Aston Martin Valhalla (AM-RB 003 / Valkyrie Successor )

Well I mean it's gorgeous. Bit of a duckbill face on it but whatever, it also looks like more like an Aston than it did before. The green and gold is perfect. It's really excellent.

And you're telling me this is the "regular" supercar and its a 900-something horsepower hybrid like the P1? Is there even room for the Valkyrie above this?!

Valhalla development is back on with help from Alonso and Stroll. It should go in production by 2024

The company says a full 90 percent of Valhalla's dynamic characteristics and set-up is all simulation, with just 10 percent coming from practical testing. That certainly tracks with the car's lengthy development time – it was first announced way back in 2019 as a hybrid V6, then upgraded to a hybrid V8 in 2021, and as of now, a road-going version still isn't, well, on the road. That will soon change, as Aston Martin says a Valhalla will be operating by the end of the year.

999 Valhallas are slated for production, and if things stay on schedule, that will commence next year.

Holy moly that is a hefty rear wang. It's an odd design. I'm going to call that a wing with a flap rather than a slat on a wing because the main wing in front has a longer chord than the flap at the rear. But that main wing does resemble the typical placement of a slat in front of the higher camber middle section of a wing. Still an odd design because the total camber of that thing isn't very extreme and could easily be accomplished with a single wing.

I know this seems a bit of a stupid question since the Valkyrie has already been confirmed to be going racing next year...but I wonder if they'll race the Valhalla as well? Maybe in 2026 or later?

I would wager probably not because I don't think it will have a place to go. The Valkyrie will be against the GTP/Hypercar classes, & then the Vantage fills in the GTD/LMGT3 classes.

This car also starts at an eye watering $800,000. The factory is going to field the Valkyrie, I don't think any privateers will be lining up to buy a Valhalla to race when the Vantage is there.

Official production specs of the Valhalla

There's 1,064 combined horsepower from its plug-in hybrid powertrain, a bit more than previously expected. The vast majority—817 hp—comes from the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 mounted behind the driver's head.

There's a flat-plane crankshaft in there, spinning new pistons and incorporating a dry sump lubrication system. It has bespoke camshafts and a new ignition system. Upgraded turbochargers fill the cylinders.

The remaining power arrives courtesy of three electric motors. One is integrated with the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, serving primarily as a starter and generator to charge the battery pack. The other two are up front, turning each wheel for all-wheel-drive grip. The motors can operate independently for torque-vectoring wizardry on a race track, or you can punch up EV mode and drive for 8.6 miles at speeds up to 80 mph. Only the front motors are active in electric operation, and since the Valhalla has no reverse gear, they're responsible for backing up the supercar.

With everything working together, Aston Martin says the Valhalla reaches 62 mph in a "predicted" 2.5 seconds. Keep the pedal floored and you'll top out at 217 mph, a figure made possible by the car's active aero system. In most driving situations, the big rear wing remains down to preserve the Valhalla's clean exterior design. Switch to race mode, and it rises up rather dramatically. The front lip also extends out further, increasing downforce to a maximum of 1,322 pounds at 149 mph. From there, wing angles are automatically adjusted to maintain that force as speeds increase.

Aston Martin Valhalla production begins in the second quarter of 2025. Pricing isn't mentioned, and just 999 examples will ultimately be built.

I actually like it. And it’s green. No dad jokes from me.

Edit: 1655kg, appears to be the exact weight of a 911 Turbo S. I can live with that.

I like it too. I'm pretty sure the engine is derived from the AMG GT Black Series and we all know how good it is in that car. This baby Valkyrie looks the piece and it's surely going to perform it as well.

I really like the details on this production version much more than the 2021 prototype, particularly the headlights which are a big improvement. It's a really good looking car.

But I'm wondering how successful Aston will be in shifting all 999 of them. Has there ever been a million euros/dollars car where the manufacturer has sold a thousand (or more) of them? Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't recall there ever being one. The closest analog might be the 918 Spyder (918 units, price about 800-850k ten years ago, though that is roughly a million with inflation taken into account) and Porsche infamously struggled to sell those, only selling out near the end of production and with the help of offering a VIP program for buyers in certain parts of the world. And the 918 was a car with a tremendous amount of fanfare and hype, much more than what the Valhalla seems to be getting, from a stronger brand overall. I get that was ten years ago and there's more buyers for hypercars these days, but I can't help but predict they will struggle to sell all 999. Hope I'm wrong though, it's a cool car.
