I'm surprised no one's posted a thread about this movie. Either that or I'm not searching correctly. Always been a fan of Edgar Wright's work and I'm curious to see how he does car chases...

Trailer:

...This is one of the movies that I've been eagerly waiting for. I just hope that this film doesn't get buried in the avalanche of Summer blockbusters and lose out in the box office. Now that'd tragic to no end...

I'll see anything with Jon Hamm in it, Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey is just an added bonus. Can't wait to see this.

Considering it a spoiler, but apparently they released the first 6 minutes of the opening scene. Can't stop watching it over and over.

Watch it yesterday and it was fantastic, especially the realistic stunts and some funny quotes in this movie is gonna be a cult classic imo. Also, the soundtrack is cool and definitely you won't get bored through the end. Somehow, this reminded me to those classic crime/getaway movies from the past.

...Finally, I got to watch this film back-to-back with Spiderman: Homecoming.

I think that was a mistake, because I found Baby Driver to be a noticeably inferior film of the two. On its own, I'd have thought it was an okay movie, but now, I think it's messy, unfocused and suffering from "style over substance" issue.

It definitely could have done wonders if the running time was shorter by 15 minutes or so. And although its soundtrack was touted heavily, I thought that, with the exception of handful sequences, the BGM ended up being actually rather distracting and weirdly enough, mismatched to what was happening on screen.

The currently-beleaguered Kevin Spacey looked utterly bored, or maybe was told to play the more detached, monotone version of Frank Underwood. I dunno. The actor playing the MC - can't even remember his name - was devoid of charisma. Jon Hamm looked like he was having fun, so there's that. Jamie Foxx, meanwhile, must've been given instructions to play a more psychotic version of himself.

And to me, the biggest issue was that the film didn't seem to know what it was supposed to be. It's not really a chase movie, it's not a heist movie, it's not a thriller, it's not a comedy, it's not a musical as some have argued, it's not a romance - so what was it trying to be? Being a jack of all trades means it's a master of none, and it kinda showed.

Colour me disappointed.

Interesting perspective. You're right, but I disagree that its ambiguity is a bad thing. The fact that it wasn't just another "chase movie", or "heist movie", or thriller, or comedy is exactly why I enjoyed it so much. That made it feel refreshing and different.

...I think I was expecting a little too much from the movie. Pre-release hype from the critics, as well as a few erudite GTP members seemed to suggest it would be a masterclass in filmmaking, so I was really looking forward to seeing this. You know what they say about getting all hyped up...
