At least 30 dead in Virginia Tech shooting, CNN calls monumental tragedy

There are certainly some screwed up people in this world of ours. This is one of the saddest things I've seen in a while.

This is all the more horrible considering my crappy day and the fact that I go to an engineering school... my heart goes out to those families.

It's easy to see that the killer was just fed up with everything. Most likely he had been having problems for years, building up rage and anger inside him, and along with that he has people that mess with him to, just adding to the fire. maybe there was an exam, he was extremely stressed, and to top it all off, his girlfriend started arguing with him or maybe dumped him.

Its not too hard to think of a motive.

I just hope they don't search his dorm and find GTA or something like that. Then they'll go off like they did with columbine "Its all Marilyn Mansons fault"

The level of remoteness is the truly scary part. Grabbing a gun, finding targets, and shooting them, while they are fleeing and hiding. Watching them bleed and die, and still being able keep the ability to calmly aim again, kill again, and reload.

To avoid the emotions involved in taking a life is not easily done, and usually only comes with strict military training or long history of abuse.

Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and say that no, we don't know a thing about this guy, let alone all that.

We do know him and his girlfriend were in a fight before he went on his shooting rampage, but any number of things could have lead up to it.

Because he managed to find out who the killer was, that he played videogames, AND managed to prove that these videogames caused him to murder many innocent people all before we even know whether or not this man was a student. Apparently Jack Thompson just wants to fail at being a human being...

The man works fast.
Actually, if anything I'm surprised it took him so long. I bet now he going to say that his infamous "Columbine times 10" has happened, too; and that he was so insightful for seeing it come so early.

it makes me so disappointed in humanity to see that someone will take advantage of something like this looking to place the blame from the true killer (the gunman) on something like a couple of videogames...

Considering VTGT is an accounting major, I do hope he's well.

Perhaps I should apply to VT; I wonder if their freshmen have now all pulled out and if they're taking a spike in admissions.

It's really scary that something like this can and has happend. Everyone sees these things and just thinks, it'll never happen to me, and odds would agree. But just think that the people who died this morning thought that this would never happen to them. Young kids in the prime of their lives, building their futures, and this guy just steals everything away from them. It really pisses me off that some jackass feels the need to drop his baggage onto someone else. ***holes

On an even more sadistic note, I was listening to the radio about it earlier today. Some guy called in talking about how this was the worst school shooting to ever take place in the history of the U.S.. He started to compare this guy, who had (presumably) two 9 mils and was able to take out 30 or so people, to the kids from Columbine who had machine guns, handguns, shotguns, pipebombs, and only took out 12 people. He then ended his call with: "thank god someone finally learned how to shoot."

I will probably raise fires with this, but I am rather shocked as to what I have been hearing around this incident regarding gun control. Why do people use such tragedies to push their political views (and no, I am not talking about Thompson)?

...I was listening to the radio this afternoon and a young dude called in about a friend that was in one of the classrooms that was shot-up, where a lot of students died. Apparently this kid was smart enough to hit the deck and pretend to be dead, as it saved his life. I'm not certain if the story was completely confirmed, but my God, I don't know if I would have been able to do the same in that situation...

While driving back to school this afternoon to drop-off a paper, I got to thinking about how 'weak' the 'protection' offered by the school is. None of the security guards carry weapons of any kind, the nearest Police Department is at least 10 minutes away, and by no means have they been able to stop violence at my school before. Last fall, there were three or four women who were attacked on campus and severely beaten for a few dollars, a cell phone, a digital camera, etc... The perps were never caught.

So whats to stop a gunman from shooting up Aquinas College? Nothing really it would seem...

...Yet another good reason to buy a handgun and have a concealed weapon license...

👍

Too bad that won't do you any good on the BU campus, since weapons aren't allowed on school property, even if you have all the right permits.

It's sad when you think about it. I mean, these kids go to school to learn, and now the ones who witnessed it will have to go to school, with the prospect in the back of their minds that this can happen again.

Has anyone heard from VTGT07?

And I think '85fierogt and Talentless are from around that area too. Anyone heard anything from them?

Fingers-crossed... :nervous:

Two people killing 21 students, injuring another 20 or more, its just something you wouldn't expect in the United States.
Not to change the topic, but it seems to happen every year or two that some tool walks into a school or similar and starts to open fire on people over there. Regardless, people that do this are not normal, it's wicked.

This is really sad. I just don't know how you stop something like this from happening. Why take so many innocent lives? Such a waste.

Agreed 100%

This is a tragic event, and I just wonder what would have happened if someone had had a concealed weapons permit.

Of course, most schools ban any sort of weapon, so it defeats students wanting to protect themselves:yuck:

I haven't heard from Jon (VTGT) on this yet, I'll leave a message with him and update when I hear back, since he is online right now, I'm going to assume he is fine (that and he is accounting, not engineering)

I don't see how having a student carrying a gun is going to help. What they should be concentrating on is stopping the guns from getting into the school.

I fail to see how more people having guns would help reduce gun crime. I couldn't imagine how bad Manchester would be if all the scallies and gang members had access to firearms.

This pisses me off to know end. It just perplexes me that someone could do so much damage and then be such a coward as to kill himself and not face his future.

I have a cousin who used to go to Tech but I don't know if he does anymore because he was cut from the football team and that was what his scholarship was for. Also I have a friend whos brother's friend was one of the people who died yesterday. And to think I wanted to go to this shool after graduating from NOVA.

He said 'all'. Manchester and parts of London are the worst.

Also what's the point in having a concealed weapon if said attacker walks in and fires, you'd have very little time to react, unless you keep your hand on your gun all the time.

It's up to the police and security to protect, not your average Joe public.

Wouldn't they have access to them already?
No, not all. The minute few manage to get hold of guns by dodgy dealings but that's it. I've never seen anything more than an air rifle and that is something I'm happy about. I wouldn't walk though Chorlton if all the scallies there had easy access to guns. The gun crime rate would likely shoot up, put it that way.
