So,
@kapnk006 - What's the verdict? You in love yet?
I'm dying to try the Rift with Assetto Corsa, but I refuse to even try it for a second until I know I'm in a position to build a new computer and get the rift for myself. Unfortunately, my currently laptop won't run it - stupid SLI - and I know if I actually try the Rift with AC right now, I'll never be able to go back to the 2D experience again. Right now I have such a terrible setup with my 55" XBR being 8-9 feet away. Seeing ceiling fans, windows & curtains and furniture in my peripheral vision while driving is a 🤬 immersion killer, let me tell you.
So tell us...Did your erection last more than 4 hours? Did you have to seek medical attention, like those TV ads for Viagra tell us to?
Thanks for asking ALB! OK, I am finally able to report back a bit about my first 3 days experience with VR and the Oculus Amazon Bundle. Hey you asked, so here goes:
1) Oculus CV-1/Touch Bundle Packaging from Amazon: Beautiful, high quality printed Box, but not intuitive once you open the box.
2) Is there a software DVD for my PC to help me use my new VR device....WTF?
3) Why is there no "Quick Setup Guide"....?
4) OK, so I went to Youtube and searched "How to hook up Oculus" ......
5) Ah! OK, so I need to go to the Oculus website to download the software....OK....now we're getting somewhere!
6) Oculus Software Downloaded...COOL!
7) Software Setup Instructions: Why during the setup instructions is it telling me I need to hook up my Oculus Remote Controller and Xbox Controller? The bundle package does not come with a Oculus Controller and I don't own an Xbox Controller. I just want to drive in Assetto Corsa RIGHT NOW!
8) AH, OK, so I just kept hitting the "SKIP" buttons during installation.
9) HEY! I am in Assetto Corsa, sitting in my McLaren 650S GT3, Oculus VR Headset is ON. Wait....WTF.....why can I see the game my flat screen PC monitor....but not in the Oculus Headset?
10) One hour later......Thank you
@Cote Dazur, Per your instructions I clicked the......"Allow Oculus to recognize software from unknown sources"
11) Hey! I'M IN! I'M SITTING IN THE MCLAREN 650S GT3!
Point is....the VR experience is damn fascinating, forget about Assetto Corsa for the moment. Getting it to work in AC was clunky and makes me realize that Oculus/VR Manufacturers are in their infancy have really have NO IDEA how to reach a broad PC audience with a plug-and-play mentality (not early adopters who are techie) like me. Now for the good part: Once you get the Headset to function....and When you've become obsessed with AC over the last couple years like I have, VR somewhat allows you to take your obsession one step further and literally "Get inside of the game".....in a 4th dimension (?) of sorts.....that gives me a TOTALLY new perspective on what AC is. I'm less impressed by the visually quality (or lack there of) and more impressed with the fact that It TOTALLY freaked me out when I pulled off the side of the racetrack at Brands Hatch during a race, got out of the car, looked rearward, toward the back of the car, could see the beautiful sheen of sunshine glimmering off that massive, beautiful GT3 spoiler, and off in the distance was able to watch the field of cars come by......as if I was a spectator watching the race from the grandstand.
12) Now, I suppose the next few days will be spent by me reading the 108 page Oculus Forum over on AC to learn how to tweak SS, PD ASW, STD and the dozen other settings that will hopefully improve experience....
13) SUMMARY: WORTH THE SPEND FOR ME BUT NOT SURE IF EVERYONE WILL FEEL THE SAME WAY.
