Ballast Placement

Hi all Tried a search but didnt really find anything that suited, so...

When it comes to the positioning of ballast to correct inherant 'faults' in the handling characteristics of
the various drivetrain types of car in the game, are there some general rules that I should apply?

I haven't dabbled at all in this area of tuning yet because I'm clueless, so any help would be appreciated
