Automobilista 2 - Discussion Thread

Nice, just a heads up though an update is coming as soon as today (final version seems to be in beta) which changes how every vehicle handles so I wouldn't get too invested until it's released.
That's the biggest thing that keeps me off the mods. AMS2 has a ton of stuff to do already anyway. For now, and definitely for the time I have for this stuff.

Anyone who likes hotlap challenges, there's this bunch of misfits. I do them when I have time. You'll find me tpwards the bottom usually.

I've been running quick little 10 lap races just to experiment with various cars and new tracks. But last night I had a race end after lap 9. I came to the flag to start lap 10 but it said that was the end of the race and I don't remember seeing that before. We've always finished lap 10.

Also regarding FOV, in open wheel cars the default FOV is perfect for me. But if I adjust it for closed top cars is it going to adjust it for everything, or just the specific car I'm currently driving? I'm too close to the windshield in closed top cars but I don't want to be miles back in open wheeled cars.

I would recommend you have FOV adjustment and seat adjustment button mapped. At least forward and backward for the seat. You can also pause the race and adjust FOV in the options.
I have seat forward, back, up down and believe even tilt mapped. I am running GT4 offline 3 race challenge today. Actually will end up being (6) 15 minuet races as each track has 2 rounds. Good stuff and I have the difficult set where qualifying mid pack at best.

Not sure about the lap thing. I may have en ountered a few weird instances from time to time, but not sure.

I'm just going to have to pick a car and fiddle around with it to see what it does.

One thing I am noticing is some terrible glitches at tracks where the grass is jumping onto the track from the side. I would have thought a game of this age would have fixed things like that a long time ago.

I need some emergency help. Tonight I launched the game and noticed that my steering wheel didn't light up as usual. I think it always shows neutral until you start driving. Didn't really think that much about it. Went in to test drive a car and in the pits the wheel still wasn't lighting up. The car pulls out and my wheel has no FFB at all. Car gets to the end of pitlane and gives my control and I have no steering and the pedals do not respond.

I've checked the configuration and it's just like it's always been. It shows the wheel in there. But for some reason it's not recognizing anything. I double checked the other two games ACC and F1 23 and the wheel is perfectly fine in them. All lights working and full functionality. I've unplugged, restarted, etc. and nothing works. Very odd.

I am no expert at wheel set-up or configuration for racing sims. Understand your frustration.

What is the brand and wheel model, maybe others can help.

You can also Google or YouTube searches.

Fanatec CSL DD base, Formula V2 rim.

I've tried both Google and Youtube but nothing is coming up. The only thing different I did this time was to go into the game file and create the Mods folder and then Enable inside that folder but I don't think that would have any effect on recognition of the wheel. The wheel is listed in configuration just like normal but there is no response from either the wheel or the pedals.

Did you try just restarting AMS2? What I find can happen sometimes is a faulty USB connection that looses connection for just a brief moment will lose FFB to the wheel. AMS2 is sensitive to these things. A restart will usually fix it.

Great Info, just scanned over the article. Will do more indept read after working hours. I do not mind delays to much. Anyways something to look forward to after blah work day of more then one project delay in my real job.

I restarted it several times. It worked fine all weekend. I'll check the USB connection but if that were the case I wouldn't think it would show the wheel on the configuration screen. Unless it retains it permanently until you change it. Monday when I came into work I discovered that the three games I have on the home PC, had Internet Explorer icons on my PC here at work so I deleted them. Got home last night and saw that the three games were missing from that PC's desktop, so I went into my Steam library and reinstalled the icons to my home PC desktop. Then launched AMS2 and discovered the no wheel or pedals issue.

What happened is I forgot to turn off sharing on the home PC and also this one here at work. I think when I deleted the icons here at work it then also deleted them on the home PC.

The only possible thing I think there is left to try is to totally delete AMS2 from the PC then reinstall it and hopefully the wheel starts working again. But that also brings up a potential future problem. If this happens again, and I've got a folder full of mods, when I delete the game to reinstall, are all of the mods gone too?

No, don't uninstall the whole game. If anything, just delete the Documents folder and reset up your wheel. All personal settings are in your Documents folder.

Delete the documents folder labeled "Automobilista 2"? Reset up the wheel in game?

That's something to try first if you think there's a wheel setup issue. I've had to do it before myself.
Now there's files within that folder if you peruse around, and you can see certain ones designated to either setups or wheel or whatnot. You can delete the whole folder to be sure ort you can try to just go file by file. Seeing as we're so close to the game changing 1.5, your setups won't matter and seeing as you just setup your wheel, you can probably do it pretty fast again.

I have a Fanatec Porsche Endurance wheel with a bunch of switches and buttons and an h-shifter and I've gotten pretty fast at whipping through setting it up after having to reset it in AMS2 throughout it's updates.

I don't really know if it is a setup issue. With neither the wheel or the pedals working a connection issue seems reasonable but I know I plugged the USB cable into the back of the PC tight. Unless it's on the wheel end and the cable has wriggled loose just enough for this one game to not see it which sounds odd but stranger things have happened before. I'm going to start there tonight.

Updating AMS2 ---- will get on the track after quick dinner. Had to make some space on my computer removed AC again.

I will reserve my comments for the weekend when have a proper session.

Got the wheel and pedals back. Once I checked all cables were tight I deleted the AMS2 folder and let the game create another one on launch and that's what did it. Thanks for your help.

And you're right, 1.5 is good.

Going to give it a run tonight when I get home hopefully, but how big a jump are we looking at with v1.5? I've enjoyed the game immensely but there have been those lingering... issues or janky bits here and there. What I like about the guys at Reiza though is how transparent they seem to be with it all, and that they are obviously very passionate about getting this as right as they possibly can.

What they've achieved with the Madness Engine so far is absolutely heroic too. I think everyone, including Ian Bell and SMS themselves, could see the potential in this engine and with as much love as I had for PC1 and 2, they had their flaws even if some of them were charming in their own way. Reiza have polished this into something far more resembling a diamond than before.

Pretty big. The driving is top. The way you can overdrive a car but still stay in control but at the expense of serious tire wear is now second to none. They have this right. In something like AC, if you overdrive a car it's either spin or understeer. In AMS2, you still have control of the car but you are chewing tires up. Very similar to real life in that aspect. Some of the best AI after this update that I've raced in the few races I could get in last night.
Haven't even driven the dirt stuff yet. Just going to random classes and trying stuff. Liked everything so far. Still thought the Caterham 620 is a handful but it probably should be.

Sounds really promising then. I admittedly don't play AMS2 as much as I should as I have league racing commitments on other games, but that does mean I do really then just play it for fun.

Looking forward to giving it a spin.

Okay so got a little running in on the game last night, did a 30 minute race at Oulton with no chicanes in the Group C/GTPs... really liked it, the Corvette GTP felt nice and solid, the FFB feels a bit better, the handling a bit better, the cars aren't quite as floaty though you still can feel that inherent PCars-ness to it (which I don't mind tbh)

Very fun. Need to try the dirt stuff still too.

Now have several hours of using AMS2 1.5

Like just about everything out of the dozen or so different cars that have messed with. Have also tried a few tracks that have not spent hardly anytime on. Rally seems okay, but never really that interested in it. If I had a choice between more track cars and tarmac tracks, would live with out rally. AMS2 continues to really shine. Not overally impressed with the now in game spotter as PC2 provides more in that area. Still it is not bad and does decent job and is maybe just the right amount of voice commands without overdoing it. The formula cars continue to impress me. Everything feels really good.
It is currently at the level where hard to get up walk away and get back to reality. One more lap turns into 5 or 10 etc.

As a newbie running 10 lap races, it's interfering with me getting to bed at a reasonable time :)

It's getting late but let me run just this last one. Oh just one more with this car at this new track, etc., etc.

Nils Naujoks' video on v1.5 was quite interesting. Shows that there are still things that need working on, and to me showed one of the more obvious things I've noticed about the GT cars and others like it, that they seem to be too communicative and lively in a way.

Need to put some more miles on it myself too. I've had great fun whenever I've driven it so far.

Continuing to enjoy AMS2. In fact basically all that am playing currently. Gravitating more towards formula cars and maybe some different tracks lately. I just know the formula cars will give a thrill each time. Been mixing it up with quick 7 to 15 lap races and time trials. Have tried occasionally on line race, however really need to find a league or club etc.

More then ever if your on the fence it is time to ditch console and get in to PC sim racing.

Pretty much enjoy most of the car classes.
