I'm 15 and have been drifting since gt3, but I skipped over gt4 'cause I didn't even know it existed, somehow. I got into drifting from some stuff on YouTube. I believe I stumbled upon a RC drift video, and eventually found my way to an Initial D tribute (done in gt3). Sadly, my skills while sideways have seriously taken a nosedive since my switch to a wheel.

I am 16 going on 17 and I like the GT5 community cause there is never really a competition. It's just people drifting for fun. <3

I would like to say this isnt about how you got into drifting just about the average drifter age. Its nice to know you watched initial D but its about how old you are now. Just sayin...

I think your lost...

Looking back, the most interesting about my gamer history is that at any point i simply hated all about drifting. Thankfully im not narrow minded.

Am drifting at 14 (soon to be 15) with a G27 wheel.

Thank goodness I got a G27 wheel, because from that I've learned that drifting with a wheel is a lot harder to do than with a controller.

Very conclisive poll with 125 votes. Its safe to say most drifters are mid teens to early 20's.

I have been drifting since I was 3 on GT3. Started when I clipped the wall and maintained a slide around a corner. Didn't take drifting seriously until about GT4 (2004). Explains why I have awesome drifting talent today :yuck: .

@1241Penguin: What do you mean it's easier to drift with a controller? It's easier to drift with a wheel because it's what you use in a real car. D1GP drifters in real life don't use a controller to drift their cars do they? :yuck:

Learning to drift with a wheel very well will take you up to a year.. Anyone who went from ds3 to wheel will back me up on this.

Depends on the frequency of how much you practice with the wheel, I got a wheel for GT5P and within about 6 months I had the basics down for drifting.

DOes the time pay off in superior skill? I wish to get a wheel eventually

If they found a sound way to utilize ds3 controllers as a control interface for real life vehicles, every single motorsports series worldwide would be dominated by 12 yr olds in suburban mid america...the only thing difficult about using your digits alone as opposed to your hands, wrists, shoulders, etc..., is having the restraint to operate smoothly and subtle so that it doesn't appear like your using a controller...seriously? Lock to lock w/ a flick of the thumb, and no ffb to get in the way, and that's harder? :yuck:

Totally depends if you have sufficient hours to practice with the wheel. I was lucky enough to have around 6 hours a week on GT5P with my DFGT.

Reflecting on that now and how I don't drift as much as I want I'm very happy regarding my skill level.

Im 24 and Im starting now on drifting. I've got the gt driving force wheel but like was said here it requires a lot of experience and i yet dont get it. Lol

Practice makes perfect I guess 👍
