Until they walk into a dealership and see a massive photo of a R18/919/TS040 on the wall...

If they've already walked into a dealership, then they're already interested in buying a Audi/Porsche/Toyota.

The thing is how long do you think VAG will allow Audi and Porsche to race each other in the same series.

It would make sense if Audi left.

But at the same time I guess it helps both market themselves staying especially since the series is growing in popularity.

VAG let Porsche enter the ring with Audi didn't they? Besides both compete in sportscar racing in GT3.
yeah but GT3 costs nothing compared to LMP1-H, they are apprently spending around $250 Million US a season at current on the LMP project, same with porsche.

IIRC VAG are using WEC as a testing ground for future powertrain technologies. Audi have a diesel-powered hybrid while Porsche have a petrol-powered hybrid.

That'd make sense. And why Audi use a flywheel and Porsche a battery pack.

Unless at boardroom level they already had a plan for how long both marques would compete for the same prize. Say maybe three seasons?

There has to be a limit for how cost effective it is to have two of their brands spending the thick end of $500m per season between them for essentially the same goal.

GT3 is a customer category. It has nothing to do with VAG or Porsche who races who. That is down to whoever buys the car.

As for LMP1. Who knows. Maybe Porsche do what Porsche do and stuff what VAG thinks?
