I am a seasoned FF driver, and i have found that the '78 Mitsubishi Mirage is a pretty neato handler when it's set up rite.

OMG, I cant believe someone actually enjoys this car as much as I do. It was my frist recommendation. 👍

And yes, the Mugen Civic Race Car is fun as crap to drive!

I tried doing a search on the forums for this topic but didn't have much success. What do you guys think is the best handling FF car? Not the fastest FF car, but the one that handles the best. For instance, if every FF car had the same power-to-weight ratio - or were equally fast in straight line performance, which car would turn a corner the fastest.

I think you are confusing handling with roadholding. In terms of being easy to drive at its limit, I'd say the Mini Cooper. Not the S version - I haven't tried that one yet - but the NA one. I tuned its engine a bit to compete in the Mini series and it handled the power increases with no drama.

Speaking of Minis, The Mini Marcos may be a surprise FF car. It's got the requisite lack of weight. It's another one I haven't tried though. There's something about that label... FF... that makes cars invisible, so I haven't driven any of them unless I had to, with the exception of the Ford Focus RS, which I had pumped up to 410BHP to answer a question about 500BHP FF cars on this forum, and then took it on track for a laugh. I realised that even with 410 ponies it was still FF and I just wasn't laughing, so I went and did something interesting like wash the dishes.

also, agree with u about the Volvo S60 T5 - that really has some grip!

Wow... other people notice that about the Mirage, too? I've got to try it. Haven't driven one, but they're hella fast if you drive against them in the Mirage cup. The Cyborg R just suck when trying to put the power down. :(

I find Mini Cooper's handling extraordinarily good. It's very neutral, yet sharp and responsive. I prefer it to the Civic Type-R, which is too understeery for my liking. Though I might just remember wrong, haven't played the game for a while :D

But seriously, the Mini is worth a try.

The Nissan Primera in the used car lot (early 90s) is the best handling FF car i have driven.. Now im a big Honda fan, so for me to be saying it, it must be good.lol. Its NA tuned ( turbao makes it get sassy with the tyres) and has custom suspension. Thats pretty much it, and you have yourself a great very compitent car.

Yeah s the new Euro is a schweet drive

EDIT: If anyons interested, theres a euro sedan comparison, which puts head to head some of the more popular mid size front drive sedans. The link is in my sig as [Euro Sedan Comparo].

yeah the mugen civic is oh so much fun, i have a 89 std. hatchback and its oh so slow.....but its still really fun even with only 4 gears. haha but i can still chirp 2nd with a dying engine. my civic was converted from dual point fuel injection into multi point though so it has a little more power, but still its pretty bad :nervous:
so far the best thing that has happened in it though was the time my throttle cable got stuck and my idle was at 4k and it did not go down either lol, i made enough smoke to cover the entire block, people did not look too happy but i was laughing :sly: later that day my rear passenger side drum siezed up while i was turning lol.

It's too bad they don't have a tool like a skidpad in Gran Turismo which would be a lot of help in finding this out. I'm guessing right now it might be the DC2 ITR that's the fastest but I'm not sure. I also guessing IMO the RX-7 FD is the best handling FR car and that the EVO MR is the best 4WD. What do you guys think?

The best handling FF car in GT4 is the Seat Ibiza Cupra. Hands down.

The CRX SiR ('91 I think) is by far my favorite FF. I'll throw on a computer chip and switch the rims to a set off an NSX and I'm all set. Brake somewhat hard while turning and the back end rotates nicely, hit the gas and understeer comes on smoothly. Depending on which pedal you push, the car reacts great.

^^^ the REX is heaps consistent, i was doing laps within 0.1 of eachother on grandvalley. Very smooth, very stable.

There's a Historic Nissan Silvia that handles excellently. I'd be hard-pressed to tell it was a FF car. In general, I've never liked GT's FF cars. Seems to me that they all understeer (such as the Mini Marcos), but maybe that's because I don't know how to set them up properly. However the Nissan Silvia works right with the default settings.

I posted "the best ff car" at gamefaqs a few months back letting everyone know to their astonishment that the tests I carried out on all ff normal cars produced a winner of no great surprise as it was a Honda Accord USA Version which you can purchase brand new stock.
I am not going to brag while eating my toast, this car handles even at 1400+ kilo's. I had an unforgettable drive on the Noboogering, taking corners like I was in a 4WD.

Well first off, it should be obvious that many of the FF race cars are going to be the best handling.
The Lupo Cup Car and Xsara are just a couple that come to mind (although there are many more).

With that said, I think the best handling normal FF cars are (in no particular order)...
Civic R '01 (without body rigidity refresher)
Civic R EK (any year)
Integra R DC2 (any year)
Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 24v (I bet it could take the accord :mischievous: )
Mini Cooper S
Vitz RS Turbo

However, despite being commonly understood as a hard to handle, snap-oversteer, FF tuner, I love the TRD Celica Sports M. 👍
That's my favorite but favorites have nothing to do with the actual handling of the car.
But hey, atleast I'm willing to admit that and still not list my fanboy car amongst the other cars. :sly:

Peugeot 106 v16/Rallye. 'Cuz nothing beats Peugeot in small, nimle hatches.

No, really. Try taking it to a technical course. Say, Trial Mountain. I've been there today with this car. Ever expirienced those huge amounts of FF understeer? Not on this car. This one is neutral and balanced, even under power. It even oversteers sometimes, especially when doing a swedish something.

Actually, that's both fan-boy'ish, and true. Try it.

But the Mini is a good one, too. The Alfa Romeos (Most of 'em), and the Peugeot 406 Coupe work well, too.

I thought the silvia was FR?

I don't know if this qualifies as stock but what I do with my FF cars is adjust the front/rear balance 10-15 clicks to the rear because all the weight is in the front of the car.

For the last coupe of days I've been playing with a 1990 CRX SiR, and I can't believe how fun it actually is. I've bought racing tires, S1, for it, and fully adjustable suspension (adjustable coilovers in real world, that is). In addition, it's now got a straight pipe muffler with an air intake and a tune (chip). I think I'm making around 170 bhp, and the chassis copes easily. Four seconds after a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII GSR is not bad on Grand Valley East Reverse, huh, despite it's being a relativly fast track.

I must say the 1995 Honda Integra Type R DC2 also scores high on my list of favourite FF cars. It's nimble, agile and fast, with an exiting soundtrack. My car is bone stock, I like it that way. Use hard earned cash on a Stage One Turbo Kit, and the magic is lost. Yep, I feel 190 bhp is maximum for the DC2 chassis.

Volkswagen Golf I GTI is a hoot to drive, my car being Turbocharged with a Stage One Kit as well. Lots of grip, with S1 tires and adjustable coilovers. It works best around a technical and tight, but fast track like the Nürburgring, in my opinion, but anyhow you do it, it's confident. Nimble, keen and supremely well rewarding, that's the original GTI in a nutshell.

In addition you've got the Golf V GTI, which follows up where the first car left. Best kept original I feel, in Tornadorot, it's one sweet drive. I bought it as one of the first cars after getting GT4, and it has impressed me ever since. Possibly becomes slightly boring after a short while, however.

The Honda Civic Type R EP1 is a slight dissapointment, but still handles creamy for being a FF. Some understeer, and slightly narrow powerband I feel, but still, it's good for a front wheel drive car.

That's probably my best FF cars. And yes, the SiR is that good!

Nice work there buddy. 👍
I've found that with a little tuning, many of the small old FFs run rather well. Very controlled and smooth. My favorite amongst the group would have to be the SiR Civic (something like '92  ). "This is a link to a picture of the civic mentioned.

I'm sure I've been in this thread before but...
Now that I'm thinking about the little Civic, I've got to say that the best handling FF is going to be the most well tuned FF.
Regarding stock... I'm saying the Alfa GT 3.2
That stands out as a great car because of the total package.
If I'm not mistaken with approximate numbers: 1320kg, 230hp w/ oil
Some how it manages to deliver the power really well and it almost seems to me like torque.

Any way... Later.

The Alfa Romeo GT. But it has to be in dark red. Otherwise it's just another crap FF. Kidding.....but seriously. The Alfa GT dominates.

@Kent: Thats an EG civic hatch :)

And i have most of my cars tuned 24-1 for the brake distributor thing, i like my tail sliding ;)

Would it be possible for us to see the results of these tests?

What were the criteria and how were the cars judged.

I ask because I personally do think its a surprise that the Honda Accord won, not that its a bad car, but in many many ways I can think of a massive list of FF cars that in my opinion are far better cars.

Personally I have always rated the Integra Type R (DC2 for the bumpy tracks and DC5 for the smoother tracks) as one of the single best front drivers ever.

For me the Accord is too big and heavy to be as truly nimble as a great FWD car needs to be to make up for the drive-train limitations, so I look forward to the detail behind your tests.

Scaff
