Well if your checking this thread out you may be somewhat of a hockey fan, and therefore may have seen/heard about the whole Todd Bertuzzi Incident. Yes he fractured/broke Steve Moore neck, and has a history of being a rough player. Personally I like him as a player, what are you opinions on the play:.................

Cheap???
or
Just playing aggressive???

Seems like a lot of interest in this topic *Sarcasim*

Well a little up-date to this thread, Bertuzzi has been handed his consequence: Suspended for the rest of the entire season (playoffs included)

Is it too harsh??

In my opinion Yes....had steve moore not broken his neck and sustained no injury, Burtuzzi may have been handed only a 2 game suspension.

Bertuzzi is a real hockey player. Any time you drop your stick, charge a guy from behind, throw your fist into his head and smash his face into the ice, you deserve to be applauded.

Real men play hockey. Bertuzzi is a real man.

I just wish more players would cause serious injury to other players.

How is that too harsh? You're saying he punched a guy in the back of the head and broke his neck. He should be in jail, not just sitting out a couple hockey games.

I didn't catch the whole thing but from what I saw it didn't look so bad, I didn't realize the other guy got his neck broken. Cheap or aggressive, things do happen. I guess I have to disagree with fighting (partly because I'm not the fighting kind size or personality wise). Yes, checking is part of hockey but to me it is the pretty flowing plays that make the highlight real. To be honest with you I think I just still down in the dumps about the Sharks... I didn't believe in them all season and then they lost Sturm. I think my team is done and it's to late to say I believe in them now... :(

Yep, his neck is broken. I don't know how serious the break is, but broken necks are never good.
Unless you like wheelchairs for the rest of your life.

I can't believe that I havn't saw the punch yet. I am usually on top of all things hockey. Perhaps the clip is available for download on the net somewhere. If not I am sure I will see it on 'Coachs Corner' on Saturday with Don Cherry.

Punch a guy in the back of the head and break his neck and see what happens while walking down the street. I bet you sit for a lot more than 12 days. More like 12 years in prison.

If you play any professional sport you're liable if you get hurt. At least that's how it should be.

Bertuzzi didn't intentionally break his neck, so I don't think this is a legal issue. He should still be fined and suspended for the rest of the season at the least.

There is an assumption for injury with any pro sport. Players understand that and it is a risk they willingly take. But no-one in their right mind expects and/or would be comfortable with broken necks.

Intentional or not he blindsided a guy and broke his neck. I don't see how this shouldn't be a legal issue.

I think it could be a legal issue when you bring these players pasts up and how their past influence how they play the game. That goes for all sports.

If they were to just fight it out like real men on the ice, someone may have gotten a bloody nose, they would have went to the box for 5 minutes each, and nothing else would have become of it. Even if burtuzzi had gone and done the exact thing he did, but moore DIDN'T break his neck, he would have gotten maybe a 2 game suspension at most. But since he broke his neck that all of a sudden becomes a great deal more. I mean I feel for the guy and all whos sitting in the hospital not able to move. But does injury determine the length of suspension?? I can highstick someone (illegal in the game) and not get suspended, or I could give a clean hard check and lets say break his jaw, and there would probably be an inquest into the play.
Either way it's a tough call for the NHL

I think he was doing what he was suppose to do, seek revenge for what he did on his captain. But the outcome was not what was planned. I think it's a season only suspension, but I think the NHL ruled season + playoffs + until Moore get's well in the next season.. Isn't it something like that?

Well hes gone for:
-rest of regular season
-all of playoffs
-plus, before training camp starts for the next season, IF there is another season he has to talk to Bettman and decide if and when he gets to play again.

I recently saw this on the news and I have to say I was quite shocked. I know you get a few fights in hockey but in my opinion Todd Bertuzzi was out of order. It was a cheap shot from behind and then he landed on top of the other guy which I think is what caused the broken neck. If it had been a one on one fight then it would have been fair. I think the law should definetly be brought in on this one.

I just recently read Moore's injuries aren't as severe as they were said, I recall reading the paper saying he'll be skating in 3 weeks.

See thats a good point........Now that we learn his injuries aren't as severe does that mean Bertuzzi's Consequece should also be not as severe....??

i think Bertuzzi should be commended for laying down a deathblow on the guy.

not everybody is capable of doing that...
