Manual or Auto

I think it would be a good idea to work on your racing lines with auto, concentrate on your driving and not worry about the gears. I used auto all the time before I started drifting. :)

Nah, because when working on the lines, if you're not used to the powerband it will severly though you off when you actually push it.

But, I can see it as a possibility :sly:

I always raced in auto right up until a few months ago when I started drifting. I think it was good, because I had already got my racing lines down on most tracks. I just had to get used to changing gears and when to change them. :)

Thats a good way. just to get your lines down but it wont help you if you raced some one with manual.

I guess your right, but would you think if two people raced in the same cars and had the same skills, that the person in the manual car would have a big advantage? I know people say manual gives you more power, but how much more?

I just made the switch to manual today... OMFG! I don't suck anymore!!! my best lap was at high-speed ring and I got a lap time of 1:31 which I dunno if it's good for an underpowered '98 Impreza... but still... I CAN DRIFT NOW!!!!
:sly:

I think last time i use an auto transmission in games, it was for the beginnig of GT2 . How you can contrrol perfectly your gaz momentum without controlling your powerband with good gear setup, specially for drifting, and if you want to keep all your concentration for handling car, and your not able able to shift during drift, you have problem, for me i think is the base of all, maybe try to pratice racing shift, and control engine revolution just by the sound before.
Things gonna be more easy for you after that:sly:

I agree I rarely watch my revs its become more of a sound thing for me.

Yeah, after I drove manual for awhile I just started to listen to the engine and know when to shift. If your laps are consistent you shift at around the same times I notice. :)

Hmm..good question. I'll do two runs at 100% for myself in my Trueno one auto and the other manual at DFR to compare.

How did that go k_c, would be interesting to hear about your results. 👍

Ok, this is getting off topic...please use the search button next time, there are several topics in the Drifting forum as well in the Original GT4 forum. If you want examples here

Whoops, there is alot of stuff out there about auto or manual. Thanks for setting me straight nk4e, I was drifting off course. :)

Poor auto players, they are a dying breed. :)

As far as racing goes they should be a dead breed. Except for dragging, there is not practical need for auto in motorsports that I can think of. Well, nothing that the average person could get involved in and certainly not anything in GT4 :)

For myself i only use auto transmision, when i go make money in costa di amalfi.
but the main reason for that, relaxing, drop my DFP for the DS2 and drive listening music.:)

i just sit back, set up my viper, and listen to that v-10 scream 980+ BHP at me, surprising how i relax, huh? (but then again, my favourite soun was a 63 427 vette with 1200 HP, yeah, 1200, and that thing sounded like a stampede of elephants, just one massive roar.

i just changed to manuel and im running alot faster. i agree. (but thewn again, who can run 440 'Cuda with 705 HP with a measly little auto?)

I like drifting in manual. I just feel like i can control the gears better when i need those high rpms for banging out of a turn and i can keep the smoke going in 2nd 👍
