Autovista in GranTurismo 6...

It's what would happen if PD took out the standard cars. FM5 is going with one standard across the board, I like what they are doing.

I think PD should follow suit and start fresh and get rid of the "standards" to start a roster of only premium cars.

However if PD would have done that, I bet there'd be lots of whiners which had their "beloved Miata model xxx (whatever)" removed and the number of threads filled with complainers would begin to multiply like bacteria.

They will have to for GT7 on the PS4.

Mixed thoughts on what they'll do with this. I wouldn't be surprised if the first PS4 title has "Standard," "Premium," and "Exquisite" or some 3rd quality tier. That said I do hope they'd just drop the split qualities and move to one awesome one.

On the other hand, modeling the cars at that level will allow us to have a better damage model.

I think the damage model should be removed outright.

However I think I touched Autovista in FM4 once. It's one of those modes, you see it once "go wow" then ignore it.

According to Kaz, the premium cars are already PS4 quality, so PD's premium car models wouldn't become more detailed than they are now.

Sort of. I went through, looked at each car briefly and listened to the commentary. For at least two thirds of them I only listened to the Top Gear commentary and not all the other boring stuff. So basically the minimum you could do and see all the stuff.

Stats told me I'd spend a little over three hours in Autovista. That's not a trivial amount of gameplay.

Unless its American than the info is probably wrong.
Why?

Why does it matter?

Isn't the car list made up of only two American cars and the rest are Japanese?

What's the big deal then? :)

For the car's information in Autovista, each car in GT5 have a info description much more detailed than four words in autovista.

I hope that in GT6 we will able to enter the vehicle without the glitch
That's actually a good point. We Americans have gotten so lazy we've resorted to listening to a dinosaur give us information.

I was hoping to have an Autovista type feature in GT5 before it came out, so hopefully GT6 will be my lucky break!...if the Spyker has a detailed interior.

For the last few days I've watched some Forza 5 videos, only due to the fact they have McLaren P1 confirmed, and when I heard the developer say "we will have autovista for every car" my jaw simply dropped...

What bothers me is that GT series don't really let you have fun with the cars in the game. You can never stop, rotate the camera 360 degrees around the exterior or interior, or even go to a mode where you open up the car, open the bonnet etc. Gran Turismo only concentrates on driving aspect which for me is no longer the full on "automotive experience".

I am reminded of a piece on Top Gear with Jeremy talking about McLaren; about how they're straight-faced and serious. He said something about getting the impression that nobody ever put a whoopie cushion on their boss's chair. That's pretty much PD. They get that a game like this needs lots of cars, tracks, and a good physics engine, but they don't understand anything beyond that, and "fun" has no meaning for them. They know what it takes to make a good driving simulation, but have no idea how to make a good game these days.

In terms of "amount of work" I think Turn 10 is capable of such feats.PD however wouldn't be able to render and model so many cars to such a level even if they had additional 10 years of development for GT7. That's my opinion anyways though I'd like to be proven wrong...

That statement sounds a bit outrageous if you ask me.

They will have to for GT7 on the PS4.

Hopefully by that time they will have been able to convert the majority of them to premium.

For example I love washing my car in reality, there's nothing like it if you want to get to know your car well.

I never really feel like I actually own the car in the game

GT5 has a car wash. You have 4 people washing your car. When have you had 4 people washing your real car at the same time?

It's a game. You can't really get that sense of 'ownership' in a game. Poking around inside a car, looking at seats and vents and buttons, isn't really something people would look for as a prominent aspect of a video game. When watching a movie, people don't sit there and think, well I wish they'd explain what happened in this historical event they just made a reference to, or what the entire backstory is to every character that says a word. It's impossible to keep people interested if you were to go to such great lengths. You just accept the key pieces that they've brought forward. GT brings the driving and racing forward. It's a racing game, not a car dealership.

My 2 cents

It's a feature in Forza 4 with about 25 cars where you can explore the car and hear a little history about them. You can open the doors, hood, trunk, play with adjustable wings, etc. You can get inside the car and check out the interior and start the car.

It's an interesting feature, and I like the info about the cars, but after doing each car once (some twice) I haven't used it since.
Ahh the truth comes out.. I find this easy to believe unless you are using it in conjunction with a photo mode. Again the detail is amazing and I'm all for PD showing off attention to detail with the models but, I'm not sure how much I'd use it.

We all know Turn ten outsources and there are quality control issues with outsourcing

There are plenty of QC and QA issues with PD as well.
Sure, but TheeFrogmanlego's main reasoning is that T10 has the extra resources and SOURCES that the T10 HQ doesn't need to be completely involved in which gives them an edge farting out buggy models of cars.

I have to say, so no one thinks I'm being partial, I think FM5's physics seem to be amazing. Since the X1 won't allow for old peripherals/steering wheels to be used, the plus is that future steering wheels for the X1 are going to keep up in terms of advancement and performance.

FFB wasn't the best (the consensus points to that) and http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15859760&postcount=1. So fast-forward some four years from 2005 (for the Xbox 360) or 2009 (for when that post was made), Forza will now have no disadvantages in the department of how well steering wheels perform.

It's not that hard to model the cars but it is time consuming when you have hundreds of cars to do so with, outsourcing to approved MS companies that are just as skilled but cheaper in the production end why not do it. It's a slap in the face to say that only T10 or PD can truly capture the realistic essence on a virtual frontier and other car gaming devs like them. I'm sure these outsourced groups have a model to work with and follow from T10 hence the consistency from model to model. I'd say any bugs in the engine with a car are the fault of T10 and not someone building a rendering, but it could be both as well. I have yet to see why a GT game or any other game is above this upcoming of the last FM game as far as looks go.

Not sure what you're going about here.

Not exactly. Photomode is very limited. You have to exploit just to manage and get an interior shot. So much effort modeling every tiny detail and individual stich, why not let us see it? There's also not much in the way of interactivity which I don't really care for but it's still a major difference.
I don't think Yamauchi and his team modeled everything from every car. My guess is that they only model the surface of the cars. ,Except cars with a engine you can see, without opening the car.

I never really feel like I actually own the car in the game (childish I know) because when driving I don't really feel like I'm in control (probably due to very limited camera views and lack of 360 degree look around).

(And no I'm not a Forza fanboy since I've never played Forza or owned an Xbox)

I 100% agree to this. I Feel you on that one. I always thought the same. :guilty:

Meh, it's a boring feature.
Why? I really like Autovista, because i don't have the opportunity to get so close to a Mclaren P1 for example. The mode also shows that Turn10 love cars and details more than other companys.

It's nice that they will have Forzavista in every car. As someone who spent maybe <30min using Autovista, I wish they had spent the time implementing night/weather changes instead. It was left out due to time constraints, and the one factor that turned me off from getting an XB1 just to play Forza.
