MT :)

with AT its impossible to do a good time. By good i mean less than 2:20...

I'm at 2:18:9xx and use DS3 MT... 2 days of GT academy only till now :( wish i had more time to improve my time xd

I did a 2:18.1 with ds3 mt and 2:18.7 with ds3 at. So it doesnt really make much of a differance until u really know a good line around the track

Have a look at the Help/Tips thread by Tidgney ;)

Thanks for your comments - very kind of you to not say I'm crap and should learn to drive MT which is probably the case ...

Just curious why I don't see either zzz-pt or Pr1vateJoker at a time of 2:18.xxx on the online rankings??? You list your playstation IDs correctly?
2:18 would put you in the top 25. Very impressive if it's true but I just can't find you guys anywhere in the rankings online. Not saying you didn't get those times you just aren't listed online with the playstaion IDs you list.

BTW- 2:32 with a DS3 is incredible if you ask me. I have an official driving force GT wheel and a custom built seat and wheel mount which gives me the exact seating position of a real car. It's great. I also race my '05 WRX STI in the local autocross and have been racing for fun in real life for over 15 years and I can't get better than 2:30 with that slippery, loose rear drive car so you are doing great for using a game pad. I'm used to driving my STI which is AWD and tends to under-steer and rarely pokes it's rear out like that Nissan no matter how much gas i give it. If I could drive my real car on that dang track I would get 2:15 easy. It really frustrating the lack of true feedback I get form the gaming wheel as compared to driving ANY real car. It's hard to tell what's really going on at the wheels until it's practically too late. I can't imagine using a DS3. It'd be like driving totally blind.
IF you can afford it get a wheel and I think you will improve by 4-5 seconds immediately.

If I'm brutaly honest, hardly. If I recall correctly I ran 2:31 on my second lap of the circuit.

Up to a certain pace, it is probably easier than using a wheel, people seem to say slides are easier to control for one. Although, I should say that I don't have any personal experience of using a wheel with GT5.

I'm currently at 2:22.5 or so, I've been doing it just to compete with friends so I'm not going to bother with improving further, but I can feel the potential to get into the 2:19s with enough time spent on it. I don't even use the shoulder triggers or sticks.

You don't shift faster with MT.

You just have more control of the car as you decide when to shift.
With AT, you have no choice about when to shift.

They are listed in the online rankings. You may be looking at the USA ranking table, whereas these guys are from Europe so they will be listed in the European ranking table.

My best time is 2.21 with a DS3. I tried my wheel for the first time last night and had a 2.23 within 5 laps. One thing I did notice is it's much easier to lose control with the wheel compared to the DS3.

With regards to the MT/AT comparison, the point at which the game changes gear for you while using AT is too low. I think this is a good thing because it encourages you to use MT, because all the fast times are using MT.

Hey dude, it took me about a week of playing two hours a day, to beat my pad times in the 2010 gt academy. After a while the wheel is alot easier to keep control. Stick with it, it should make you alot faster and consistant

My nick is GT5ACADEMY :) i've created another account because my zzz_pt acc has incomplete and wrong information about me xd

2:18:937 with 2 days of attempts... Unfortunately i just can play GTa on (some) saturdays

I'm currently posting a 2.30.060 using the DS3 and automatic transmission. That's 6240th position in the rankings, lol. I do feel like I can do a lot better with some more time invested.

Well if you are still in 2:30 zone, don't worry about the mt or at difference. It's too early, focus on the line and braking points. AT doesn't stop u improving the lap time until u are in the 2:1x zone.
