Manual or Auto

I agree I rarely watch my revs its become more of a sound thing for me.
I agree completely, I stopped paying attention to all of the dials entirely. I've played most of the tracks to the point where I just know by feel how long to brake/when to shift. It's like the car literally becomes an extension of your body... (I watch the Science channel too much ... damn you robosapien)

Same here, after awhile you just forget about paying attention to the hud. Because you usually always change gear in the same place. Thats what I find anyway, especially if the race has alot of laps. :)

I tried auto, but never got it right, switched to manual, and love it... Also, forgetting about everything else (i.e. guages) and just hearing the engine and feeling the road, that is getting in the zone. When you just react, all instinctively, your eyes aren't quite focused and you breathe steadily, that is when you will always do best. I think that my switching to a manual allowed me to "become one with the car." Also, with the ability to hold a gear (can be done with an automatic if you hold R2 or L2) without having to adjust the throttle, or you can shift to gain or lose traction when you need to to hold your line.

Manual is just bether there is no argue about that control of a car is important when you want to get the best out of you car

What? you CAN concentrate on your steering. When you get better you'll feel like you can only drift a manual.

yea im beginner drifter, but after playing gt4 from the start as only manual and then only recently trying auto out.. i found that auto is poor for controlling speed into corners no matter wat style of racing wether it be drift or grip.

I like to drift Auto. Its just how i started and i dont really feel like adjusting my drifts to manual.
Just my way, some people will disagree and some will agree.

with manual it keeps in gear, wich is important to me, I use powerover just put it in 2nd or 3rd, slam the throttle and go sideways, with auto it keeps shifting gear very annoying, and it doesn.t help to keep the car sideways either

so manual it is

Actually, I have learned that you can keep an automatic in gear simply by holding one of the buttons you would normally use to shift gears. Just wait till you are in the gear you want to be in, and hold the button. The gear will not change until you release.

i just sit back, set up my viper, and listen to that v-10 scream 980+ BHP at me, surprising how i relax, huh? (but then again, my favourite soun was a 63 427 vette with 1200 HP, yeah, 1200, and that thing sounded like a stampede of elephants, just one massive roar.

that was in for-real life right?

I greatly prefer manual any day. Going around El Capitan in the race Camaro, it the that lefe/right series right after the main straight, i get into an insane rythem of throttle, brake, downshift, throttle, up, brake, down. once you get a rythem down on a course, theres no need for the guages. i just keep them up for when i get too into it, and i see the flashing 'suggested gear' pop up, and i toss it down a gear into the turn, and hope the back end steps out enough to powerslide/drift into that corner.

auto matic was bad, if you went w/out the Aids, and you had any tire spin, auto just allows them to spin. manual, shift up, NO2 if you have it (i usualy dont) and get back up to speed. plus its a must in drift, to keep it in gear. i'm getting the hang of drifting my 69 vette, and it does the best in the 3000-4000 rpm range, tons of low end torgue. that, and if you can master drifting and power sliding, i garuntee you can knock off a second or two on most any track. and im workin that vette nicely. not the hugest drifts, not the show one, ones that are gettin me around faster.

I totally agree here. Most of the time, when braking coming into a corner, I time it so that I need one final tap on the brakes, this will usually downshift then holding the R2 keeps it there. I just cant get the hang of manual.

once you do, you will never switch back.

come to the manual side, we have faster cars. :D

Ok. You were all right. Manual is better than automatic.
After my data corrupted, I made a point of doing all the licenses with manual.
I now have the hang of it and ,yes, it is better.

And there you go. :)
