USB cable, and the other is Virtual Desktop, which is a 3rd party app that runs both on your quest and your PC and sends all that data over wifi. I've tried both and right now Virtual Desktop is better than Oculus Link. The video quality is significantly better, and as long as you have a recent router (with 5ghz support) and you're in the same room as your router, you probably won't notice any latency (it's in the 20s of ms). The oculus link system right now is still optimized for the quest 1 so the resolution of the video being sent to the quest 2 is much lower than the system is capable of, leading to a soft looking picture. It is possible with oculus debug tools to increase that to the native resolution of the quest but there is still some down/upscaling going on with that system that oculus is aware of and they are working on fixing. So right now, Virtual Desktop (if you've got the wifi for it and are willing to spend the $20 for it) is the best way to do PC VR with the Quest 2. I think oculus will probably fix the Oculus Link resolution issues eventually.

Assetto Corsa isn't heavy or multi-core enough to suffer from performance issues related to also having the video encoder going in the background so all the AC driving I've done since I got the Quest 2 has been smooth as silk.

Directly addressing the transition from CV1 to Quest 2... you'll be blown away by the graphical quality. It's SOOOO much better.

Oh, and one more concern that should probably be addressed. Even using the official link cable, many USB ports don't provide enough power to keep the Quest 2's battery from discharging while you use it plugged in. It will deplete the battery by about 10-15% per hour while you use it plugged in. If you don't plug it in while you use it you'll get about 2 hours of play time out of it.

Ah, okay. Also btw i have downloaded your DPi data pack and for some reason the Mazda with the swapped physics is way slower than the other DPis. Have i done something wrong?

I can answer that: it's not the car itself but, it's the collider itself. Unpack the data and remove the ground collide or put it at 0 in the collder.ini file then it would should be working fine

edit: to quote from you @Mike Drot. If you need help you can get @Caddy_DPi to assist you on that. Since he's also making the skin aswell afaik

Are you just joking around?

The DPi's model themselves are good but the textures.....and some of the configs....yeahhh they aren't great. (have the skins done by caddy which just uploaded onto RD and Alex's who did the 2020 cars [correct me please] they look better with the ones that come with the mod)

Someone can help?

Great great post GB. Super helpful/informative. Thank you. Looking forward to getting my Q2.

After all the upgrades I have two full rigs as of end of this week, one with 3 x 27inch triples and one with 3 x 32 in triples, which according to my wife is exactly two rigs too many...

the question I ask myself (and you lot) is whether I create an unholy (if its even possible) marriage of the two to have a 2 x Triples setup.
The hope is to run the 27's under the 32's to see more of the car dash etc

rig1 has a 2080s and main rig has 2080ti, if i transplant the 2080s into main rig pc, can they be run seperately (not SLI) but together to create this config, and can the second set be "sized" correctly to match the first set?

Hello @RMi_wood ,

Havent had a chance to grab and download the track yet but will get it soon. Does this short track also have a working pit area? Just curious.
Thank you and take care.

Hi,

I meant for the Hybrid 2020, Hybrid X and F2 2020.

Before and now.

Thanks,

Copy the all the Pirelli tire textures (RSS_T etc...) from the skin you used in the showroom and put them in "cars\rss_formula_hybrid_2020\extension" renaming the Pirelli ones to the name of the compound you wish to replace in that folder (ie RSS_C4 etc...and don't forget to make a backup of the original versions of course ;))
