"Donut" is just a type of burnout, just like a "stand still" is also a type... a kinda lame type for a competition but still :P

A burnout competition doesn't have to limited to one type, it's much more interesting to see the car move around in a crazy yet [some what] controlled fashion.

From Wiki:

Burnout:

A burnout (also known as a peel out or power brake) is the practice of keeping a vehicle stationary (or close to) and spinning its wheels, causing the tires to heat up and smoke due to friction.
Donut:

A doughnut or donut is a maneuver performed while driving a vehicle. Performing this maneuver entails rotating the rear or front of the vehicle around the opposite set of wheels in a continuous motion, creating (ideally) a circular skid-mark pattern of rubber on a roadway and possibly even cause the tires to emit smoke from friction.

2 different things. Again, what you guys call "burnouts" are actually "donuts".

Wiki... That's a definition made up by people of the interwebs and even so it's quite general. Even mentions "peel out" which is not stationary or even near stationary as the description goes on to say, in the context of that wiki article it is related to drag racing. There isn't a offical definition of the word when referring to it's tyre spinning use, so it is silly to argue about it.

Burnouts to Australians is burning rubber whether it be peel out, stand still, donut or any other form, a burnout competition (to Australians) is not just about sitting there on the spot (but you can do that if you wish), it is about smoke, style, skill, technique etc and not about "donuts". Just like drifting is not just power oversteer.

I can smell the rubber from here. Jesus, I think the burnouts should be an event, instead of the drivers getting in trouble.

all donuts are burnouts but not all burnouts are donuts...

Donuts go in circles, everything else is a burnout

Not sure about the rest of the world but in Australia we have regular off street burnout events. There's a lot of builders down here building cars with one purpose in mind, to fry tyres lol

Aussie burnouts are called donuts in America lol. Pretty much everyone I know around my area agrees too.

Different places = different meanings. Generally if you're burning the tyres so they produce smoke it's a burnout, and if you're skidding in circles it's a doughnut (or doing circle-work).

Add me to that list, they don't know how to do just a burnout like us in america!

Let's not get started on that argument.

Doing circles while burning them is still a donut

I wonder if anyone posted the video of the Chevy Blazer burning out and keep going on the rim when the tire is totally gone.

Side note to the burnout record: over 35,000 horsepower at the rear wheels, or 500+ average per car.

Thanks for your addition to my thread..... It was greatly appreciated..........

You already flogged that horse back in July (in fact only a few posts above yours), do you not read the thread before posting these days? or did you simply want to point that out (again). Americans do things and call things differently to a lot of other cultures on here yet for the most part you don't see everyone pointing it out and turning it into a big discussion. Quite frankly your comment came across as arrogant and made to seem like Australians are stupid for "not calling it the right word, just because everyone in your circle agrees".

That Summernat vid is awesome 👍, Feel free to post up some of the burnouts from 2013!! They should be floating around youtube by now??

Probably

I don't know, when I'm not used to hearing something used in a way I'm used to hearing it, I have this feeling inside me that screams "NO THAT'S WRONG". Just one of those things.

I wonder if anyone noticed that "Chevy Blazer", is really a Dodge!:dunce:

As far as Aussie Burnouts? Honestly, they do it right.:D It's far more entraining to watch someone go (WOT{Wide Open Throttle}) until the tires blow(or the engine).

When drag racing they do a traditional burnout. But for fun and exhibition they burn 'em to oblivion 100% AWESOME.:)👍

All real car guys agree.:bowdown::bowdown::cheers:

I couldn't remember what the actual vehicle was I remember it being an old SUV that wasn't a Bronco.
