Since I did BMW last time, let's do an Italian. Alfa Romeo's lineups within the two sixth games:

  • 1963 Giulia Sprint Speciale (Standard in GT6, never in Forza)
  • 1965 Giulia Sprint GTA (Standard in GT6, fully modelled in FM6)
  • 1965 Giulia TZ2 (Premium in GT6, fully modelled in FM6)
  • 1966 Spider 1600 Duetto (Standard in GT6, much newer 1986 version fully modelled in FM6)

Two of the shared cars are Standards in GT6, while all but four of its much-larger exclusive list are in the same boat.

Personally, the only two I really miss from GT's list are the touring car and the Mito. The TZ3's just an Italian-skinned Viper, and the Brera's fat. I do have a soft-spot for the 147 too, after doing a one-make race with it years upon years ago with F1 2002 PC mods.

The Sprint Speciale is fantastic too, and I'm happy I've seen one in real life. But it gets short-changed being a Standard.

(Oh yeah, the Sheet has been updated)

For me it dosent matter how much cars they have. I am more conserned about how fun the game is, even if none of them are to realistic.

I tend to find some favorite cars and then use those for a long time. I simply would never have time to try all those diferent cars anyway.

I think for example Project cars has much better and more fun cars, than GT and Forza ever had, even the number of cars in it is much lower than both GT and Forza.

Its only a shame there are so many other problems with Project cars, that the game overall cant hold it self up againt Forza.

For me GT is kinda dead. 5 & 6 is more or less the same game. Tons of cars even if I played the rest of my life I would never have time to drive them all, and like 80 % of them are sorta uninteresting anyway. And its just not a fun game for me to play, compared to Forza or Project cars.

I would much rather if one of these company's could get their act together and produce a top game with say 100 diferent cars, that had good realistic physics and sounds, good muliplayer options, good carrer mode, and time trials for each induvidual cars, Livery editor, Market place like old forzas, that will get people to get involved with eachother and create community's and so on.

Unfortunatly we havent seen such a game yet, and its quetionable if we ever will. Since it seems to me most of the companys are focusing at other features that are more or less complete irelevant at least to me and going away from for example marketplace like forza has done is a big mistake.

Umm.... Pretty sure Forza has most of the cars in PCARS. It's basically missing Ginetta, Lykan and the fantasy cars.

Although FM6 is missing RUF because reasons.

Yeah I worded it wrong.

They may have many of the same cars. but the physics in Project cars is better, so its more fun to drive them in that game :-)

Have they sorted the camber problems in project cars yet? I stopped playing it when this was discovered, along with all the other bugs this was the last straw.

Yeah, technically the car list in FM6 is excellent, but I find that cars aren't very exciting to drive, at the most a car gets a couple of laps from me and then is shelved forever. In something like GT I can find myself doing a lap after lap in some ****box and having lots of fun with it trying to shave some time here and there. Idk, the driving in Forza is just not well executed, even something like the Nurburgring while accurate isn't demanding or threatening imo, just another track.

Do you perhaps upgrade the cars in roughly the same way? I've found that you can definitely lose the character of the car by doing that, and making them very easy and similar to drive

I drive stock cars only. I find that all cars drive roughly the same whereas in GT every ****box drives uniquely. I just don't find it enjoyable anymore. Even if I get excited for every DLC addition, the actual experience of driving them falls short.

Ok. Well, it was worth asking just in case 👍

Weird, since I feel the opposite about the games. I used to get more of a unique feel from GT, but the last few times I played GT6, the only major differences I noticed were in the drivetrains. Most modern FR cars felt the same to me, for example, and MR's felt largely similar unless they had a massive weight difference. Don't get me started on front drive cars in GT6, either...

Of course, it probably helps FM6 that I'm doing so many direct comparisons by taking all of the stock vehicles around Lime Rock for the other thread.

In Forza I take all cars to nordshleife and the most notable difference is acceleration and maximum speed, the handling mostly feels the same, and some cars definitely handle way better than they should (limo). Seriously can't feel any major difference between say a miata and a limo.

Then that's probably on you, not on the game.
Maybe I'm getting old. I remember when getting a clean lap was a challenge, but these days it's too easy for me. Anyways, onto the topic, can't wait to see what they have in store for december.

There's no way the cars feel the same. The Clio Williams doesn't drive like the Golf VR6 and the Focus RS 2nd Gen doesn't drive like either of them. That's a sample of the FWD cars I've done more than one lap in for my reviews. It also includes the Astra Top Gear edition and the Alfa 155. The former is more like the Golf, whereas the FWD-based 155 Q4 feels looser on its suspension, but the 4WD gives it greater grip.

That's not getting old it's getting more skilfull:sly:

* - Denotes Standard Car

Of the shared models, only the Esprit is a Premium in GT6.

The GT-exclusive list looks huge, but it's mostly Esprit and Elise variants, and most are Standards at that. The two Race Mods from GT5 help bump the list up, too.

Personally, the Europas are a draw, as is the 2011 base Elise. I don't miss Senna's F1 car too much, if only because there are three F1 cars from different decades in FM6. Oh, and I'd love a game to give us a fully-modelled Esprit Sport 350, any day now!

FM6's exclusive list is less than half the size of GT6's. You get three F1 cars though (60's, 70's, and 2015), a newer Elan versus the older, Standard model in GT6, and Lotus' ancient lightweight Eleven. Instead of the base Evora, you get the S. There's an Exige too (though I'd like them to re-introduce the second-gen Exige, before it got elongated and moved up a class size-wise). I suppose the 2-Eleven pretty much occupies that car's spot now, but it's not a looker, at all (unlike the new 3-Eleven).

This is a much closer comparison IMO. I could understand the draw of GT6 exclusives, so long as one is fine with the Standards. I can also understand the appeal of the wider net cast by FM6's (60 years of Lotii).

I do like this comparison deal that you're doing Slip, so allow me to do Chevrolet.

*Denotes Standard Car
** Denotes Standard and Premium versions

A few notes.

-Of the shared cars, 3 are premiums, with only one of those not having a standard counterpart.
-Of the not shared cars, the amounts are practically even. Of course, this is not including the various duplicates or special versions (special paint jobs, race mods, Vision cars) If they were included, the GT6 list would be probably close to twice the size.
-Of the exclusive GT6 cars, half are premium and half are standard.
-Approximately 2/3 of the list consists of cars pre-2000, which translates to the exclusive FM6 list. However, the exclusive GT6 list is closer to only half of the cars being pre-2000.
-FM6 has F1/Indycars while GT6 has NASCAR stock cars.

I wonder how PD plans to compete with Turn10 on sheer numbers, other than by including standard cars again, which would be laughable on ps4, FM6 currently has more more cars than GT6 has premiums, and now that we know that GT Sport will have a smaller selection of cars/tracks compared to numbered titles I wonder about it's value for money. FM5 was torn to pieces by media and fans for limited amount of content, but it was understandably a launch title pressed for time. Now that we have something as huge as FM6 that is still getting cars and possibly tracks, I wonder if it will affect people's reactions to GTS.

I'm basing everything on offline. Online players may be well taken care of. I'd like to know reactions from offline players, when GTS deops.

Y'know, I've never really looked at it like that, but it sums it up rather succinctly. GT4 was a marvel at the time because it covered so many new vehicles, but looking back, they seem like such anachronisms. Do we really need a 2003 Honda Element? A Citroen C3 1.6, or the Xsara VTR (not even the VTS)? Sure, FM has a few wacky additions as well, but the whole lineup is so well-balanced, it seems like less of an issue.

Which game(FM6/GT6) do you prefer in terms of overall breadth for the car list ?

I'm more fond of GT's list myself.

Which game(FM6/GT6) do you prefer in terms of overall breadth for the car list ?

FM6's, without a doubt. GT has a handful of things I miss – SuperGT cars mostly, some more LMP900-style prototypes, and a handful of interesting vintage cars – but playing GT6, I miss far more from FM6. Especially when I take into account that a lot of the cars that are shared between the games get a lame-duck PS2 version in GT.

There are more pre-war cars in FM6. More GT3-class cars. More 60's F1. More 70's F1. More Group 5. More IMSA racers. More modern touring cars. These all happen to appeal to me. :)

Or, to put it another way: I have an urge to own and drive almost everything in FM6, outside of race car livery duplicates. In GT6, there's a vast swath of cars I honestly wouldn't really notice if they disappeared from the game.

For example:
  • NA MX-5/Miata/Roadster: 19 variations (plus 2 Premiums).
  • NB Miata: 12 variations.
  • NA1 NSX: 11 variations (plus 1 Premium).
  • R34 Skyline road car: 10 variations (plus 1 Premium).
  • Honda S2000: 16 variations (plus 1 Premium).
  • Honda Civic EG SiR: 4 variations – what happened to the ’94, by the way?
  • FD RX-7: 20 variations (plus 2 Premiums).
  • Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT: 20 variations.
That's 8 specific generations of Japanese cars, 112 of which are Standard, and 7 are premiums. That's almost 10% of the entire GT6 lineup.

I've finally updated the GDocs file with Porsche, as well as the Huracan Super Trofeo (even if it's technically not available yet). That puts FM6 at 538 right now, and if there's at least two more car packs coming, that means 550 is reachable.

The idea of a 600 car FM7 doesn't seem so far-fetched now...

OP Update: I've updated the FM/GT file to include the latest DLC. I've also added the link to the Console Game Comparison Sheet that was used for a recent front page article. While both sheets feature seven games each, the FM/GT one has over 150 more cars on it!
