It's really, really awful - I can't even imagine how scary it must be to hear gunshots on campus like that.
 
will this crap ever end? i can't even imagine what that was like there and to think that is a major school there in virgina, i am shocked by all of this. why are people so freaking stupid. why? first, columbine then jonesboro, ark. which i live in harrison by the way. now virgina tech.... where and when will it end.
 
The online interwebs and the cable tubes are aflutter with the news of whats going on, and I have to say that I'm stunned. Two people killing 21 students, injuring another 20 or more, its just something you wouldn't expect in the United States. I keep hearing reports that the first gunman has been killed, but they (police) aren't saying if it was suicide or because of Police intervention...

...There have also been reports that these guys were lining up students execution style, and that alone causes a good amount of worry...

Just outrageous, simply outrageous. The big question, at least for me is whether or not these gunman were students that were somehow emotionally, mentally, whatever, disturbed... Or if this was some kind of terrorist-related attack. We'll find out I suppose, but the news certainly isn't coming out very fast...
 
And you thought Iraq and Al Queda was bad....we got our own home grown nit wits.



It will end when all or most of the students can shoot back .


And GUESS what THAT sucks ...who wants to live in that world ?
 
Where I work in DC isn't too far from that area and arriving at work there were lots of sirens and what not but I didn't think anything of it. Now I learn about this and find out they were sending police from this area to help contain the situation.

I don't understand how after one death without catching the killer they would still hold classes. It just seems absurd.

What is is about this time of the year that brings out massacres like this? I always felt the university is that one place that's sealed off from the rest of the world's ills. I guess not; it's soon going to be just like public schools, courtrooms, and airports...searches everywhere because a few individuals can't behave themselves.

I hate to put it so bluntly but:


You have a body. With a gunshot wound. No gun. No killer.


Someone is on campus with a gun. Anywhere.

The worst decision you can make is to continue holding classes. Just due to crowding. 50-100 people in a single room, it just seems like shooting fish a barrel, so to speak.

Obviously after discovery of the first incident, no one would know what it would escalate to. But you could at least prevent it.
 
My guess is that this person got picked on or mistreated by a group of people enough and he finally snapped. Either way its a horrifying event. Was it 1 shooter or 2?
 
...university cops are slow to react. Unless you're going 21 in a 20mph zone.
 
Last I heard, it was a single gunman. He made the first hit, laid low while crossing campus, and popped up again 2 hours later on the other side.

My boss has a stepson who's an engineering undergrad at Virginia Tech. No word about him at the moment.

There's at least one other GTP member there, as well. Can't recall the exact username, but "VTGT"-something springs to mind.
 
Jeez.... I can't think off the top of my head whether I know anyone who is currently attending, I've been several times in the past though, prayers to anyone that knows someone at VT
 
Horrible events. Can't possibly imagine the mind set of the victims, victims famillies, the witness and perhaps most disturbingly the killers.
 
They just aired a phone call where a girl said that the gunman was having an argument with his girlfriend, an RA showed up to help, and he shot them both.
 
i have been watching the coverage all day at school. i am just sick. hopefully we havent lost anyone in the community, but i am deeply sadened at those who were killed. these unjustifiable tragedies are horrible.
